1. Heroes Zagara Works Well With

1.1. E.T.C.

E.T.C. Portrait E.T.C. is a powerful tank able to provide Zagara with a strong frontline presence. Powerslide Icon Powerslide and Face Melt Icon Face Melt can be used to peel away aggressive enemies attempting to dive her. Guitar Solo Icon Guitar Solo will allow E.T.C. to trade in the midst of skirmishes for much longer while Zagara pressures other areas of the Battleground. Mosh Pit Icon Mosh Pit has incredibly synergy with Devouring Maw Icon Devouring Maw should it be chosen at Level 10. E.T.C. is able to cast Mosh Pit right after Devouring Maw expires to create a powerful AoE zone of crowd control potentially stunning enemies for an upwards of 8 seconds.

1.2. Diablo

Diablo Portrait Diablo works wonderfully with Zagara for pretty much all the same reasons as E.T.C. Shadow Charge Icon Shadow Charge and Overpower Icon Overpower can be used to protect Zagara or keep enemies from escaping her damage. Apocalypse Icon Apocalypse, much like Mosh Pit Icon Mosh Pit, can be synced up with Devouring Maw Icon Devouring Maw for a devastating combo. However unlike Mosh Pit, as long as it is timed appropriately, Apocalypse cannot miss its target or be interrupted. It is important to try and lead with Devouring Maw and follow up with Apocalypse. This will help ensure opponents are affected by both of the abilities full durations.

1.3. Malfurion

Malfurion Portrait Malfurion is a fantastic support to Zagara, providing her assistance in several ways. First of all, Malfurion can offer a dependable supply of Health to Zagara through Regrowth Icon Regrowth. If she finds herself in more dire situations, Malfurion's Tranquility Icon Tranquility will help to keep her from being taken down. Zagara's is not unfamiliar with Mana issues, particularly in the early game, as she is forced to rotate through her Basic Abilities to maintain pressure on a lane or poke enemy Heroes. Innervate Icon Innervate will help to alleviate some of the Mana issues she has to normally deal with. Entangling Roots Icon Entangling Roots is great for not only peeling of enemies during teamfights and skirmishes, but will also set up perfect opportunities for Zagara to land Devouring Maw Icon Devouring Maw.

1.4. Brightwing

Brightwing Portrait Brightwing's Phase Shift Icon Phase Shift complements Zagara beautifully, primarily because she will most often be spending her time split away from her allies to pressure lanes and soak their experience. Should Zagara run into trouble, Brightwing is able to assist her almost instantly. Soothing Mist Icon Soothing Mist and Blink Heal Icon Blink Heal will keep Zagara nice and healthy when taking damage during trades or skirmishes. Brightwing's strongest Basic Ability, Polymorph Icon Polymorph, is invaluable to Heroes like Zagara who have no reliably means to escape an enemy attempting to dive them. Pixie Dust Icon Pixie Dust is an excellent source of damage mitigation, and Emerald Wind Icon Emerald Wind can be used to save Zagara from otherwise life threatening situations.

2. Heroes Zagara Is Countered By

2.1. Chen

Chen Portrait Chen is incredibly annoying for Zagara to deal with, particularly during the early game when Heroes will often find themselves in lane. Every one of Chen's Basic Abilities are quite effective against Zagara, especially Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew. Fortifying Brew not only allows Chen to completely negate all of the damage from Hunter Killer Icon Hunter Killer and Basic Attacks, but also provides him with seemingly endless sustain. Chen's indefinite lane presence combined with the waveclear provided by Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash and Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire can easily shut down Zagara's push-centric gameplay. The 5-second cooldown of both Keg Smash and Bearth of Fire will allow Chen to destroy Creep Tumors placed by Zagara almost as fast as she creates them. Chen is also able to easily isolate Zagara from her allies in the mid to late game using Flying Kick Icon Flying Kick and Wandering Keg Icon Wandering Keg. Once isolated, Zagara can be easily picked off because of her lack of gap closers or escape.

2.1.1. How To Play Against Chen

One of the biggest pitfalls to avoid when facing off against Chen in lane is trying to poke him down like Zagara would normally do against most other Heroes. More often than not Zagara will lose trades with Chen, as he will strike quickly with a combo of Flying Kick Icon Flying Kick, Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash, and Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire then immediate soak any of Zagara's damage with Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew. Zagara should focus her Basic Abilities on the enemy Minions themselves, and then attempt to sneak placements of Creep Tumor Icon Creep Tumor in spots outside of the lane in common pathways. In the late game, Zagara should try to keep safe behind her frontline when grouped and never overextend too far when an enemy is missing from direct view or last seen headed in her direction.

2.2. Kerrigan

Kerrigan Portrait Kerrigan is an incredibly lethal melee assassin that can easily take down Zagara in seconds. When caught alone by Kerrigan's Primal Grasp Icon Primal Grasp/Impaling Blades Icon Impaling Blades combo, Zagara is left incredibly vulnerable as she has no means of reliable escape. Even with good defensive positioning, Kerrigan will often times still be able to jump on Zagara using Ravage Icon Ravage and then activate her deadly combination of crowd control. Once confronted, Zagara will have a difficult time using her damage to shake off Kerrigan due to the large shield she will generated via Assimilation Icon Assimilation.

2.2.1. How To Play Against Kerrigan

Kerrigan is weakest once she has exhausted her devastating crowd control combo of Primal Grasp Icon Primal Grasp and Impaling Blades Icon Impaling Blades. This is why Zagara should always remain cautious and try to keep her distance until they are both on cooldown. Should Kerrigan engage with Ravage Icon Ravage, Zagara's first priority should be to attempt to dodge her crowd control by traveling perpendicular to the direction that Primal Grasp has been cast. After having evaded her combo, Zagara can then begin to kite her while casting her Basic Abilities like normal. When alone, especially in lane, make sure to keep up with placing Creep Tumor Icon Creep Tumor to provide vision for Kerrigan should she roam. In the late game, keep an eye on the Mini-map when overextending to apply pressure. Once Kerrigan has disappeared from view consider heading to a safer position as she will most likely be moving in Zagara's direction.

2.3. Nova

Nova Portrait Nova's ability to cloak herself with Permanent Cloak, Sniper Icon Permanent Cloak, Sniper makes her quite deadly against Zagara. The cloak effect effectively negates the vision bonus and safety net Creep Tumor Icon Creep Tumor provides Zagara when she is isolated from her team to push lanes and soak experience. Once Zagara is caught out, Nova will do a significant amount of damage to her and then will be able to easily kill her in a duel. Even when unveiled, Nova can use Pinning Shot Icon Pinning Shot to keep Zagara from immediately fleeing. Once the game begins, Nova will most often spend the entire match attempting to shut down Zagara, as she will be an easy target to kill. The global range of Precision Strike Icon Precision Strike allows Nova to clear Zagara's allied Minions as they are pushing which can definitely hurt Zagara's split-pushing effectiveness.

2.3.1. How To Play Against Nova

The key to dealing with Nova is attempting to track her location in the Battleground at all times. Convey to Zagara's allies the importance of being made known where Nova appears on the Map and when. If a while has gone by without any sign of her, try to play safer as she will most likely be heading towards Zagara. This is most likely the case if Zagara is overextending beyond enemy lines. Although Nova will be able to deal most of Zagara's Health in damage in one rotation of her Basic Abilities, she will not be able to kill her outright unless she lands either Precision Strike Icon Precision Strike or Triple Tap Icon Triple Tap. Try to avoid these abilities by either dodging them or taking cover behind healthier allies. Be extremely cautious late into the match (post level 20) as many players will talent into Rewind Icon Rewind. This talent gives Nova the ability to quickly kill Zagara without the need to wait for her Basic Abilities' cooldowns. When possible, try to keep a sharp eye out for the shimmer effect of Nova's cloak. Once revealed, Zagara should target Nova with Hunter Killer Icon Hunter Killer as the consistent damage will prevent her from re-cloaking until the spawn is killed.
