White Mage Job Guide for FFXIV — Endwalker 6.5

Last updated on Jan 29, 2024 at 21:46 by Pyre 6 comments

White Mage is a healer job in Final Fantasy XIV that uses an array of healing spells to aid their allies in combat. They can be unlocked by obtaining your job stone as a Level 30 or higher Conjurer, after completing the required class quests.

1.

What is White Mage's Playstyle?

White Mage (WHM) is the bread and butter JRPG healer job. White Mage focuses on using holy aetheric energy to mend wounds and smite foes while boasting very high up-front potency on both its main damage and main healing spells, in addition to generating a resource known as "Lilies" to gain access to more powerful tools.

White Mage's playstyle revolves around reacting to damage and using as many tools as possible to recover the party's health with up-front healing power. The job plays a bit slower-paced and is very comfortable at an entry-level, making it quite accessible to pick up and get going. The main core fundamentals of healer are very much attainable with the no-nonsense kit of White Mage, teaching players how to handle content as a healer role in FFXIV without having to worry too much about other kit gimmicks. However, at a high level, White Mage can still perform very well in the trained hands, utilizing lilies and raw stopping power to muscle through content effectively and efficiently.

It is also worth noting that compared to other healers, White Mage has the most issues with maintaining its MP - a resource required to cast spells - above a level that lets it continually string casts together. Good White Mages will be able to make use of their kit properly, as well as gear themselves accordingly for content, to let this concern be as benign as possible.

2.

White Mage Strengths and Weaknesses

V Strengths
  • +Easily accessible job mechanics.
  • +High potency rebate on select GCD healing spells via lilies.
  • +Reliable and immediate damage and healing spells.
X Weaknesses
  • -No raid utility.
3.

How do you Unlock White Mage?

White Mage is available to all players of the game no matter what expansion they have purchased up to and how late in the game they have reached. The only prerequisite is that the player character has unlocked Conjurer from Old Gridania (x6.5, y11.0), has reached level 30 on it, and completed all the basic class quests up to level 30. Afterward, the player will automatically be able to speak to E-Sumi-Yan from the Conjurer's Guild to unlock White Mage and begin its job quests.

White Mage Gauge

White Mage FFXIV Healing Gauge

The Healing Gauge displays all currently acquired Lilies, used to cast Afflatus Solace Icon Afflatus Solace and Afflatus Rapture Icon Afflatus Rapture, and the current progress towards growing the Blood Lily, used to cast Afflatus Misery Icon Afflatus Misery.

4.1.

Progress Towards Lilies

Acquiring a Lily requires the player to be in combat. Every 20 seconds in combat, one Lily will bloom on the Healing Gauge. We can see our progress towards acquiring a Lily with a blue line that traces the white vine of the gauge, growing from the stem to the top.

White Mage FFXIV (L)Progressing towards lily, (R)One lily acquired

After having acquired a Lily, the gauge will bloom one blue flower from the white vine, indicating one usage of Afflatus Solace Icon Afflatus Solace or Afflatus Rapture Icon Afflatus Rapture is ready. We can hold up to three of these Lilies at a time before the gauge stops progressing towards blooming a new Lily.

4.1.1.

Blood Lilies

Every time a Lily is consumed to cast Afflatus Solace Icon Afflatus Solace or Afflatus Rapture Icon Afflatus Rapture, the blood Lily will begin to be nourished and blossom. This is indicated near the bottom/stem of the gauge, as a red crystalline bud will begin to appear.

White Mage FFXIV Nourishing Blood Lily

After three Lilies are consumed, the Blood Lily will fully flourish, indicating one cast of Afflatus Misery Icon Afflatus Misery is ready. This cast will consume the Blood Lily.

White Mage Lore

White magic, the arcane art of succor, was conceived eras past that the world might know comfort. Alas, man began perverting its powers for self-gain, and by his wickedness brought about the Sixth Umbral catastrophe. Although the art subsequently became forbidden, it is now in the midst of a revival at the hands of the Padjal, chosen of the elementals.

Those who would walk the path of the white mage are healers without peer, possessed of the power to deliver comrades from the direst of afflictions—even the icy grip of death itself.
