Brawler's Guild: Ixx (Rank 3) (MoP 5.4)

Ixx is your third Brawler's Guild Rank 3 opponent. The fight against him is reminiscent of your first fight against Bruce. The main difference is that Ixx's special attack is a lot more difficult to avoid than Bruce's Chomp Chomp Chomp Icon Chomp Chomp Chomp and his melee attacks are a lot stronger. Before we delve further into the explanations, we advise you to first watch this very short video, which shows how the fight with Ixx goes.

1. Abilities and Strategy↑top

Ixx has only one ability called Devastating Thrust Icon Devastating Thrust. It targets a large area in front of Ixx and getting hit by it will kill you.

Ixx also has a powerful melee attack that deals approximately 40k damage on Cloth wearers.

The strategy to defeat Ixx is simple. The difficulty of the fight comes from the extreme damage done by Devastating Thrust Icon Devastating Thrust and the very short cast time of this ability (1.5 seconds). To deal with Devastating Thrust, melee players and casters who can cast while moving should keep running around Ixx, close to him, while attacking him. This will greatly simplify the fight.

Casters that cannot sustain their rotation while moving will have to always stand in the middle of Ixx's hitbox (i.e., stand right under him). This way, they will just need to walk through him a bit to avoid the ability.

Note that Ixx spawns with only a fraction of his life (although this fraction is still significant: 2.7M HP). This will enable you to make use of your execute abilities.

2. Generic Advice↑top

  • Do not panic. It does not matter if you mess up your rotation, but you need to stick to the strategy.
  • If you are in for a long Brawler's Guild session, you may want to use a flask.
  • Prepot! Use a Potion of Brawler's Might Icon Potion of Brawler's Might, a Potion of Brawler's Cunning Icon Potion of Brawler's Cunning, or a Potion of Brawler's Deftness Icon Potion of Brawler's Deftness right before Ixx appears, depending on what your main statistic is.
  • When the 60-second cooldown on your potion is over, you can use the same potion again or you can use a Brawler's Healing Potion Icon Brawler's Healing Potion if you need healing.
  • Group up with other players so that you benefit from each other's buffs.

4. Death Knight↑top

To deal with Ixx, we advise you to make use of the following Death Knight-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • Use Lichborne Icon Lichborne as your tier 2 talent, since it is the only talent in this tier that will provide you some actual usage during the fight against Ixx. Simply treat Lichborne as a self-healing cooldown, which can be used to extend your survival in the arena by a few seconds.
  • Use Death Pact Icon Death Pact as your tier 4 talent, because the fight against Ixx is short enough that you can make full use of the heal; your ghoul will still be alive when you need the healing from Death Pact.
  • The fight against Ixx is made considerably easier if you use the full combination of offensive cooldowns at the start.

To defeat Ixx, simply use all your offensive cooldowns at the start of the fight and DPS the boss while standing still. There is no damage that you can mitigate through Anti-Magic Shell Icon Anti-Magic Shell in this fight. You can use Icebound Fortitude Icon Icebound Fortitude to reduce the damage you take from melee attacks.

5. Druid↑top

Sorry, but we currently have no Druid specific information. We will do our best to update this section in a timely manner, but if you have done this fight, we would be delighted to hear about your strategy in the thread dedicated to Ixx in our forum (you can post without having to register first). Thank you!

6. Hunter↑top

To deal with Ixx, we advise you to make use of the following Hunter-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • As a tier 3 talent, we recommend Exhilaration Icon Exhilaration in this fight, since its burst and on-demand heal is excellent for the nature of the fight against Ixx.
  • Tier 4, 5, and 6 talents should be the same as for any normal PvE raiding set-up.
  • Remember to make use of your extensive arsenal of offensive cooldowns during the fight. We detail these in the respective PvE guides (Beast Mastery / Marksmanship / Survival), and these guidelines hold true for the fight against Ixx.
  • Your range of defensive cooldowns is extremely limited, with only Deterrence Icon Deterrence and Feign Death Icon Feign Death playing a relevant role. Note that if you Feign Death and your pet is not alive, the fight will stop and you will be teleported out of the arena.

To defeat Ixx as a Hunter, simply use all your offensive cooldowns and burn him down as fast as you can. Do not attempt to Disengage Icon Disengage away from Devastating Thrust Icon Devastating Thrust, since you will most likely not be able to out-range it. Avoid it in the ways that we recommend at the start of the guide.

7. Mage↑top

To deal with Ixx, we advise you to make use of the following Mage-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • If you play Fire, you may want to use Scorch Icon Scorch as your Tier 1 talent. You will be able to use it while moving and it can proc Heating Up Icon Heating Up or transform it into Pyroblast! Icon Pyroblast!.
  • Use Ice Barrier Icon Ice Barrier as your Tier 2 talents and always keep it up. Remember that Ice Barrier has a 1-minute duration, but only a 25-second cooldown. So, try to cast it before being teleported into the arena. This way, the cooldown will be over by the time Ice Barrier drops from the damage you take, and you will be able to recast it immediately.
  • Use Cauterize Icon Cauterize as your Tier 4 talent. This will save your life on many occasions. As soon as it procs, use Ice Block Icon Ice Block to remove the DoT effect it leaves on you. If you are using Glyph of Ice Block Icon Glyph of Ice Block, removing Ice Block will cast an instant free Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova and render you immune to spells for 3 seconds, which can be extremely useful.
  • For your Tier 5 talent, prefer Nether Tempest Icon Nether Tempest or Living Bomb Icon Living Bomb. Given that you have to move a lot, their instant cast time will be very beneficial. Since you do not need to keep Ixx away from you, the movement-reducing effect of Frost Bomb Icon Frost Bomb is not really needed.
  • Use Invocation Icon Invocation as your Tier 6 talent, in conjunction with Glyph of Evocation Icon Glyph of Evocation. This will enable you to heal yourself for 40% of your life, on a 10-second cooldown.
  • In addition to Glyph of Evocation Icon Glyph of Evocation, which is nigh-mandatory, and Glyph of Ice Block Icon Glyph of Ice Block, which we have already mentioned, you may find the glyphs listed below useful.
    • If you play Arcane, then Glyph of Arcane Power Icon Glyph of Arcane Power can be very useful for your initial burn phase (in conjunction with your trinkets procs/uses and your potion).
    • If you play Fire, then Glyph of Combustion Icon Glyph of Combustion can be very useful for your initial burn phase (in conjunction with your trinkets procs/uses and your potion).
    • Glyph of Frost Nova Icon Glyph of Frost Nova reduces the cooldown of Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova, which can be very beneficial if you often find yourself in need of healing and need to root your opponent to cast Evocation Icon Evocation.
    • If you play Arcane, then Glyph of Slow Icon Glyph of Slow will cause the boss to be almost always slowed, giving you previous seconds to cast Evocation Icon Evocation or damage your opponent without getting hit.
    • If you play Frost, then Glyph of Water Elemental Icon Glyph of Water Elemental will be very beneficial because it will allow your Water Elemental to cast while moving.

To defeat Ixx, start by using all your offensive cooldowns (with the exception of Alter Time Icon Alter Time and Mirror Image Icon Mirror Image). Immediately after the first Devastating Thrust Icon Devastating Thrust, use Alter Time (it will regenerate your life after a few seconds). After the second Devastating Thrust, use Mirror Image Icon Mirror Image. To stay alive for the remainder of the fight, you will need to always refresh your Ice Barrier Icon Ice Barrier. You can also use Evocation Icon Evocation while Ixx is finishing a cast of Devastating Thrust. Finally, you can count on Cauterize Icon Cauterize (followed by Ice Block Icon Ice Block to remove the DoT).

8. Monk↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Monk, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

Diadon said: Do NOT rely on Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo or Roll Icon Roll to get you out of that nasty one hit move, as sometimes you die even if you're behind him on your own screen. Has happened to me multiple times, even though I appear to be behind him by quite a bit, I still get hit, and I'm playing with a latency of 60ms.

9. Paladin↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Paladin, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

Tanek said for Retribution Paladins: I recommend a build of 213223. Most of the talent options can be interchanged but this is my preferred method and makes good use of the burst that Rets have available. Remember that with a 2 minute enrage timer the T14 4 set bonus will not help, so if you have other pieces that have better itemization use them instead. The 2 set bonus is still beneficial if you have it.

As is the case with most fights in the brawlers guild you will be attacking the boss from the front a majority of the time which means being hit capped and expertise capped (up to the hard cap) is the best way to improve DPS.

Use Sacred Shield Icon Sacred Shield before the boss spawns to get the shield rolling and also make sure to use Hammer of the Righteous Icon Hammer of the Righteous to keep up the Weakened Blows Icon Weakened Blows effect. I like Glyph of Divine Protection Icon Glyph of Divine Protection and Glyph of Templar's Verdict Icon Glyph of Templar's Verdict for the damage mitigation and Glyph of Avenging Wrath Icon Glyph of Avenging Wrath for the heal. I do not pre-pot on this fight as he should be dead before a minute anyhow and it is more efficient to pot at the same time that you use Avenging Wrath Icon Avenging Wrath and Guardian of Ancient Kings Icon Guardian of Ancient Kings.

10. Priest↑top

Some of our readers shared their experience of the fight, as a Priest, in our forums, and we decided to reproduce their contribution(s) here.

MoacaBogdan said for Shadow Priests: Saw a lot of people die while on this fight, trying to outrange or sidestep the cone attack. Pretty much 1-shotted the fight, staying right in the middle of his hitbox, and stepping in as soon as he starts the cast. Used the standard Shadow Priest rotation for him, no tricks necessary.

11. Rogue↑top

To deal with Ixx, we advise you to make use of the following Rogue-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

As a Rogue, you should use Combat Readiness Icon Combat Readiness, Evasion Icon Evasion, and Evasion Icon Evasion again (after resetting its cooldown with Preparation Icon Preparation) to survive Ixx's attacks. If your gear is good enough, you may be able to rely solely on Leeching Poison Icon Leeching Poison and Recuperate Icon Recuperate to survive.

We do not advise to use Subtlety for the Brawler's Guild, as you will not be able to use Backstab Icon Backstab, your main damaging ability.

12. Shaman↑top

To deal with Ixx, we advise you to make use of the following Shaman-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

As an Elemental Shaman, perform your normal Elemental rotation. The difficult part of the fight is to stay alive, so simply use Ancestral Guidance Icon Ancestral Guidance when you get low on health. Then, rely on Healing Surge Icon Healing Surge.

As an Enhancement Shaman, perform your Enhancement Shaman rotation. If you want to heal yourself, spend your stacks of Maelstrom Weapon Icon Maelstrom Weapon on Healing Surge Icon Healing Surge or call forth your Feral Spirit Icon Feral Spirit wolves.

13. Warlock↑top

To deal with Ixx, we advise you to make use of the following Warlock-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • For self-healing and survival purposes, you should use Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech as your Tier 2 talent and Glyph of Siphon Life Icon Glyph of Siphon Life. Soul Leech will cause your main spells to give you large shields for a fraction of the damage they deal, while Glyph of Siphon Life will cause Corruption Icon Corruption (Affliction/Demonology) or Immolate Icon Immolate (Destruction) to heal you for a percentage of the damage it deals.
  • Use Mortal Coil Icon Mortal Coil as your Tier 2 talent. Every 45 seconds, you can use it so heal yourself for 15% of your maximum health and to fear your opponent for 3 seconds.
  • Dark Bargain Icon Dark Bargain is an extremely useful ability and your best option for your Tier 4 talent. Always try to use it at the end of the fight, if you need a few extra seconds to kill your opponent. Note that when Dark Bargain runs out, you will often die from the damage that it has prevented you from taking.
  • Use Grimoire of Supremacy Icon Grimoire of Supremacy as your Tier 5 talent. This way, you can use your Voidlord to make the fight trivial.
  • Kil'jaeden's Cunning Icon Kil'jaeden's Cunning will prove invaluable as a Tier 6 talent, as it allows you to use all your spells while moving.
  • In addition to Glyph of Siphon Life Icon Glyph of Siphon Life, which is mandatory, you may find the glyphs listed below useful.
    • Glyph of Healthstone Icon Glyph of Healthstone increases the healing from your Healthstone, but this increased healing is done over 10 seconds. You should try to use your improved Healthstone when you have taken about 30% of your health as damage. This will help you make the fight last longer, giving you more time to kill your opponent.

Your Voidlord will be able to tank Ixx for the most part of the fight. Devastating Thrust Icon Devastating Thrust deals AoE damage, so your Voidlord is immune to this ability. It will probably die from Ixx's melee attacks, so you should revive it. It may die again, but you should be able to easily survive on your own until the end of the fight. If necessary, you can use Dark Bargain Icon Dark Bargain to give yourself an extra 8 seconds.
