1. Heroes Tracer Works Well With

In this section, we will look at the Heroes that work particularly well with Tracer.

1.1. Tassadar

Tassadar Portrait

Tracer has several inherent weaknesses, including a low Health pool, low self-sustain, and poor waveclear. Tassadar is able to increase Tracer's Health pool with Plasma Shield Icon Plasma Shield, half of which lasts until destroyed with Khala's Embrace Icon Khala's Embrace. Similarly, he can assist her with sustain by taking Leeching Plasma Icon Leeching Plasma at Level 4, allowing her to heal when delivering Basic Attacks while shielded. Tassadar's excellent waveclear via Psionic Storm Icon Psionic Storm will help Tracer's team keep lanes soaked and pushed out, in spite of her poor clear efficiency.

1.2. The Lost Vikings

The Lost Vikings Portrait

PvE is arguably Tracer's most severe weakness. The Lost Vikings' unrivaled potential to soak experience exempts Tracer from this responsibility, allowing her to focus solely on leveraging her core strengths. With The Vikings soaking all lanes, forcing enemy Heroes out of experience range (by killing them or forcing them back) can quickly lead to a Level advantage.

1.3. Brightwing

Many Supports can have difficulty keeping up with Tracer, due to her extreme mobility. Brightwing can get to Tracer easily with Phase Shift Icon Phase Shift or Blink Heal Icon Blink Heal when necessary. If Brightwing needs to Blink Heal to help a different ally in a team fight, Tracer can Blink Icon Blink into range to assist in a takedown. Soothing Mist Icon Soothing Mist's AoE healing does not require targeting, which can be difficult to do at times when Tracer is darting around. Polymorph Icon Polymorph can temporarily remove a threat to Tracer during team fights, long enough for her apply a full Ability rotation and get away. Pixie Dust Icon Pixie Dust grants 20% movement speed, which can help Tracer to close in on an enemy while conserving Blink charges.

2. Heroes Tracer Is Countered By

In this section, we will look at the heroes that counter Tracer particularly well.

2.1. Brightwing

Brightwing Portrait

Brightwing's Polymorph Icon Polymorph is a ranged point-and-click crowd-control that can be reliably applied to Tracer. Polymorph prevents Tracer from using her movement enhancing Abilities for 2 seconds, leaving an easy low Health target for any nearby enemies to follow-up on. In addition to this crippling Ability, Brightwing passively heals nearby allies, mitigating much of Tracer's harassment.

2.1.1. How To Play Against Brightwing

During the early game, try to focus on either killing Brightwing, or ganking lanes she is not in. Phase Shift Icon Phase Shift will allow her to rotate to try to counter you. If she does, rotate to a different lane unless there is still kill potential after her arrival. Keep track of Polymorph Icon Polymorph's cooldown so that you know when it is safe to go into its range. Aside from Polymorph, Brightwing has few ways to deal with Tracer directly. This leaves her vulnerable to a direct assault. Brightwing's options at this point are to use Phase Shift Icon Phase Shift or Blink Heal Icon Blink Heal to reposition to an allied hero. Brightwing will also be near her allies to heal them with Soothing Mist Icon Soothing Mist, and to position herself safely away from Tracer. This makes Sticky Bomb Icon Sticky Bomb a good option against Brightwing, as the increased explosion radius will be very useful when Pulse Bomb Icon Pulse Bomb is applied to her. Brightwing will either damage and slow her enemies by staying in range of their support, or repositioning to them to get away from you. If she leaves the support range of her team to avoid hurting them, you can pursue the takedown. A small bonus for Tracer is that high attack speed is very good at countering Block charges, so Pixie Dust Icon Pixie Dust will offer very little protection against your focused targets.

2.2. Abathur

Abathur Portrait

Tracer should be roaming between lanes quite often, so Abathur's Toxic Nest Icon Toxic Nests pose a unique problem for her. Tracer has no tools for locating them once they are Cloaked, and her low Health pool means that these mines damage her for a large portion of her maximum Health. This can make it extremely difficult to rotate effectively, setting Tracer at a notable disadvantage. While Toxic Nests are the main problem for Tracer, Abathur also counters her in other ways. When Tracer commits to a kill, Abathur can help his ally by casting Symbiote Icon Symbiote and Carapace Icon Carapace on them. Tracer does well against isolated and out of position enemy Heroes; but, a good Abathur will be there for his team with Symbiote Icon Symbiote or Ultimate Evolution Icon Ultimate Evolution no matter where they are. Meanwhile, Locust Strain Icon Locust Strain will passively apply map pressure that Tracer is ill equipped to deal with.

2.2.1. How To Play Against Abathur

Roam with a Warrior leading the way, when possible, so that they run into any Toxic Nest Icon Toxic Nests for you. Make sure to take the same pathing that the Warrior does, so that you do not run into any mines they fail to trigger. You can wait to select a target to Assassinate until Symbiote Icon Symbiote is already with a different enemy Hero. Symbiote has a 4 second cooldown, so you will have plenty of time to deliver your Pulse Bomb Icon Pulse Bomb and Melee Icon Melee combo before Abathur is able to respond. While Locust Strain Icon Locust Strain will create lane pressure that is hard to deal with on Tracer, it also gives clues to Abathur's location. Abathur usually positions himself under his team's Structures, because they protect him from most would be Assassins while his Locusts push forward. Try to trace the Locusts to their point of origin. Tracer can dive the Turrets to kill Abathur, and escape with Recall.

2.3. Sgt. Hammer

Sgt. Hammer Portrait

Sgt. Hammer's massive Basic Attack range in Siege Mode Icon Siege Mode forces Tracer to use all Blink charges in order to get into Melee range. If Tracer does this, Sgt. Hammer can use Concussive Blast Icon Concussive Blast to push Tracer away, leaving her without Blink charges. At this point Tracer can walk around in Siege Mode's radius, or put Recall on cooldown to get out. Sgt. Hammer has a large Health pool that makes her hard to takedown, and Thrusters Icon Thrusters to escape if she is threatened. She can place Spider Mines Icon Spider Mines in Bushes and Vents as an early warning for Tracer's ganks. Napalm Strike Icon Napalm Strike can be used every 6 seconds, and Concussive Blast can be timed to push Tracer into the impact.

2.3.1. How To Play Against Sgt. Hammer

While Siege Mode Icon Siege Mode counters Tracer to some extent, it leaves Sgt. Hammer extremely vulnerable to many other Heroes in the game. It may be frustrating to wait for your team to force her out of Siege Mode, but the best way to play against her is to practice patience. Tracer can sometimes feel like a lone wolf Hero because she can outmaneuver her teammates; however, you should always coordinate with your team. This is especially true against Heroes that pose a threat to your ability to impact the game, like Sgt. Hammer. Outside of team fights you should gank lanes as normal, paying special attention to Sgt. Hammer. She will often push the lane, and try to siege your Structures. During team fights you should stay out of Siege Mode's range, unless your team commits to a hard-engage. While you wait for this opportunity, look for enemy Heroes to attack who are outside of Sgt. Hammer's area of influence. You can quickly clear Spider Mines Icon Spider Mines with Tracer's high attack speed by issuing an attack-move command toward them.
