General Information

On this page, we explain what the best statistics are for Unholy Death Knights in World of Warcraft Legion 7.1.5, how the class benefits from each of them.

The statistics priority is important as it influences itemisation choices (gear, enchants, and gems).

The other pages of our Unholy Death Knight guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

About Our Reviewer

This guide has been reviewed and approved by Magnuss, a top Unholy Death Knight who raids in Occasional Excellence.

1. Basics

There are currently two different viable stat priorities as an Unholy Death Knight. We believe the Mastery-favouring priority to be the better one, but we provide both here.

1.1. Mastery

  1. Strength;
  2. Mastery;
  3. Haste (until ~20%);
  4. Critical Strike OR Versatility (depending on your gear levels, recommended to sim your character).

The Mastery build, if you choose to go for it, should be used in conjunction with those talents that we mention perform well with high levels of Mastery (Bursting Sores Icon Bursting Sores, Clawing Shadows Icon Clawing Shadows, Necrosis Icon Necrosis, Dark Arbiter Icon Dark Arbiter).

1.2. Critical Strike

  1. Strength;
  2. Critical Strike (at least until 25%);
  3. Haste (ideally over 20%);
  4. Mastery;
  5. Versatility.

These statistics have been obtained by combining common sense, in-game testing, and simulations using Simulation Craft.

2. Getting a Better Understanding

2.1. Statistics Priority

Strength is your primary statistic. You should look for it in all of your upgrades. It provides you with Attack Power, which determines the damage your abilities do.

Mastery, through Mastery: Dreadblade Icon Mastery: Dreadblade, increases your Shadow damage. Shadow damage makes up a great part of your total damage.

Haste will increase your attack speed and Rune regeneration rate.

Critical Strike increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities.

Versatility increases all your damage and healing done, and decreases all damage taken.
