Fellowship Rime Hero Guide

Rime is an Intelligence-based DPS hero who excels at ranged frost magic. She builds Anima through her abilities, creating Winter Orbs, and converts both into devastating burst spells. Positioning and resource flow are key — when managed correctly, she delivers explosive AoE and strong single-target damage.

This guide will teach you the basics of playing Rime in Fellowship, how to use her abilities, and which talents to choose for the best build.

  • High burst potential with Ice Blitz + Relics.
  • Flexible & simple rotation through priority system
  • Resource (Winter Orbs) fuels both single-target and AoE scaling.
Weaknesses
  • Rotation punishes Winter Orb overcapping, resulting in a massive DPS loss.

Anima and Winter Orbs Mechanic

Rime generates Anima which converts into a Winter Orb at 9 stacks. Winter Orbs are then spent to cast powerful burst spells, Glacial Blast for single target and Ice Comet for Area of Effect (AoE). Winter Orbs cap at 5, so actively managing orb generation and spending to keep your damage up, save for bursts, but also not waste any through over-capping.

Orbs and Anima are shown on the HUD just under the character.

Rime Talents and Build

Rime has a couple of viable choices for talent builds. We are suggesting the Winter’s Embrace build to give stronger burst windows with your Winter Orbs and later on weapon abilities.

Winter’s Embrace (1B) gives a 3 second burst window where all of your damage is increased at the end of the Bursting Ice cast. Even without haste, you’ll easily be able to fit two of your strongest abilities available in here each window, every ~12 seconds.

Burstbolter (2A) gives 3x as much Anima on any filler Frostbolt cast, and also causes it to do an extra amount of AoE damage. Whatever build you go with, it’s important to have some extra resource generating talent like this one or Navir’s Keeper (2C).

Avalanche (3B) causes your Ice Comets to have a chance to double and triple cast for free, greatly increasing your average AoE damage.

Coalescing Frost (3C) adds an extra AoE burst damage to Freezing Torrent, additionally aiding in burning trash mobs down.

Greater Glacial Blast (4B) is taken after you reach the next rank, and have a bit more sub-stats to work with. It will take a little bit getting used to but extra haste will make it better. It significantly increases the damage during your Wraith of Winter which makes it instant anyway.

Frostweaver’s Wrath (5B) is taken to boost your damage significantly. Frostweaver’s Wrath can stack up to 2 times, so you don’t need to worry about over-capping or losing the buff.

Wisdom of the North (6C) significantly reduces your longer cooldowns, offering more larger burst windows within the time-frame of a dungeon.

Biting Cold (6A) is raw critical power, cheap for 1 point and isn’t affected by diminishing returns.

Remember to not take talent trees as is and adjust for any legendary or weapon trees you get.

Rime Openers and Rotations

When playing Rime, you want to balance keeping your important Anima and Winter Orb generators Bursting Ice, Freezing Torrent and Cold Snap on cool-down while using your Glacial Blast and Ice Comet as needed either to prevent over-capping or during burst windows.

Finally, if you’ve exhausted all other options, Frostbolt can be used as a filler cast.

Winter’s Embrace Burst Windows

Through Ice Blitz, Winter’s Blessing and the Winter’s Embrace talent you’ll get far more value out of your Winter Orb attacks instead of using them right away. You’re able to store up to 5 Winter Orbs and 8 Anima before overcapping, which still gives you room to keep Bursting Ice and Freezing Torrent on cool-down.

Winter’s Embrace lasts 3 seconds which allows for a 2 second cast of Glacial Blast, and an instant cast such as Cold Snap or Ice Comet. With 50%+ haste achievable with legendary boots, you can fit 3 GCDs inside of one Winter’s Embrace window.

Single Target Priority

Keep everything on cool-down, ensuring you do not overcap with Cold Snap by casting Glacial Blast as necessary. When using Wrath of Winter, you can fit two Glacial Blasts in a single Winter’s Embrace, instead of the Ice Comet.

  1. Ice Blitz
  2. Winter’s Blessing
  3. Flight of the Navir
  4. Bursting Ice
  5. Freezing Torrent
  6. Cold Snap
  7. Glacial Blast
  8. Frost Bolt

AoE Priority

Keep everything on cool-down, ensuring you do not overcap with Cold Snap by casting Ice Comet as necessary. Aim to build up 4 Winter Orbs for each Winter’s Embrace window.

  1. Ice Blitz
  2. Winter’s Blessing
  3. Flight of the Navir
  4. Freezing Torrent
  5. Bursting Ice
  6. Cold Snap

Gearing and Stat Priority

Substats have the following effect for Rime:

  • Critical Strike – Chance for damage effects to crit, doubling their effect. Many of Rime’s talents have interaction with Critical Strike as well, such as Biting Cold, Frostweaver’s Wrath and Talon’s Edict.
  • Expertise – Increases all damage, healing and absorption effects triggered by Rime.
  • Haste – Increases GCD speed (1.5s base), casting speed and the tick rate of damage and healing effects.
  • Spirit – Increases the rate you charge your spirit ability. Every 1% of Spirit gives 0.5% chance to refund any Winter Orbs spent when using abilities that cost Winter Orbs.

Item level is king and will have the greatest effect on your damage. However, when choosing substats we need to consider the following.

Critical Strike affects Rime’s damage and there are effects that play off of critical strikes.

Expertise increases her damage by a flat percent.

Haste decreases the GCD and cast times of every spell, and the cooldown of Cold Snap. You’ll generate more Winter Orbs on average, and get more big casts out over the duration of a dungeon.

Spirit increases the frequency of her ultimate slightly and offers the chance to get free refunds on Winter Orbs. Spirit will give you more casts of Winter Orb abilities, and more opportunities to fit them inside Winter’s Embrace windows.
