General Information

On this page, we explain what the best statistics are for Unholy Death Knights in World of Warcraft Legion 7.1, how the class benefits from each of them.

The statistics priority is important as it influences itemisation choices (gear, enchants, and gems).

The other pages of our Unholy Death Knight guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

1. Basics

The stat priority for Unholy Death Knights depends on whether you choose Clawing Shadows Icon Clawing Shadows or Castigator Icon Castigator as your tier 3 talent.

1.1. Clawing Shadows

  1. Strength;
  2. Haste;
  3. Mastery;
  4. Critical Strike;
  5. Versatility.

1.2. Castigator

  1. Strength;
  2. Critical Strike;
  3. Haste (until 18-19%);
  4. Mastery;
  5. Versatility.

These statistics have been obtained by combining common sense, in-game testing, and simulations using Simulation Craft.

2. Getting a Better Understanding

2.1. Statistics Priority

Strength is your primary statistic. You should look for it in all of your upgrades. It provides you with Attack Power, which determines the damage your abilities do.

Mastery, through Mastery: Dreadblade Icon Mastery: Dreadblade, increases your Shadow damage. Shadow damage makes up a great part of your total damage.

Haste will increase your attack speed and Rune regeneration rate.

Critical Strike increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities.

Versatility increases all your damage and healing done, and decreases all damage taken.
