what you said about affli not being good compared to the other speccs in raids is not true, the top dps'ers of locks in raids are affliction, get your facts straight

That's just N, but I checked H and Xavius N/H and none of them are top affliction spots.  Xavius had two Destro and the others were Demo.

ETA: Checked Nythendra also.  first 3 lock spots are all Demo.

I have a question regarding stat priority and proposed Best in Slot gear.

In our proposed BIS list. We have a Ring that has main stat Crit then Haste. Would it not be better, in theory, to use a same IL ring from Mythic+'s that has main stat Mast and off-stat Haste?

Do I not just wanna cram as much Mastery in as possible from my gear? What is the benefit of losing 1300ish Mastery for 1300ish Crit?

Using the Stat weight calculations for relative dps. The 880 ring from Xavius offers us about 1,611 dps while a same IL ring with Mastery instead of Crit offers us about 2,020 dps.

My thought is that when these BiS items were proposed, Mythic+ dungeons were not factored in or we were not made aware of them yet. This is just my idea though, I am curious on thoughts from better theorycrafters than myself.

Thank you guys and gals!

The lists specifically refer to gear from raids, since including M+ gear can get really messy. This is due to the fact that there are numerous rings that can fill that BiS slot, depending on WF/TF levels, the tiny changes at actually getting them to hit those huge levels of increase, gems vs. non-gems, minor stat weight differences (600 vs 650 Haste, then comparing those two when one is slightly WF to bring it to 648 vs. 650). It can get incredibly messy. Generally, if you want to include M+ gear in there, you just need to sim your character and apply scaling stat weights to your gear. It's the only way to truly weight those M+ upgrades.

7.1 UPDATE
I see it still references Shadowfury in Tier 3, if you wanted it removed for clarity.

Thanks for that, will notify Furty.

The Pandemic section still mentions Unstable Affliction being a rolling DoT, though it rather ironically suggests thinking of UA as separate debuffs.  Should probably be updated to reflect the separate debuffs, and the cap of 5 per target (which also might be worth mentioning in the rotation section as well).

Maybe I'm not reading this right, but sections "1. Ability Priority List" and "2.8. Effigy vs. Conduit" seem to be in conflict wrt how many targets should be dotted:

Quote

1. Ability Priority List

  1. Maintain Agony Icon Agony (on up to 5 targets, including Soul Effigy Icon Soul Effigy if talented) at all times.
Quote

2.8. Effigy vs. Conduit

At 4+ targets it is no longer efficient to continue to apply DoTs to new targets. Therefore, the maximum amount of targets we will ever apply Agony Icon Agony to is 3 targets.

Has anybody noticed that while beeing in a Group with two Affliction Warlocks, and both of them using Soul Effigy, that cast macros for the Effigy tend to try to cast on the other Warlocks Effigy instead of your own? This sucks hard, allthough this problem may only affect _very_ few players, it's still very anoying.

I've passed that on to Furty, thanks!

Personally, no, but I very rarely encounter another Aff when I do play mine. Is there any way to distinguish between the two in the macro I wonder?

Apparently not since both have the same name. I reported this as a bug via the ingame reporting tool, too. For Encounters with single target + effigy I switch to my focus macro instead and have the effigy be my focus target. I met another Affli Lock with whom I did some Odyn HC and Mythic pluses, can get really anoying on some encounters.

Damn that sucks. A good workaround anyway though, thanks for sharing!

Are you basing whether or not the affliction is the stronger in raids based on the very top percentile of players? IIRC, I was seeing mostly affliction above the others are most percentiles except max percentile. Also, at just about every percentile and keystone level (except for 13) for mythics had demonology and/or destro above affliction. This may be an issue with not being updated recently, but what I'm seeing on warcraftlogs would contradict what you're saying about affliction being the best spec for mythics.

Hi, I play an affliction lock on Kirin Tor, and I have found that I do vastly more damage using grimore of supremacy in raids over service. Granted I am not doing mythics, but I do more than the rest of my guild in heroic EN, and often find myself getting decently high rankings over all other affliction locks doing the same content according to warcraftlogs

When I am using service I find my average dps drops from 300-360k to 245-260k. This leads me to believe that the information you are providing in your guide is leading the majority of affliction locks to overlooking using supremacy, as most people use your guide as law. The felhunter will be doing ~42k per bite as opposed to my doomguard's 81k per bolt. The burst of using service and doomguard as cooldown abilities is far worse for my dps than having my doomguard doom bolting for 81k or higher at all times.

Any chance this will be updated like the destruction one has been? What about a trinket list like destro has?

I'm sure Furty is working hard to get the updates prepared for 7.1.5! Until then, I doubt you'll see a large overhaul to the structure of the guide, since updates are required to every guide he writes.

Instead, I would assume that once 7.1.5 is released, we can look into upgrading the structure of other guides as well :) Just hang tight, it's coming!

The guides are currently being updated for 7.1.5! I just wanted to leave a few notes for all of our users that might be getting ready to leave a comment:

  • Some pages do not require updates. The "Last Updated" stat does not mean the page is out of date, it might just not have needed any changes. If you feel that it does, leave a comment telling us what needs changing and why.
  • The process will not happen immediately - some guides will be updated faster than others simply due to the number of resources available. Be patient, they'll be ready when you need them!
  • There might be some continuity errors when making small adjustments to large guide pages. If you do find one of these, just let us know in the comments and we'll get it fixed ASAP.
  • "Why have you not taken into account X buff to X ability?" - remember, just because something got buffed, it doesn't mean it is now automatically better than the other options!

As always, we want to thank you all for being patient while we get things updated and I'm always available to help you all if you need it :)

The names and descriptions of a couple talents still aren't updated, Malefic Grasp is now Drain Soul, Empowered Life Tap is now Mana Tap. Are the talent sections still taking this into consideration?

Can you post me a specific example? I don't see any mention of Mana Tap or the old Drain Soul on the talents page.

Thanks for the great and quick update for 715.

I have a question about the affliction rotation, since the best Tier2 talent now is contagion instead of absolute corruption.

The guide says: "Apply Unstable Affliction twice."

Does this mean whenever UA expires, it should be applied twice (one for the debuff, one for damage)? If it is applied earlier when the last one still exists, it could be applied only once (trying to maintain at least one UA 100% uptime)? Then, is it necessary to apply a new UA always before the last one expires?

Thanks!

Season 4 has partially started on NA servers, as players are noticing elements of the new season popping up. This is actually planned and was announced by Blizzard, as you can see below, but players were not expecting this much to change before the reset.
      Season 4 (Source)
Dragonflight Season 3 will be ending April 22 at 10:00 p.m. PDT, the night before the regularly scheduled maintenance, with Dragonflight Season 4 beginning immediately following on April 23. The blue post indicated that the season should start soon after, on the 23rd, which presumably means after the weekly reset. Here are some of the things that have already changed.
Players have been reporting various aspects of the season being in-game, starting with Season 3 items now being marked as legacy, with a grey tooltip, as spotted by Strosts:

      Source.
Crests and Flightstones have also been reset, with new ones dropping from World Quests.
Catalyst charges are also now in Season 4 mode, as spotted by lemoncocoapuff.

We have four new zones coming in the War Within, but just how large are they, all told? We have a few community members showing their relative sizes off, comparing to various other expansion landmasses, which we'll be taking a look at today.
First of all, the new expansion has one above-ground zone and three below, as the Isle of Dorn is our gateway into the three underground zones. This is best showcased by Sturtime2, who broke the Dragonflight and War Within zones down (with Zaralek, Emerald Dream and Forbidden Reach all being post-expansion launch zones):

      Source.
Now that we have a better idea of the War Within zone structure, we have a more visually direct comparison by CygnetFR, who also added Kul Tiras in there for comparison:

      Source.
And finally we have another Dragon Isles comparison, only this time with the Easern Kingdoms thrown in, courtesy of keyboardturn:

Blizzard have offered some feedback on player comments on the Priest Hero talents on the War Within Alpha, as our own guide writer, Publik, pointed out some issues with Voidreaver.
      Priest Feedback (Source)
      Hello!
Thanks for this well-written post on the state of Voidweaver for Shadow.
First, to clarify the functionality of the rift: There are not current plans for there to be a pull-in effect. We’re closely watching the power level of utility coming from hero talent trees. Given the frequency of the rift, a pull-in would surpass the power level aiming for.
We appreciate the feedback that the slow effect from the slow effect from No Escape may not be utilized as often as we’re hoping especially compared to Dark Energy. As far as gameplay goes, the Entropic Rift window feeling tough to manage is something we aim to improve on during our next pass of the tree. Beyond that, there’s a lot of great bugs and feedback points here that we’ll bring back to the team and discuss.

Some updates on the other Priest Hero Talent trees:
We’ve updated Oracle’s design to be focused on healing instead of support mechanics and are looking for feedback about how it plays. There are a couple of talents that are not currently ready, and we’ll update those in the coming weeks, including a revision to the capstone. We’re also very excited about the visual effects for this tree and hope you are, too!
The design for Archon is currently a work in progress. The core of the design revolves around Halo, and we’ll unveil its talents soon.

Here we are with the final week of Season 3! While Patch 10.2.6 will continue on until May 7th, the new season will change everything, as we moving on from Amirdrassil to Awakened raids! The final week has brought a lot of change all over the place, including the very top, so let's see where everyone ended up.
Note: We are using Normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. The u.gg rankings at the bottom are raw DPS. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it's AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.
      Mythic
      Overall Damage 95th Percentile
We have some big shifts at the top here at the end of Season 3, as Subtlety reclaims its throne once more! Frost DK proves its unstable nature and drops a huge 6 spots down into 7th, but Unholy represents the DK class a lot better and stays strong in 2nd. Outlaw joins the Rogue resurgence and moves 5 spots up into 3rd, as Retribution slots in to 4th after Elemental's big 5 spot fall. Arcane joins the big risers as it makes its way from 11th all the way up into 5th, followed by the only other stable  spec in the top 10, Fury. Arms moves two up into 8th, with Havoc closing out the patch strong, at the end of the top 10 after a giant 8-spot resurgence. The rest of the Mages huddle right outside, followed by Enhancement. The bottom 3 remains the same, as we see Feral and Beast Mastery finish at the end of the list at the end of the patch, with Augmentation still waiting for some proper calculations to find itself near the top where it belongs.

95th percentile Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Overall Damage All Percentiles
We have a different No.1 at the end of the season in the generalist bracket, and it's a relatively unexpected one! Retribution uses all those gathered Fyr'alaths to grab the very top spot from Subtlety at the end of the line, as the rest of the top 5 is filled with axe-wielders as well! Fire moves 2 up in 6th, as Outlaw makes a big move in 7th, 7 up! Havoc and Arcane close out the top 10, both rising, as we see Devastation fall down into the bottom 3, joining Beast Mastery and Augmentation.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Boss Only Damage All Percentiles
Subtlety manages to take over in the direct damage charts as well, taking Unholy down a peg, with Retribution remaining stable in 3rd. Survival drops a few spots, down to the bottom of the top 10, as both Druids huddle up and grab 6th and 7th.
All percentiles Mythic data by Warcraft Logs.
      Heroic
      Overall Damage All Percentiles
Heroic remains very stable at the end of the season, with only Havoc and Demonology switching places in 5th, and Feral, Survival and Shadow moving into the top 10.

All percentiles Heroic data by Warcraft Logs.

      U.GG Raw Mythic DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks. This chart is for Mythic only.
Affliction retains its No.1 spot in the raw DPS rankings, as the rest of the top 3 remains stable as well. We see Subtlety actually drop down here, the opposite of the points-based charts, with Demonology and Arms moving past it. Frost and Unholy DKs move up together, gaining 3 and 2 spots, respectively. Fire closes out the top 10 1 spot down, and we see the two Druids remain in the bottom 3 at the end of the season.
