Like previous Borderlands games, the fourth installment in the series once more features its own selection of Vaults for you to unearth. NUmerous rewards await the Vault Hunter who can uncover them all!
What are Vaults?
Vaults are dungeon-like challenge areas featuring many waves of enemies, and culminating in a face-to-face battle against a Primordial Guardian. Should you succeed in defeating the guardian, you will be rewarded with lots of shiny new loot, a special upgrade to your Glide-Pack, and even a chance at exclusive Legendaries.
The planet of Kairos hides three of these vaults in three separate regions, and in order to unlock each vault you will have to find the three Vault Key Fragments in their respective areas. With all three fragments in hand, you can assemble a key to direct you towards the location of the region’s vault.
In order to find these fragments, you will have to capture an associated Order Silo that will then provide you with an approximate location via the game’s ‘Trace’ system. Tracing a fragment involves you running around the designated area and following the in-game interface. The UI will light up based on how close you are to the fragment, and while the Trace system does help you close in on a location, the 3D environment makes it difficult to figure out precisely where you need to go.
Fret not, however, as we have guides ready for each region’s Vault Key Fragments:
- The Fadefields Fragment Locations
- Carcadia Burn Fragment Locations
- Terminus Range Fragment Locations
Once you have found all of the fragments in a region, one final Trace area will be revealed. This Trace will unveil the location of the Vault itself. Vaults come with a much larger radius to search than their respective fragments, making them all the more difficult to find. Thankfully this scavenger hunt for the vaults is more than worth the effort for all the treasures they behold.
Vault of Inceptus – The Fadefields
The Vault of Inceptus can be found at the top of a large in the Dissected Plateau in The Fadefields.

To reach the entrance of the Vault, Fast Travel to Zadra’s Backup Plan make your way out of the laboratory’s cave to find yourself at the base of a waterfall. From the waterfall you should be able to find multiple grapple points, allowing you to ascend to the high ground at the top. From this position you should be able to follow the path all the way to the location of the vault. With key in hand, you can open the portal to the Vault of Inceptus here!

Vault of Radix – Carcadia Burn
The Vault of Radix can be found near a small pond in the Gridstone of the Worthy in Carcadia Burn.

Start by fast travelling to the Rustical Hurl Order Silo and head directly north towards the Vault symbol at the center of the Trace area. When you’re almost directly on top of the map-marker, you will find a small pond at the base of a cliff. The Vault entrance can be found directly next to the pond, making the entrance to the Vault of Radix a much easier find than the previous one.

Vault of Origo – Terminus Range
The entrance to the Vault of Origo is hidden in a cave in The Low Leys in the Terminus Range.

To get to the Vault entrance, first head south from The Nightcap Safehouse until you reach the road on the rim of the Trace area. From this location, look for an Auger Shrine icon on the map, and position yourself on the road directly north east of it.

By facing towards the shrine you will be able to see a ledge you can jump onto, with a path that will lead you to a cave inside the mountain.

Once you follow this path past the Auger Shrine and deep into the cave, you will find the location of the Vault of Origo.

With all three keys in hand and the locations of each Vault uncovered, you can now challenge the Primordial Guardians inside to claim your reward. We wish you best of luck, Vault Hunter!
