Gear sets have officially been added in Alpha Two Phase Three of Ashes of Creation, and there will likely be many, many changes (and additions) to these gear sets up until the official launch of the game. These gear sets introduce new, alternative ways to build your characters that allow additional benefits to be added by having certain combinations of equipment.
These gear set bonuses can be added up through a variety of different ways, such as having multiple pieces of gear from the same set equipped at the same time (such as Bloodrunner armor set, or Steelbloom jewelry set) or even having multiple pieces of armor from the same weight class (light, medium, or heavy).
Within this post, we’ll take a closer look at what some of these set bonuses are today, and where gear sets are headed in the future of Ashes of Creation.
Ashes of Creation Armor Weight Bonuses
Every piece of armor within Ashes of Creation is categorized by a specific weight class, such as Light, Medium, or Heavy. If a player equips multiple pieces of armor from the same weight class, they can gain some additional bonuses, including the following:
- Light Set (5 Pieces): Reduces the amount of magical damage taken by 11%.
- Medium Set (5 Pieces): Reduces all damage taken by 6.8%.
- Heavy Set (5 Pieces): Reduces the damage taken from physical hits by 11%.
The idea is that these percentages will actually increase as well with the overall quality of the gear you have equipped. For example, the numbers above represent a full set of Uncommon gear. If you happen to have a set of 5 pieces of rare heavy equipment, instead of an increase of 11% physical defense, it becomes 12%.
These numbers will likely change down the road, but as of now this is where weight class set bonuses are. As you can tell, light armor tends to be more desirable by players that may be moreso ranged-based DPS players (such as Mages or Bards), where heavy armor sets might be more worthwhile for classes such as Tanks that are up close to their foes (and likely taking more damage from melee attacks).
Along with these weight class bonuses, there are also additional set bonuses granted by armor pieces, categorized as Finesse, Force, and Fortitude. This bonus is actually a direct percentage increase of two specific attributes. These will also require a full set of 5 pieces, and provide the following bonuses:
- Finesse: Dexterity and Wisdom
- Force: Strength and Intelligence
- Fortitude: Constitution and Mentality

Additional Set Bonuses in Ashes of Creation
There are even more set bonuses that can be stacked in Ashes of Creation, which include specific named pieces of gear that tend to be farmed from the same point of interest (POI). For example, at the Citadel of the Steel Bloom, there is a full set of heavy gear known as the “Rosarium Set”.
Unlike the other types of set bonuses, you do not need to have a full set of 5 pieces to gain specific bonuses. Instead, you will gain additional bonuses by having a set of 2, 4, 7, or even 7 pieces of this set. Below is an example of what these bonuses are for this specific set:
- 2 Pieces: 97 Strength
- 4 Pieces: 121 Constitution
- 6 Pieces: 579 Physical Power
- 7 Pieces: 579 Physical Crit Evasion
As you can tell, combining these bonuses with the other set bonuses listed above provide a whole new level of build creativity to stack unique bonuses to make your build a bit more unique to your playstyle.
There are many, many sets in Ashes of Creation, and even more coming! Some of these even provide unique bonuses (such as procs and/or reflects) that change your gameplay even further! An example of this would be the Bloodrunner set, which can be farmed at the Tower of Carphin!
The Bloodrunner set bonuses are listed below:
- 2 Pieces: 111 Strength
- 3 Pieces: Siphon – Grants a 10% chance on hit to siphon your target, dealing 200% spirit damage and healing you for the same amount (60s cooldown).
- 4 Pieces: 138 Constitution
- 5 Pieces: Abundant Siphon – Cooldown reduced by 30 seconds.
- 6 Pieces: 662 Physical Power
- 7 Pieces: 662 Lifesteal
- 8 Pieces: Greater Siphon – When Siphon triggers, it also triggers a leech effect that transfers 25% spirit damage into health every second for 8 seconds.
As you can tell, each set truly is unique, not only in the number of pieces of that set you need to get bonuses, but the bonuses themselves too.
