Muddied Parchment Hints at Druid Class in Diablo 3

Diablo didn't have any announcements at last year's BlizzCon and many wonder what's next in store for the franchise. Back in December, we wrote about analysts at Goldman Sachs predicting a new Diablo title by 2020. Redditor Leviathan111 recently released an interesting speculation video, where he explains how a PTR item hints at the iconic Druid class from Diablo 2.

Diablo Game Designer Sean White tweeted about a PTR secret that nobody found back when Patch 2.6.1 was playtested. In a series of tweets, it was revealed that the secret was related to Djank Miem, the set vendor on PTR. Leviathan bought an item from said vendor that usually contains items for non-Necromancer classes. Instead, he got a Muddied Parchment with the following flavor text:

The words are illegible from the elements and what appear to be claw marks.

Another hint at Druids are the Fiacla-Géar wings rewarded from Season 12. Their flavor text reads as follows:

Don't let a druid see you wearing these wings, as they may think you killed one of their brethren. (Source)

At some point during the development, they were known as Seraphim Wings according to Diablo Wiki, not Fiacla-Géar. We don't know if Druid was or still IS planned for Diablo 3 as a DLC (similar to the Necromancer), but these facts sure are interesting! Let us know what you think in the comments!

Props to @Deadset for bringing this up!

Wasn't a Diablo 2 remaster in Blizzard's project ?

If so, I don't really see the point to bring one of the classes from that game into Diablo 3.

But well, new content is always nice, although it will probably be another DLC.

Sure release more broken classes.. Current necro is just worse playstyle archon copy. Why they can't realize 2min cooldown op skills are breaking the game?

Does anyone really want this? I LOVED the D2 druid. He was all I played with a perfect enigma and everything... But if they are wasting time making D3 Druid I don't know what to say about it. The game is dying and this will do nothing to save it other than a band-aid and small sale boost like the necro was.

People have been saying that D3 is dying or is dead since before RoS was released.  As long as people keep playing Blizzard will keep developing, at some point they will switch from active development to maintenance on a project to prioritize upcoming projects, but the fact is people still play the game, so it's not dead yet.  Making a D3 druid may not be a waste of time to them, but it might be to others like you.  For me, I'd like to see it, but it wouldn't hurt me if I didn't.

Why not start making Diablo 4 instead of making a paid DLC for a game that no one plays? Not to mention that announcements like this should be a part of a new expansion, not some pay-to-play bullshit. And are we just going to ignore how the story hasn't advanced in any meaningful way in years (and no, small patches that add a new zones don't count at all). To say that this is insulting to the consumer is an understatement.

I'd much rather have the druid be a class in a soon to be released Diablo 4, but if that's out of the question, I'd take another D3 DLC as well. The druid has been my favourite class back then in D2, especially in his werebear-form, so I would just LOVE to play as one again in the near future. ^-^

It took 11 years before Diablo 2 got it's sequel and any progression to it's story so at arguing that point just seems spoiled to me. I'd rather it took another 11 years for a proper sequel than rushing one on.

D3 is at least getting something, be it new class or new areas and seasons while we wait. It's usually not the same team making updates to a game that would make the sequel so another team could be working on D4 while the current one keeps the existing players entertained.

I'll take that over free-to-play pay-2-win or lootboxes any day for that matter.

Diablo 3 is already dead even after this necro dlc (what was totally waste of money from me).
Should be nice to leave this game and start to focus something really new and big.

To each his own as always though, to me it was well worth the money and I still play the game for seasons and enjoying that part ^_^

Which would in turn mean a Diablo Druid for HotS?! PogChamp

Maybe another multiclass? Though considering that Varian is still the only one, I assume they just gave up on that

Why would that be a hindrance? HotS are Blizzard characters, not restricted to Diablo 3 alone :)
Xul was released before there was a Necro in Diablo 3, quite close but still.

I don't think making a DLC / new class would prevent them from doing D4, W4, or whatever peoples would dream off!

More broken classes? Lol. If you really think the current meta is that boring than play new builds or create your own that requires knowledge, skill, and creativity.

I agree with the other half of the statement, but you do realize they will make Diablo 4 to advance the story right? Honestly they need to just push out one last expansion and end their BS story of "Diablo will never die". There's only so many unique storylines and bosses you can create with this form of story telling.

Honestly though there should have been a Druid class from the get-go other than the Necro. Sure, the Necro is a nice change of pace and adds something to the game, but we already have a class that handles with the undead in it's own way *cough* Witch Doctor * Cough*. I'd rather see a class that utilizes transformations as it's main play style or nature related skills.

I think the Game is sorta dying too, but probably not in the way most of you think it is.

I'm bored to tears with Great Rifts - it's a never-ending repetitive boring slog just to get Higher on the Leader Boards.  To me, that's stupefyingly monotonous - there's nothing even remotely fun about that for me.

Increasing the Torment Level would fix that, and I'm not really sure why Blizz doesn't do that.

The anniversary Event this year is crap.  New Rewards would be nice.  The friggin' least Blizz could do would be to have a dumbazz Banner or Portrait.  But what would be cool would be a New Pet, or some cool Gear, or Transmogs... but we get zip... nada... crapola.

Don't most other games do a lot more?  Occasional New Maps, New Characters, New Gear?  Diablo gets none of this.

As for the Druid - I'd really dig that a lot!!!  He was my fave-rave cool D2 Character.

Happy four year anniversary since the release of Reaper of Souls! The first and only expansion for Diablo 3, it was preceded by about a month by Patch 2.0, which changed a number of gameplay systems in Diablo 3 like Loot 2.0, Paragon 2.0, Difficulty System Rework. The Reaper of Souls then arrived in Sanctuary as Malthael captured the Black Soulstone, becoming the Aspect of Death. The expansion brought:
A new class, the stalwart Crusader Level cap raised to 70 New items/powers only for level 61+ characters. Act V - Westmarch, Blood Marsh, and Battlefields of Eternity as some of the main locations Adventure Mode - Bounties, Nephalem Rifts The Mystic - Enchanting and Transmogrification Kadala and Blood Shard Gambling - The greatest evil of them all With that being said, we’re here to remember all the changes that have come to Diablo 3 since release, whether it was the introduction of the Infernal Machine, Brawling, Legendary Gems, or the removal of the Auction House, Invulnerable Minions, or the rework of Crafting Materials, Bounties, or Reflect affix.
We’ve got 20 Diablo velcro patches to give out. They were given out at BlizzCon 2017 for playing the Diablo demo. To be eligible to win, just post a top-level comment below with your favorite (or least favorite) change that has come to Diablo 3. If you need a refresher on all the changes, check out the condensed patch notes.
      Some additional rules:
You can only enter once. Your reddit account must be at least one month old by the time of this posting (i.e. created before February 25, 2018). All countries are eligible, although I’ll be shipping from the US, so it may take some to get to some parts of the world. Winners will be chosen randomly. Contest ends on April 1st, 11:59 PM PDT.
