Borderlands 4 brings a couple of new tricks to movement that make fights and exploration way smoother. Once you pick up the Hoverpack, you unlock two abilities the game barely mentions: Dash and Double Jump. Since the tutorial does not really explain them, here is a quick rundown of what they do and how to use them.
How to Unlock Dash and Double Jump
Both moves come online as soon as you get the Hoverpack. There is no pop-up or big explanation, so most players just stumble into them on their own. Once the Hoverpack is equipped, Dash and Double Jump are always available.
Dash
Dash is a quick burst of speed that lets you slip out of danger or reposition in the middle of a fight. On the ground, it’s perfect for strafing around enemies. In the air, you can dash in any direction – great for dodging projectiles or extending a glide.
When to use Dash
- Dodge attacks right before they land
- Escape AoE zones or big melee swings
- Get a better shooting angle without wasting time
Controls
Platform | Dash | Air Dash (Forward) |
---|---|---|
Playstation | Circle | X + Circle |
Xbox | B | A + B |
PC | Shift | Space + Shift |
Tips:
- Ground Dash only works sideways or backwards.
- Air Dash is more flexible – forward, backward, sideways, even downward.
- Combo Air Dash with gliding to cover a lot of ground fast.
Double Jump
Double Jump does exactly what it says: a second jump mid-air. It’s a simple mechanic, but it changes how you move around the map and gives you a safety net in combat.
When to use Double Jump
- Avoid ground-based attacks
- Reach rooftops, ledges, or hidden spots
- Chain into a Ground Slam for extra mobility and damage
Controls
Platform | Double Jump |
---|---|
Playstation | X (press twice) |
Xbox | A (press twice) |
PC | Space (press twice) |
Tips:
- Hitting the second jump right after the first gives you the most height.
- Holding onto it can save you from projectiles mid-fight.
- Good timing makes tricky platforming sections way easier.
Dash and Double Jump do not just make your Vault Hunter more mobile – they change how you approach fights and exploration. Once you get comfortable chaining them together, you will notice combat feels faster and the world opens up in new ways.
