No Archaeology in Shadowlands

Recommended Posts

Archaeology, as we know it on Azeroth, does not exist in the Shadowlands, and there isn't anything planned for the profession in the new expansion either.

Researcher Au'daluk is a mob located in the Hall of Shapes in Oribos. The broker is researching ancient relics and wants you to join them. When you tell the broker that researching is basically archaeology, you find out that it does not exist in the Shadowlands.

Oof.   Though, if we're going to be honest the quasi profression never really did take off aside from when they offered decent epics in it.

It's probably not popular enough as it currently stands. I've only touched archaeology to get the moose mount, but that's it.

Perhaps it's better to just scrap it altogether, maybe introduce some funny mini game instead. Looks like currently they simply have no idea what to do with it.

Inscription would be great if they'd just put a little more effort into it. Currently each class has about half a dozen glyphs. Maybe a few more but limited by spec. They could probably double that number just by reusing the glyphs they've removed over time. And triple it by a few easy recolours of abilities.

Perhaps people should stop advocating for the removal of things just because, since that's how the game's gotten into the very poor state it's in.

Archaeology gives a good amount of vanity and quite a bit of content for collectors, whether that's getting a full set of pristine to decorate your bases or just going for every of the BoA epics that there are.

With that said, I am fine with the lack of additions to Archaeology. Just don't remove it.

The last sentence of the NPC feels more like a "secondary profession revamp in 9.2/9.3" spoiler to me. I liked the idea of Archeology but it just couldn't offer enough fun, was only any good to discover lore. They could turn into a Bejeweled-like minigame with permanent World Quests and all sites offering different puzzles.

No thank you, if we wanted to play bejeweled, I'd go play it... whilst the rune mini game in Naz is the ones I look for for speed, turning a whole proff into that seems a waste... revamp in 9.2/3 sounds ok though

Perphaps if they added more content like that people would be more inclined to try! I like doing archeology when the rewards are nice!

Watched a video on youtube last night and Bellular did bring up an interesting proposal for all proficiencies.  The introduction to housing in WoW.  Similar concept that is found in FFXIV where players can purchase plots of land, build a home, and decorate it with items that are already found in the game in the many art toolkits that are associated with each WoW expansion.

With archaeology the relics we obtain or be part of a bread crumb questline could entitle the player for an item to be used to decorate their ingame home with.  It's just food for thought but I would be down to have something like this added to the game.

Y'know what'd be really cool? If they used it as a way to get old unused mounts, transmog, the occasional toy, all that sort of stuff, into the game. Like literally digging into the past. ?

That'd still leave the awful, boring, activity itself. But I think that's always been the main problem. The rewards are cool, even if they're only rarely very cool. The lore is interesting and leaves you wanting more. The trouble is it's just dig, dig, dig. Different fragment type, same activity.

Normal professions avoid that by having multiple parts to completion (and, back when you were supposed to take a more active interest, that could be a whole lot of complicated parts).

i like to recommend the skeleton raptor as mount or Scimitar of the Sirocco which is a nice transmog (also there some funny toys)

That is such a good idea. Imagine if you could piece together the original tier 3 set from the nerubian digsites in Northrend. Or the digsites in the plaguelands.

There have been a number of cool mounts and pets through archeology. I am sorry there will not be anything new in Shadowlands, at least not in the beginning, but there is still plenty to do. It give me a break from the usual dailies and other grinds.

Blizzard have clarified why players are able to get a full Spark of Awakening through the two available Splinters in the first week of Dragonflight Season 4, and it seems it's only for this week and only due to catch-up rules being enabled!
      Splintered Spark (Source)
Just want to confirm this with some details.
Everyone essentially started Season 4 in catch-up mode. Players were able to get 1 Splintered Spark of Awakening from the weekly quest, whether that’s the weekly “Last Hurrah” quest or the PvP weeklies offered by Malicia.
And then you’re able to get another splinter / half-spark from any valid catch-up sources, such as Mythic+, Awakened Raids, and PvP wins.
Next week and thereafter, only one Splintered Spark is obtainable every week. And like Seasons 2 and 3, with the increasing cap on Splintered Sparks per week, and if you ever fall behind you will be able to get Splintered Sparks from any catch-up source.

It seems there may be an easier way to obtain the Tusks of Mannoroth appearance during the Mists of Pandaria Remix event!
The tusks are one of the rarest transmogs in the game currently, even with the recently added Siege of Orgrimmar skip, as their drop rates are VERY low (0.1-0.3%, reportedly). As spotted by MrGM, the new Tusks of Mannoroth are a cosmetic appearance item added in the new limited time event. Now, some have suggested they may just be purchasable from the Bronze vendor (the currency that will drop off of pretty much anything in the event), making them pretty easy to get, but it seems there might be a different way to get them.
It's unclear whether the cosmetic will actually be purchasable or if it will drop somewhere else, but another interesting Mannoroth-related item was added as well, the Bones of Mannoroth, which may be related to the cosmetic.

As you can see the bones are a stackable resource you gain from killing Garrosh, and it's looking like they're a way to guarantee the Tusk appearance with enough kills! Just how many drop is unclear, but assuming you need all 20 for the appearance and that Normal drops 1, Heroic 2 and Mythic 3 bones, it may take at least 7 weeks to get them. Now the number required might be/is likely to be lower than the 20  stack maximum, and we may get more bones per kill.
But even at 7 weeks it's much, much easier to get than the current "hope for 0.3%" in retail, so it's still a pretty good deal! This may or may not upset players that farmed for the tusks for a long time the regular way, but there's a whole lot players that will be thrilled!
The Remix: Mists of Pandaria event starts on May 16th and should last until August 19th.

Blizzard is retiring the WoW Companion app with the release of the War Within pre-patch.
      (Source)
With the release of The War Within™ pre-expansion content update, we will no longer support the WoW Companion App. After this date, players will not be able to update, download, or use the companion app and its features.
We want to thank everyone who has used the app as their companion for their adventures over the years!

If you plan on buying the physical War Within Collector's Edition and live in Europe, you're going to have a bad time!
Blizzard has ceased distributing WoW Collector's Editions through retailers with the release of Dragonflight, making the Blizzard Store the only place to buy them. However, the shipping costs could be a dealbreaker for many collectors eager to acquire the latest edition for the upcoming expansion.
Reddit user katamai from Serbia posted a screenshot of their order, revealing that the shipping fees exceed the cost of the box itself—280 Euros for shipping compared to 200 Euros for the box, totaling 480 Euros.

Additionally, Emi, a follower on our Facebook page, reported a shipping cost of 99 Euros to Romania, nearly ten times what it costs to ship to the UK.

A practical workaround might be to order the Collector's Edition to a UK address and then use a shipping service to forward it to your address in Europe, potentially saving a considerable amount of money.
How much does it cost to ship the box to your country?
