Profession Bonuses: A quick overview

Recommended Posts

Current beta bonuses, I will try to keep this updated. (updated 22/09/2012)

Gathering Professions:

trade_mining.jpgMining

  • ability_golemthunderclap.jpgToughness, grants 480 stamina.
  • Can be useful for tanks or in PvP.
spell_nature_naturetouchgrow.jpgHerbalism
  • Bonus: spell_nature_wispsplodegreen.jpgLifeblood 2880haste for 20s every 2 minutes. Same as 480 passive haste. Also has a very minor heal 13875 to 16125.
inv_misc_pelt_wolf_01.jpgSkinning

Crafting Professions:

trade_engraving.jpgEnchanting

trade_blacksmithing.jpgBlacksmithing
  • Bonuses: item_socketedbracer.jpgSocket Bracer and inv_misc_addsocketglove.jpgSocket Gloves. 320 for any stat or 480 stamina. No epic gems are in the beta, they will probably be added in 5.2 or 5.3.
trade_engineering.jpgEngineering
  • New cogwheel gems and head items have been added. I won't link all of them but you can find them here: Helms and Gems.
  • There are new engineering gadgets: most are popular upgrades of

    past gadgets.

  • The first one is spell_fire_bluefirenova.jpgWormhole Generator: Pandaria which teleports the user to a random location in Pandaria. There is no Cataclysm equivalent, but Wrath of the Lich King/Northrend had a similar wormhole generator.
  • inv_pet_lilsmoky.jpgBlingtron 4000 is an upgrade of jeeves. He likes to be called Bling and gives out a random gift(inv_misc_gift_03.jpgBlingtron 4000 Gift Package) once a day if you talk to him. The contents are still unknown.
  • inv_pet_lilsmoky.jpgThermal Anvil puts down a Thermal Anvil which is an anvil and a forge at the same time, which is very useful for Blacksmiths and Engineers. (lasts 5 minutes, 5 minute cooldown).
  • A new set of goggles has been added which allows you to see additional mining nodes, herbs and hides in Pandaria inv_helmet_47.jpgMist-Piercing Goggles. For now they are BoE and do not require engineering. The exact effect is still unknown but it would be most likely that it just increases the amount of resources gained form gathering.
  • The old Deepdive Helmet which allowed to breathe underwater gets an update. The inv_helmet_49.jpgAdvanced Deepdive Helmet now also has an on-use effect which increases swim speed by 150% for 15 seconds (1 minute cooldown). The helm cannot be used to transmogrify, while the previous version can be. The previous version can still be learned through the inv_scroll_03.jpgSchematic: Deepdive Helmet, but this schematic is no longer obtainable in the game. If you don't already have it or find it on the Auction House you won't be able to craft this.
  • Some fun gadgets. The first one is used to open locks (doors/ lockboxes). The other 2 are AoE damage gadgets: inv_misc_bomb_07.jpgLocksmith's Powderkeg, trade_engineering.jpgG91 Landshark and trade_engineering.jpgGoblin Flame Thrower, Mark II.
  • Two new scopes have been added: inv_misc_scopea.jpgMirror Scope and inv_misc_scopea.jpgLord Blastington's Scope of Doom
  • Two new BoE mounts have been added as well as a new pet: ability_mount_rocketmountblue.jpgGeosynchronous World Spinner, ability_mount_rocketmountblue.jpgDepleted-Kyparium Rocket and inv_misc_head_dragon_bronze.jpgMechanical Pandaren Dragonling.
  • New fireworks have been added: inv_misc_missilelarge_yellow.jpgCelestial Firework, inv_misc_missilelarge_red.jpgGrand Celebration Firework and inv_misc_missilesmallcluster_green.jpgJade Serpent Firework.
  • Some BoP Item enhancements have been added as well, 3 hand enchants, a belt and a back enchant. The belt and cloak enchant are mostly utility: The belt enchant trade_engineering.jpgWatergliding Jets provides water walking and swim speed, while the trade_engineering.jpgGoblin Glider gives slow fall speed while boosting you forward, but has a chance to malfunction.

The glove enchants provide either a dodge buff, a ranged fire attack or a stat increase. The numbers on these enchants probably aren't final just yet. trade_engineering.jpgPhase Fingers, trade_engineering.jpgIncindiary Fireworks Launcher and trade_engineering.jpgSynapse Springs

trade_alchemy.jpgAlchemy
  • Bonus: inv_potion_112.jpgMixology an extra 320 Strength, Agility, Intellect, Spirit or 480 Stamina when using a flask. The duration of flasks is also doubled .
  • So far there is no upgraded equivalent of the cauldrons in the beta. We'll have to wait and see what happens to them.
  • While not flasked, alchemists can gain their buff through the use of inv_misc_endlesspotion.jpgAlchemist's Flask which is a non-consumable item. The tooltip is broken at the time of writing and shows 3420 bonus instead of 320.
  • Alchemists may also specialize in one of three skills: inv_relics_totemoflife.jpgTransmutation Master, inv_relics_totemoflife.jpgPotion Master or inv_relics_totemoflife.jpgElixir Master. These skills are acquired from a quest given to you by the alchemy trainer in your capital at skill level 475. These skills give a chance to produce additional product when creating something you're specialised in. Note that the elixir mastery also procs on flasks.
inv_inscription_tradeskill01.jpgInscriptioninv_misc_gem_01.jpgJewelcrafting
  • Bonuses: 2 cut versions of item_cutmetagemb.jpgSerpent's Eye. This will give a bonus of 320 in any stat or 480 stamina. The stat breakdown remains mostly the same.
  • New Rings and necklaces crafting spells have been added, but the items have not so there is no way to look at them yet.
  • No epic gems are in the beta, they will probably be added in a later patch (5.1, 5.2 or 5.3).
  • Lastly, 5 mounts have been added to the profession. The epic one is made by combining the four other mounts which each cost 5xinv_misc_enchantedpearla.jpgOrb of Mystery to make and judging by the vendor price the item used to have (25K gold) this item is probably very expensive. As the tooltip says the item is sold by Big Keech in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. This NPC however is not yet implemented in the beta. This will most likely be a gold sink in MoP since the item was first called "Something Expensive", it was then changed to "Golden Sink" before being named "Living Stone" and now "Orb of Mystery".
  • inv_jewelcrafting_blackpearlpanther.jpgJeweled Onyx Panther
  • inv_jewelcrafting_blackpearlpanther.jpgDawnstone Panther
  • inv_jewelcrafting_blackpearlpanther.jpgEmerald Panther
  • inv_jewelcrafting_blackpearlpanther.jpgRuby Panther
  • ability_mount_onyxpanther_blue.jpgSapphire Panther

Here is a nice picture of the five mounts the way they currently look with modelviewer:

cataclysm profession bonuses

This is a quick overview of the bonuses you get from professions, I won't give any class/spec specific guidelines since most professions give the same buff (in another way) and it mostly comes down to personal preference.

Let's start with:

Gathering Professions:

trade_mining.jpgMining

  • Bonus: ability_golemthunderclap.jpgToughness, adds 120 stamina.
  • Can be useful for tanks or in PvP.
spell_nature_naturetouchgrow.jpgHerbalism
  • Bonus: spell_nature_wispsplodegreen.jpgLifeblood, provides 480 haste for 20s every 2 minutes. Same as 80 passive haste (also has a very minor heal 710 to 2160).
inv_misc_pelt_wolf_01.jpgSkinning

Crafting Professions:

trade_engraving.jpgEnchanting

trade_blacksmithing.jpgBlacksmithing
  • Bonuses: item_socketedbracer.jpgSocket Bracer and inv_gauntlets_61.jpgSocket Gloves. 80 for any stat or 120 stamina. 100 or 150 respectively with epic gems.
  • If you put epic gems in these sockets you will get the biggest bonus possible compared to other professions.
trade_engineering.jpgEngineering
  • Bonuses: spell_shaman_elementaloath.jpgSynapse Springs, on-use effect that adds 80 Strength, Agility, or Intellect for 10s per minute, equivalent to a passive 80 Strength, Agility or Intellect.
  • Tanks may use trade_engineering.jpgQuickflip Deflection Plates on their gloves for 1500 armor for 12s/min, equivalent to 300 passive armor.
  • Note: These bonuses cannot be activated with on-use trinkets. They are also in addition to a regular glove enchant, meaning that you can have both at the same time.
  • The now obsolete cogwheel helmets were great bonuses at the start of the expansion. They gave 208 extra dodge, critical strike rating, haste, mastery, resilience, expertise, parry, hit, spirit or resilience rating through the cogwheel gems.
  • Notable other bonuses during raids are:
    • inv_pet_lilsmoky.jpgJeeves for a repair bot where all the raid members can repair their items.
    • inv_misc_molle.jpgMOLL-E, a portable mailbox for when people need to get flasks, potions, cauldrons, gems, enchants... out of their mailbox.
    • trade_engineering.jpgNitro Boosts for when you need a sprint. These can fail, dealing 10% of your maximum health in fire damage every second for 8 seconds through spell_fire_flameblades.jpgRocket Fuel Leak.
  • Engineers have many other fun objects like firework, spell_nature_polymorph.jpgExplosive Sheep, inv_misc_head_dragon_01.jpgMechanical Dragonling, ability_hunter_beastcall02.jpgLoot-A-Rang, and many other fun little things.
  • And last but not least, engineers have 2 engineering specific mounts: ability_mount_gyrocoptorelite.jpgTurbo-Charged Flying Machine and ability_mount_gyrocoptor.jpgFlying Machine. Also a non-engineering specific mount, different per faction. Horde: inv_misc_key_06.jpgMechano-Hog. Alliance: inv_misc_key_14.jpgMekgineer's Chopper.
trade_alchemy.jpgAlchemy
  • Bonus: inv_potion_112.jpgMixology, an extra 80 Strength, Agility, Intellect, Spirit or 120 Stamina when using a flask (the tooltip on the buff will still say 300/450, but you do get 380/570 stats). And the duration of flasks is doubled (2 hours for normal flasks, 4 hours for cauldron flasks if the guild is level 22+).
  • Alchemists can make inv_guild_cauldron_a.jpgCauldron of Battle or inv_guild_cauldron_b.jpgBig Cauldron of Battle for use in raids. However, you cannot gain 80 spirit from the inv_potion_112.jpgFlask of Battle obtained from these cauldrons.
  • While not flasked, alchemists can gain their buff through the use of inv_misc_endlesspotion.jpgAlchemist's Flask which is a non-consumable item. The tooltip is broken at the time of writing and shows 3420 bonus instead of 320.
  • At skill level 500 alchemists can make epic BoP trinkets with a socket, these are not very useful right now as they get replaced really fast in LFR/dungeons. These trinkets are item_alchemiststoneb.jpgVolatile Alchemist Stone, item_alchemiststone.jpgQuicksilver Alchemist Stone, item_alchemiststonec.jpgVibrant Alchemist Stone and spell_holy_aspiration.jpgLifebound Alchemist Stone.
  • Bonus: 3 cut versions of item_cutmetagemb.jpgChimera's Eye giving 81 in any stat or 123 stamina.
  • This profession gives the highest bonus possible before 4.3. When all gems are replaced by epic gems, jewelcrafting gives the weakest bonus of all professions.

That should be that, I'll keep this post reserved as well. Might need it in the future.

Herbalists can make /images/wow_icon_inv_guild_cauldron_a.jpg Cauldron of Battle or /images/wow_icon_inv_guild_cauldron_b.jpg Big Cauldron of Battle for use in raids. However, you cannot gain 80 spirit from the /images/wow_icon_inv_potion_112.jpg Flask of Battle obtained from these cauldrons.

I believe you meant to say Alchemists can make the Cauldron of Battle as being an herbalist shouldn't matter.

/images/wow_icon_inv_inscription_tradeskill01.jpg Inscription

Some new glyphs have been added, but there isn't a lot of information on them yet. No updates to the inscriptions either.

What we do know about inscription so far is that they will be providing the shoulder enchants from now on. So we shall see how that goes.

Great stuff MadMonk,

I really hope they have some great stuff planned for engineering. As mentioned in another thread it seemed to lack a little in Cataclysm and although Synapse Springs were good the fact they didnt combine with trinkets and was an on use item made it a little situational. Even macro'd to a few other things I still prefer to have a passive buff permanently on my gear.

Just a quick note regarding something I noted in the Beta, all of your profession mounts seem to be in the character choice menu for each toon, but they are still only useable to the characters who have the profession (obvious I know but did make me double take when I saw a Flying Carpet on my main!)

I have a question, is it normal that Fur Lining stuff appears in the first post? I understand that this is a new thing in MoP and that your first post is dedicated to profession bonuses in Cataclysm :P

Edit: Nevermind! I should learn to read tooltips more carefully!

I am also another hoping for something really good for us Engineers in Mists. I was majorly disappointed to have nothing 'fun' really with this new expansion and am hoping they can make up for it in the new patch.

Thanks for this MadMonk :)

Thank you MadMonk! This info really helps! Being a small guild, we were just trying to figure out what toons to set up with what professions to give them the most useful bonus' , items, stats from it, and this helps see at a glance, what is most useful to who. :) Great Job!

There is an equivalent to the Flask of Enhancement for Alchemists: inv_misc_endlesspotion.jpgAlchemist's Flask

The tooltip is obviously bugged, but it should always grant 320 stat point anyway.

EDIT: As for Inscription, they will be designed to give shoulder enchants to people rather than traditionally being sold as items from vendors.

HOLEY CR** .......um.........moley? jeeze, i just read through what glyphs they are changing for rogues, and the only ones they are changing are the ones that MAKE A DIFFERENCE in DPS! They are really hosing us over! Usually when an expansion or patch comes out, we are the LEAST messed around with class.....why? because were already perfect! But now Blizz is jacking with our glyphs big time! 25% more damage on SS BUT loosing 25% more energy, so what rogue would use that at ALL??? you would have to have some serious energy regen just to COUNTER that glyph to get the bonus of that 25%! ugh!

okay, i have to go take a valium and hide in a closet now..........Posted Image

Take it easy! It's not Rogues getting nerfed, every class' glyphs are losing their "this is an obvious benefit, use it" character. It's happening for Priests, Warriors and everything else. It's just a design decision and you won't lose any power, you will (likely) remain as balanced as before.

Balanced as in: Everyone will still run away in fear when they see you.

Awesome update. Totally loving those new mounts.

Sorry to ask the obvious but when I look at the tooltip they dont say you need a JC skill. Does this mean they will be available to all? SO want one on my priest (not a JC)!

So far it looks like they're BoE so you can get it on any character. Remember that mounts will be account wide in MoP, the only mounts that won't be account-wide are PvP mounts and class-specific mounts.

That would be cool if you could use them on any toon - I'm glad my mage is a JC but I really like those mounts and so would prefer them on my main :) Not as keen on the onxy one but the blue one is sweet.

Nice post, considering the fact that i need to drop some old professions to have chars at their best for mop.

JC in your opinion is a good choice? Is extremely moneymaking in first 2 patches after new expansion release... but when epic gems will be out, JC is the most useless profession ever... (i don't really care about the mount, actually).

I still made a lot of money from selling epic gems in Cataclysm ;)

I created a guide for Crafting in Legion. It was posted on Wowhead a few days ago. You can check it out here. http://www.wowhead.com/guide=5282. Let me know what you think of it.

Hey! Thanks for reading my thread and i hope that you can help me out.
As right now My guild is literally "bullying" me into doing more damage and it isn't nice, however i believe they are right in the matter of my damage isn't up to what it should be so I would love anyones help in finding what is wrong or not worn with my mage. In the logs below is HFC HC with my guild and I have my t18 2set and got to 1300 haste. personally i think that i focus too much on carrying others on mechanics than going for meters.

      ARMORY: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/tarren-mill/Ozzykz/simple

please help me be a better mage xD

      Hi,

item level from Blackrock Foundry on normal is 665.

Is it better to use T17 2 / 4 set bonus with only 665 item level, or stay with 670 / 685 items from Mythic/Hc Highmaul and no set bonus?

I know that T17 set bonuses for rogue are very strong and gives signinifacnt dps increas.

But I wonder is it better to use T17 bonuses with lower item level or stay with no bonus gear but higher item level ?

      Cheers,
      Nesh

So I'm nearly level 100, and Elemental is my OS but I'm still torn...when should I opt for higher level gear over my Heroic/Mythic T16 4-piece set? It's always a little sad for me to lose tier bonuses. I was thinking of waiting until I actually hit 100 to replace T16 with higher iLevel gear but should I do it sooner?
