Eternal Palace Day 9: Limit's Pull Changes Everyone's Approach

The news image is fan art of Queen Azshara created by DziKawa.

Day 9 in the Palace seemed pretty uneventful, purely from a boss % perspective, as most guilds didn't really get much further into the fight, but there's a very specific reason for that. We did however see JTH move past Method in the percentage wars, as they move into 2nd place with a 51% pull, as the Asia reset finally arrived.

First off, the big news: Limit's one and only sub-50% pull from yesterday completely shook things up, as the adds enraging at the half way mark instead of at 40% as expected affected everyone's strategies. This particular pull actually very much highlights how the race has changed now that everyone is streaming it, as Limit could have kept that little piece of information to themselves, causing other guilds to have to progress using the "wrong" strategy until they themselves made it below 50%.

So, what exactly happened? Well, it's pretty simple, the strategy so far in phase 3 had been nuke the boss down while also cleaving, dotting and other "by the way" measures of dealing with the 3 Tidemistresses, and so we kept seeing the boss health go down the more attempts the guilds had. After Limit's revelation, however, everyone saw that if the adds are up when she hits 49.9%, she will enrage them, making a much bigger problem. And so, ever since that pull, everyone has been completely focusing on trying to down those 3 adds before pushing the boss below 50%, and are actually not even focusing on getting her close to that, with most pulls ending around the 60% mark. The best try we've seen so far is by Limit, who managed to just barely get 2 adds down before immediately wiping, so there's a whole lot of progressing left. And here's the last 5 minutes of that 2 adds down pull, including a fascinating discussion on what actually happened at the end:

13:30:46

We also heard from Limit GM Max, as he shared his thoughts on Azshara and the type of difficulty of this particular endboss earlier in the day:

And then at the end of the day commented on their progress:

That was pretty much the entire day, with Method spending a lot of their time on more Heroic splits, and all guilds generally trying out various new strategies to deal with the 3 Tidemistresses. As soon as someone managed to get that done, we'll see some more progress on Azshara's health bar. The other big news we saw is not just one  but two Asia guilds moving past Method, with JTH ending their day at a 51% best and AFK R at 58%. With the latest information, however, these percentages mean somewhat less, but considering the Asia guilds hadn't even had their rest and were working with the first week's worth of loot, it's still pretty damn impressive. Their reset happened some hours ago, so we'll see how far they can push after their re-clear and re-gear, but this race is certainly getting more and more interesting.

Will we actually even see a clear this week? Will Blizzard eventually nerf the boss before the next reset? Or will a guild find a way to push through those pesky 3 adds as-is? Today should give us at least one of those answers are all the guilds will be geared up and at the prime in pushing the boss.

She honestly doesnt look fun on mythic, like the insta kill mechanics never are and to wipe because of no space and having to do 3 separate mechanics.

They're not fun when learning and in a stressful environment, which progression raiding alone can be, add that to a world first race being streamed to thousands, and the pressure is on. But once you spot a pattern and get it right, it's very rewarding and not always as bad as first made out.

That said, there will be nerfs to this boss before the non bleeding edge players can kill it by the looks of things.

I am wondering if this is an unintentional bug within the fight.  I understand completely that all eyes are on the Mythic World First Race and that this is the most challenging/stressful current content within BFA.  And usually there are nerfs that will take place after the encounter has been vanquished.  However if the boss is purposely enraging the adds too soon per percentage and the enrage effects can't be dispelled via a Druid's ability.   Could the enraging the adds timer be somewhat off?

I could always be wrong with this assumption however it does make me ponder on the situation further.

I doubt that, if it was a bug they'd have already fixed it. These fights get sooo many stealth hotfixes that never make the notes that only the top guilds even know about it's crazy. Specifically speaking of Kil'jaeden he had 2-3 rounds of many nerfs never documented anywhere in the first week or two of progress.

Even so it should be interesting to see how all this unfolds but just at that 50% marker seems even great team coordination and cooldown placement is not helping either in this point of the fight.

Rextroy is back after a bit of a soloing absence, and he's gotten some gear ready in 8.3 - so naturally it was time to head into the current raid and solo a boss! Prophet Skitra is the second or third boss of the raid, depending on whether you pick her or Maut after Wrathion, and in this World First video we get a little extra explanation on how he did it by Rextroy (head to 5:36 in the video for that part).

You can also check out our in-depth interview with the man himself, as he goes over some of his more controversial tactics and discusses the difference between an exploit and creative use of game mechanics, as he had a bit of experience with the subject after being banned and unbanned for a solo kill he did (the 0.5 second Vectis kill).

There are some pretty cool discoveries he had to make about the boss mechanics to pull it off so it's definitely worth a watch:

Starting with next week's reset (March 31st/April 1st), all Legion instances will be getting legacy loot rules, aka more loot drops for when there's fewer players. This means you'll be getting random loot not specific to your class, but there will be plenty more of it for those transmog runs.

Check out the full explanation below:
      Legion Legacy Loot (source)
With scheduled weekly maintenance the week of March 31, we’re enabling Legacy loot rules in Legion raids and dungeons.
We’re reached that point in an expansion where the content from the previous expansion no longer requires a full group, and the rewards are primarily sought by transmog collectors. With this change, Legion raid and dungeon encounters will drop a fixed quantity of class-agnostic loot. Today, if you and one other player enter Emerald Nightmare on Mythic difficulty and kill Nythendra, it’s unlikely that you’ll receive any loot, since drop rates normally scale to the number of players. After this change, Nythendra will always drop 5 items from her loot table, regardless of your group size.
Dungeons and many of the lower-difficulty raid bosses in Legion are already soloable by well-equipped Battle for Azeroth characters, though some bosses, especially on Mythic difficulty, may still require you to bring a few friends. Nonetheless, this should amount to a great increase in the availability of Legion transmog gear.
      See you there!
