Brawler's Guild: Dungeon Master Vishas (Rank 1) (MoP 5.4)

Dungeon Master Vishas is the fourth Brawler's Guild Rank 1 opponent. The fight against him is all about rooting him for a few seconds to prevent him from hitting you with a very damaging ability. Before we delve further into the explanations, we advise you to first watch this very short video, which shows how the fight with Vishas goes.

1. Abilities and Strategy↑top

Dungeon Master Vishas has two abilities.

  • Naughty Secrets Icon Naughty Secrets deals a bit of Shadow Damage and leaves a debuff on you that increases the Shadow damage you take by 150%. This debuff stacks, but Naughty Secrets is not cast often enough for this debuff to really matter.
  • Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers causes Vishas' melee attacks to deal a lot of additional Fire damage for a few seconds. A few strikes of these buffed melee attacks are enough to kill you.

Your only concern in this fight is to make sure that Vishas' melee attacks do not hit you while he is buffed with Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers. To prevent this from happening, you can interrupt the cast of Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers. You can also root, fear, incapacitate, or snare Vishash and get away from him.

2. Generic Advice↑top

  • Do not panic. It does not matter if you mess up your rotation, but you need to stick to the strategy.
  • If you are in for a long Brawler's Guild session, you may want to use a flask.
  • Prepot! Use a Potion of Brawler's Might Icon Potion of Brawler's Might, a Potion of Brawler's Cunning Icon Potion of Brawler's Cunning, or a Potion of Brawler's Deftness Icon Potion of Brawler's Deftness right before Dungeon Master Vishas appears, depending on what your main statistic is.
  • When the 60-second cooldown on your potion is over, you can use the same potion again or you can use a Brawler's Healing Potion Icon Brawler's Healing Potion if you need healing.
  • Group up with other players so that you benefit from each other's buffs.

4. Death Knight↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Death Knight, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

Orladel said: Killed as a DK. You can absorb the fire damage with your Anti-Magic Shell Icon Anti-Magic Shell, generating more and more Runic Power. In case you're not sure, simply slow / root (depends if you have Chilblains Icon Chilblains from your talents) during his buff. Oh, and it's not dispellable with glyphed Icy Touch Icon Icy Touch (it is NOT a magic buff). Hope it may help.

NightShade said: As Unholy Death Knight, get diseases on and kite around, cast Icy Touch Icon Icy Touch to build Runic Power and then hit with Death Coil Icon Death Coil. Drop Death and Decay Icon Death and Decay whenever available. I do have the Chilblains Icon Chilblains talent so Vishas was slowed a bit. Use Outbreak Icon Outbreak to refresh diseases when they drop and use Dark Transformation Icon Dark Transformation when available. I did this at about 450 ilvl and, though it was close, it was actually easier than with my warrior as I did not have to stay close.

5. Druid↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Druid, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

Pawfullycute said: As Feral its really easy to kill him. Once he uses Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers you have to make sure you have enough combo points to Maim Icon Maim him. If you don't, either use Bear Hug Icon Bear Hug or simply run from him until that buff is gone. I opened up by pouncing on him and popping all my cooldowns.

Auyssaelre said: Vishas was pretty easy if you ask me as a feral. As soon as he cast Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers I put Faerie Swarm Icon Faerie Swarm and ran around the room using Savage Roar Icon Savage Roar until the skill expired. For me I don't think roots would've been necessary for Ferals because the Faerie Swarm Icon Faerie Swarm is a slow mechanic. Besides that, hes basically a pew pew pew fest.

6. Hunter↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Hunter, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

Dullenge said: I play hunter. I have finished all the rank one fights. They were easy enough, however I did notice that my pet never drew enough aggro from any of the opponents. The nicest part of patch 5.1 is that Steady Shot Icon Steady Shot now can be used when moving to regain focus. Don't be afraid to move out of the way of special abilities even if you are regaining focus.

7. Mage↑top

To deal with Dungeon Master Vishas, we advise you to make use of the following Mage-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • If you play Fire, you may want to use Scorch Icon Scorch as your Tier 1 talent. You will be able to use it while moving and it can proc Heating Up Icon Heating Up or transform it into Pyroblast! Icon Pyroblast!.
  • Use Ice Barrier Icon Ice Barrier as your Tier 2 talents and always keep it up. Remember that Ice Barrier has a 1-minute duration, but only a 25-second cooldown. So, try to cast it before being teleported into the arena. This way, the cooldown will be over by the time Ice Barrier drops from the damage you take, and you will be able to recast it immediately.
  • Use Frostjaw Icon Frostjaw as your Tier 3 talent. You will be able to use it, in conjunction with Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova (and Freeze Icon Freeze from your Water Elemental, if you play Frost), to keep Dungeon Master Vishas rooted, allowing you to get away and heal yourself with Evocation Icon Evocation.
  • Use Cauterize Icon Cauterize as your Tier 4 talent. This will save your life on many occasions. As soon as it procs, use Ice Block Icon Ice Block to remove the DoT effect it leaves on you. If you are using Glyph of Ice Block Icon Glyph of Ice Block, removing Ice Block will cast an instant free Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova and render you immune to spells for 3 seconds, which can be extremely useful.
  • For your Tier 5 talent, prefer Nether Tempest Icon Nether Tempest or Living Bomb Icon Living Bomb. Given that you have to move a lot, their instant cast time will be very beneficial. Since you do not need to keep Dungeon Master Vishas away from you, the movement-reducing effect of Frost Bomb Icon Frost Bomb is not really needed.
  • Use Invocation Icon Invocation as your Tier 6 talent, in conjunction with Glyph of Evocation Icon Glyph of Evocation. This will enable you to heal yourself for 40% of your life, on a 10-second cooldown.
  • In addition to Glyph of Evocation Icon Glyph of Evocation, which is nigh-mandatory, and Glyph of Ice Block Icon Glyph of Ice Block, which we have already mentioned, you may find the glyphs listed below useful.
    • If you play Arcane, then Glyph of Arcane Power Icon Glyph of Arcane Power can be very useful for your initial burn phase (in conjunction with your trinkets procs/uses and your potion).
    • If you play Fire, then Glyph of Combustion Icon Glyph of Combustion can be very useful for your initial burn phase (in conjunction with your trinkets procs/uses and your potion).
    • Glyph of Frost Nova Icon Glyph of Frost Nova reduces the cooldown of Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova, which can be very beneficial if you often find yourself in need of healing and need to root your opponent to cast Evocation Icon Evocation.
    • If you play Arcane, then Glyph of Slow Icon Glyph of Slow will cause the boss to be almost always slowed, giving you previous seconds to cast Evocation Icon Evocation or damage your opponent without getting hit.
    • If you play Frost, then Glyph of Water Elemental Icon Glyph of Water Elemental will be very beneficial because it will allow your Water Elemental to cast while moving.

To prevent Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers from killing you, you can interrupt the cast or you can use Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova to root Vishas for the duration of Heated Pokers.

8. Monk↑top

Sorry, but we currently have no Monk specific information. We will do our best to update this section in a timely manner, but if you have done this fight, we would be delighted to hear about your strategy in the thread dedicated to Dungeon Master Vishas in our forum (you can post without having to register first). Thank you!

9. Paladin↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Paladin, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

antbanks51 said: Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe Rebuke Icon Rebuke works as an interrupt for a Pally. I tried this guy a few times before bed real quick last night and in no case did it work for me.

Tanek said for Retribution Paladins: I recommend a build of 211223. Most of the talent options can be interchanged but this is my preferred method and makes good use of the burst that Rets have available. Remember that with a 2 minute enrage timer the T14 4 set bonus will not help, so if you have other pieces that have better itemization, use them instead. The 2 set bonus is still beneficial if you have it. Keep Rebuke Icon Rebuke handy on your toolbar to interrupt Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers and make judicious use of Fist of Justice Icon Fist of Justice. To burst I build up three HP and then use the following macro:

  • #showtooltip Avenging Wrath
  • /cast Inquistion
  • /cast Avenging Wrath
  • /cast Guardian of Ancient Kings
  • /use Potion of Brawlers Might
  • /use 10
  • /use 14

This macro starts your Inquisition (provided you built up 3 HP), pops your major CDs, uses the Brawlers guild potion of choice, uses your glove enhancement if you are an engineer and uses any on use trinket in the bottom trinket slot.

As is the case with most fights in the brawlers guild you will be attacking the boss from the front a majority of the time which means being hit capped and expertise capped (up to the hard cap) is the best way to improve DPS.

Agatha said: Rebuke Icon Rebuke isn't stopping him from casting Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers, so I have my Hammer of Justice Icon Hammer of Justice only.

10. Priest↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Priest, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

MoacaBogdan said: Just killed him as Shadow priest. As soon as he aggros, pop your trinkets, prepot, and just burn him down, since he is quite weak. As soon as he starts casting Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers, cast Silence Icon Silence, then carry on burning him down.

At the second Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers, I cast one Mind Spike Icon Mind Spike to clear my DoTs, then Psychic Scream Icon Psychic Scream. Just to be sure, I had specced into Body and Soul Icon Body and Soul, and ran to the other side of the arena.

Easy kill afterwards.

11. Rogue↑top

To deal with Dungeon Master Vishas, we advise you to make use of the following Rogue-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

To prevent Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers from killing you, you can interrupt the cast. If you miss an interrupt, you can use Sprint Icon Sprint to get away or Cloak of Shadows Icon Cloak of Shadows to resist the Fire damage.

We do not advise to use Subtlety for the Brawler's Guild, as you will not be able to use Backstab Icon Backstab, your main damaging ability.

12. Shaman↑top

To deal with Dungeon Master Vishas, we advise you to make use of the following Shaman-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • When using your cooldowns (abilities, trinkets, consumables, etc.), you need to make sure that you do not use Bloodlust Icon Bloodlust/Heroism Icon Heroism and Elemental Mastery Icon Elemental Mastery at the same time. Use Elemental Mastery after Bloodust/Heroism runs out.
  • Use Astral Shift Icon Astral Shift as your Tier 1 talent. It will enable you to sometimes reduce the damage you take. Enhancement Shamans can also use Shamanistic Rage Icon Shamanistic Rage for the same purpose.
  • If you play Elemental, you should use Frozen Power Icon Frozen Power as your Tier 2 talent. This way, you will be able to more easily keep Dungeon Master Vishas at bay.
  • Totemic Projection Icon Totemic Projection, as your Tier 3 talent, will enable you to easily relocate your totems as you move around.
  • Use Elemental Mastery Icon Elemental Mastery as your Tier 4 talent. Cast it at the beginning of the fight to increase your initial burst damage.
  • Use Ancestral Guidance Icon Ancestral Guidance as your Tier 5 talent. Cast it whenever you are in need of healing.
  • Use Primal Elementalist Icon Primal Elementalist as your Tier 6 talent to further increase your initial damage burst.
  • If you play Elemental, you may find the glyphs below to be useful.
  • If you play Enhancement, you may find the glyphs below to be useful.
  • Glyph of Capacitor Totem Icon Glyph of Capacitor Totem can be useful for stunning Dungeon Master Vishas more easily with Capacitor Totem Icon Capacitor Totem.

Make sure that you prevent Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers from killing you. To do so, you need to interrupt every cast of it. If you fail to interrupt a cast, you can slow Vishas with Frost Shock Icon Frost Shock and run away.

As an Elemental Shaman, perform your normal Elemental rotation. To heal yourself, cast Healing Stream Totem Icon Healing Stream Totem, Ancestral Guidance Icon Ancestral Guidance, or Healing Surge Icon Healing Surge.

As an Enhancement Shaman, perform your Enhancement Shaman rotation. If you want to heal yourself, cast Healing Stream Totem Icon Healing Stream Totem or Ancestral Guidance Icon Ancestral Guidance, spend your stacks of Maelstrom Weapon Icon Maelstrom Weapon on Healing Surge Icon Healing Surge or call forth your Feral Spirit Icon Feral Spirit wolves.

13. Warlock↑top

To deal with Dungeon Master Vishas, we advise you to make use of the following Warlock-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • For self-healing and survival purposes, you should use Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech as your Tier 2 talent and Glyph of Siphon Life Icon Glyph of Siphon Life. Soul Leech will cause your main spells to give you large shields for a fraction of the damage they deal, while Glyph of Siphon Life will cause Corruption Icon Corruption (Affliction/Demonology) or Immolate Icon Immolate (Destruction) to heal you for a percentage of the damage it deals.
  • Use Mortal Coil Icon Mortal Coil as your Tier 2 talent. Every 45 seconds, you can use it so heal yourself for 15% of your maximum health and to fear your opponent for 3 seconds.
  • Dark Bargain Icon Dark Bargain is an extremely useful ability and your best option for your Tier 4 talent. Always try to use it at the end of the fight, if you need a few extra seconds to kill your opponent. Note that when Dark Bargain runs out, you will often die from the damage that it has prevented you from taking.
  • Use Grimoire of Supremacy Icon Grimoire of Supremacy as your Tier 5 talent. This way, you can use your Voidlord to make the fight trivial.
  • Kil'jaeden's Cunning Icon Kil'jaeden's Cunning will prove invaluable as a Tier 6 talent, as it allows you to use all your spells while moving.
  • In addition to Glyph of Siphon Life Icon Glyph of Siphon Life, which is mandatory, you may find the glyphs listed below useful.
    • Glyph of Healthstone Icon Glyph of Healthstone increases the healing from your Healthstone, but this increased healing is done over 10 seconds. You should try to use your improved Healthstone when you have taken about 30% of your health as damage. This will help you make the fight last longer, giving you more time to kill your opponent.

To easily defeat Vishas, use your Voidlord. It will tank the first Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers for you, although it will most likely die. For the second Heated Pokers, you can revive your pet or use Mortal Coil Icon Mortal Coil. You should normally be able to kill Vishas before the third Heated Pokers, but in any case, you can always use Dark Bargain Icon Dark Bargain.

14. Warrior↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Warrior, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

NightShade said: Arms Warrior, knock him around till you see the cast for Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers. One hit with that and instant death will happen. I interrupted the other spell cast as at 45% DR I would rather deal with a melee hit. When Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers is cast RUN!!! if you have Bladestorm Icon Bladestorm pop it and keep moving, as long as the boss is within 8 yards it will hit so you can stay out of range of taking damage but still deal it. Whirlwind Icon Whirlwind will work as well, but damage is less compared to Bladestorm Icon Bladestorm. I talented Stormbolt and, even though I don't remember this boss being stunnable, the damage is not bad and it is ranged. Use everything ranged that you can and BTW, I could NOT interrupt the cast of Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers but the cast of Naughty Secrets Icon Naughty Secrets was interruptible.

ironaxeman said: As a warrior, I pulled this guy into a corner straight away, as soon as he started casting Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers, I ran and kited until his buff had gone. I then popped Recklessness Icon Recklessness and Bladestorm Icon Bladestorm. Ignoring the other spell he casts, I just dps'ed him down. By the time he cast Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers again he was almost dead, so I stayed on him for the kill.

Jesse said: As a fury warrior, I kept the following CC abilities on my action bars for easy access:

Each time he uses Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers, use CC to keep him away from you. ou can also use Heroic Leap Icon Heroic Leap to quickly get away from him. Finally, if you are Worgen, using Darkflight Icon Darkflight can allow you to outrun him if everything else is on cooldown.

Wheeler said: This fight is quite high-threat for us warriors, as we don't have as much self healing as almost every other class, however it is also very easy at the same time, provided you know what to interrupt, when to kite, or when to stun/fear.

The main threat in this fight that you absolutely must do what you can to counter is his Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers ability, which causes him to deal a LOT of extra fire damage with every melee hit he lands, however it's un-interruptable, so is the biggest threat.

He can, however, be stunned by Shockwave Icon Shockwave when he has the effect on him, and Die by the Sword Icon Die by the Sword can be used to counter it so you don't have to go running away.

Just note, however, that the Shockwave Icon Shockwave stun is not as long as the Heated Pokers Icon Heated Pokers buff, so use the stun duration as an opportunity to apply Hamstring Icon Hamstring to him, and run away until Heated Pokers expires.

The other ability he uses, which is not as high threat if your health is above 350k and you have the Second Wind Icon Second Wind, is Naughty Secrets Icon Naughty Secrets - This can be interrupted and reflected at him so focus on doing that, but as I said, unless the fight goes on for a while and your stacks get insanely high (As whenever he casts it, it increases shadow damage taken), it shouldn't be too much of a threat.
