Flying Mounts in Ashes of Creation

Regardless of if you’ve been following the development of Ashes of Creation or not, one thing that seems to be known across the board is that there are flying mounts within the game. Not only that, but that they’re pretty unique in not only how they look, but also how they’re acquired.

To get a closer look at these mounts, check out this recent X post by Ashes of Creation where they showcase a few of the different types of flying mounts that are currently within the Alpha test, and how they look while flying in the air.

How Do You Get a Flying Mount in Ashes of Creation?

As mentioned within the post above, the only way to currently get a flying mount in Ashes of Creation is by becoming a mayor of a Node. This is an ongoing controversial topic, as an extremely low percentage of players will be mayors within this game (less than 1%), meaning that it’s highly unlikely that the typical player would not only acquire a mount, but even see one.

This may change though as the word “currently” was used within this post, hinting that the overall availability for these mounts might expand as the game continues to develop and prepare for its official launch.

Some players want the overall access of flying mounts to expand, while others believe that keeping it exclusive to such a low amount of players makes their implementation with the game even more impactful. As Ashes of Creation continues to develop, I’m sure we’ll see many more changes when it comes to flying mounts.

The Benefits of Flying Mounts

When it comes to the overall benefits of flying mounts in Ashes of Creation, we can go on and on. Some of the more obvious ones are of course the ability to travel much, much faster when you fly compared to land mounts.

Within Ashes of Creation, there are not teleport shrines – requiring players to travel by foot (or mount) across the very large land of Verra. Due to this, the importance of your mount is critical on how quickly you can get to certain pieces of content within the game. In some cases, if you want to meet up with a group of friends that might be at a specific point of interest across the map, it could very well take you a good 20 minutes to even get there. If you have a flying mount – that could very well turn into 5 minutes or less.

Additionally, flying mounts provide the ability to scope out the battlefield in large-scale open world PvP. If a member of your team has a flying mount, they can easily fly into the air, and scope out where your enemies are, how many of them exist, and where the best place to attack them is. Just like in the real-world, knowledge is power in this game – and if you gain the information of your enemy’s location via a flying mount, you’ll be at an advantage on the battlefield.

Types of Flying Mounts in Ashes of Creation

Although there will be a limited number of flying mounts on each server, there is still a wide range of different types of flying mounts available within the game. This ranges from dragons to horses with wings to griffons and more. There are even rumors that a breeding system with eggs will eventually be implemented within Ashes of Creation, adding a unique spin to the Animal Husbandry system and likely leading to even more unique flying mounts that will be added to the game.
