Nintendo fans hoping to get their regular fix of looter-shooters will have to wait a while longer. The official Borderlands 4 Twitter/X account announced today the Switch 2 port is indefinitely delayed. The post comes in the wake of widespread complaints regarding technical issues during Borderlands 4’s launch period. The game is currently sitting at a “mixed” rating on Steam with 27K English language reviews.
In the post, the Borderlands account stated the main reason for the delay is to give the dev team more time to polish the port. The intent is to align the launch of the Switch 2 version with the addition of cross saves, a popularly requested feature. The account apologized to anyone anticipating the port, and said no further information on the release schedule is available at the moment. Digital pre-orders for the game will be automatically refunded on September 27th. Physical pre-order refunds will need to be handled by the appropriate retailer.
Despite the technical issues, Borderlands 4 has proven to be a hit, surpassing Borderlands 3’s player-count peak on Steam. Gearbox has been working to improve game performance, with a host of fixes patched on September 18th. Hopefully, when the Switch 2 version hits, the launch issues will be well and truly in the rearview mirror.
