The Top 5 Least Impressive Mounts of the Shadowlands Expansion

Recommended Posts

It's time to look at my personal list of the Top 5 least impressive mounts of Shadowlands!

I also did a post on the Top 5 mounts coming in the new expansion, so check that out if you're looking for the direct opposite.

Disclaimer: Note that mounts are a preference thing, and it is perfectly natural if you disagree with my list. The art team is doing a terrific job, and the point of this article is to highlight mounts that are simply on the bottom list for me. Many factors came into play when I ranked the mounts. The main were recolors and reskins.

5. Court Sinrunner Court Sinrunner

Alliance players will probably appreciate another horse mount that you can buy at Exalted with the Court of Harvesters in Revendreth. We've seen many horses in Battle for Azeroth, which is why Court Sinrunner deserves the fifth place.

4. Arboreal Gulper Arboreal Gulper

The wood and foliage growing atop this toad is a natural part of its body, helping it siphon anima from the air to nourish itself.

The Ardenweald toad mount is a reskin of the BfA toad mounts (Green Marsh Hopper Green Marsh HopperBlue Marsh Hopper Blue Marsh Hopper, and Yellow Marsh Hopper Yellow Marsh Hopper) that you can buy for 333,333 gold in Nazmir. Although it slightly differs from the mounts in Battle for Azeroth, I don't know if players who spent so much gold on the mounts from Gottum will be happy if they see an easily available alternative, which also applies to the next contender.

3. Vicious War Spider Vicious War Spider (Alliance) & Vicious War Spider Vicious War Spider (Horde)

Many players that dished out 2 million gold for Bloodfang Cocoon Bloodfang Cocoon won't be particularly happy that the new Vicious mounts are spiders and share the same model.

When being a courageous member of the Alliance/Horde doesn't strike the right amount of fear into your opponent, add a giant spider.

2. Flying Unicorns

Six recolors of the Pureheart Courser Pureheart Courser (100 Exalted factions mount) and Lucid Nightmare Lucid Nightmare (Secret mount) have been added in the Shadowlands, so we decided to include the whole category here. At least they can fly in the Shadowlands pre-patch, right?

Shimmermist Runner Shimmermist Runner

Mischievous spriggans and the valerunners have a natural enmity. No valerunner would deign to allow a spriggan rider because they can sense their inherent malevolence. This angers the trickster spriggans who take twisted enjoyment in playing cruel pranks on these majestic creatures.

Swift Gloomhoof Swift Gloomhoof

The ballads of Ardenweald claim that the birth of gloomrunner heralds the passing of a particularly benevolent wild god. Seeing a gloomrunner is therefore a blessing and a curse.

Ascended Skymane Ascended Skymane

Only those that have proven themselves against the combined might of the Ascended will be able to ride this mount.

Dauntless Duskrunner Dauntless Duskrunner

The Path of Ascension is a challenging trial, and those that display all of the facets the Kyrian hold dear will be duly rewarded.

Sundancer Sundancer

This sun-dappled courser gallops on lightbeams with carefree abandon.

1. Slime Serpent Slime Serpent

This mysterious creature lurks beneath the slime pools of Plaguefall. No one knows where it came from.

The clear winner is the Slime Serpent mount that comes from Plaguefall, one of the new dungeons added in the Shadowlands expansion. It's a recolor of Black Serpent of N'Zoth Black Serpent of N'Zoth and Mail Muncher Mail Muncher.

Going to nitpick here, but...

1: The Vicious War Spiders are NOT the same Model as the Bloodfang Widow. They have extra armor on them, with extra spikes.

2: You listed 2 difficult to get Coursers (That's what the family is called right?), but keep in mind the first Courser was the Wild DreamrunnerWild Dreamrunner which merely requires you to grind WQs until you drop dead from repeated disappointment finally get it from the Paragon cache. You also have 3 different varieties - The Unarmored variety, the Saddled Variety (which is new), and the heavily Armored variety (For the Honor mount rewards).

3: Krag'wa and his spawn are NOT Toads. They are Frogs, thus the area they live in being called the Frogmarsh. The Arboreal Gulper is a Toad. Despite the similarites between Toads and Frogs, Toads are not Frogs and Frogs are NOT Toads! (The distinction between the two of them is very important, keep in mind that Frogs are far superior to the common Toad!)

That is all.

Because mount models have never been made more commonly available in later expansions. ?

I've seen a lot of criticism of the slime serpent, but I just don't agree. I thought the colours of the BFA ones were dislikable. I really like this one, to the point I might go out of my way to get it.

It still boggles my mind that they made a big part of the already lame 100 exalted reward to be entirely useless and unnoticed now. Who is going to actually be able to tell between the new glowy basic white courser and the old one?

Oh well. I wasn't going to use that mount regardless. Just seems odd that such an unbelievably time consuming achievement would have its reward copied and made insanely easy to get. Wild Dreamrunner ~20 paragon caches (the drop chance is 1/20 and it took me 26... so it took a LONG time to get), Lucid Nightmare and Pureheart Courser all take so much more effort to obtain which I figured was kind of the point. Make unicorns a pretty unique and rare thing to see as mounts.

I can definitely agree with the serpent recolour too. We already have enough of these and they are some of the worst mounts in the game. Especially considering their idle animation makes no sense as they don't have legs to scratch themselves with... *sigh*

EDIT* Oh, I forgot the Lucid Nightmare only takes like 8~ or so hours to get so it doesn't take all that much time, it does take a decent bit of effort to complete that maze now that they fixed the demon hunter double jump trick, but yeah, I guess that one is pretty easy to get.

Yeah I kind of like the color on this one.  I don't really like flying horses to much, especially as a pally main - I am horsed out already.

We'd like to introduce you to a game-changing nameplate addon for Season 4 that's essential for excelling in Mythic+ dungeons.
Tracking every mob and their abilities in Mythic+ can be overwhelming, but this addon excels by replacing standard mob nameplates and cast bars to enhance your gameplay.
Once installed, mobs with critical interrupts will display a thick orange cast bar, while less crucial ones will show a thinner yellow bar.

Mobs with less crucial interrupts will have a thinner yellow cast bar.

Additionally, any mobs that inflict heavy frontal cone damage are marked with an arrow and feature orange cast bars. A voice alert will also prompt you to move by announcing "front."

The addon further assists by indicating non-interruptible spells that require crowd control with a purple cast bar and a vocal "cc" alert.

For tanks, if you're not holding aggro, the nameplates of the mobs will turn red, quickly showing you which ones to target.

There's also a handy visual cue on the cast bar, surrounded by a green border, signaling when you can interrupt an ability and your interrupt skill is off cooldown.

      Ready to try it out?
You can download Quazii Plater here.
For setup assistance, watch Quazii's comprehensive video guide.
Quazii has also created a Mythic+ cheatsheet that details all critical abilities for Season 4 dungeons, available in a text format.

Players are currently unable to catalyze gear from the Black Temple Timewalking cache into class set piece.
It's unclear whether this limitation is a bug or an intended feature, but the gear obtained from completing this week's Black Temple Timewalking quest cannot be converted into a set piece using the Revival Catalyst, as reported on Reddit.
I personally checked this at Antuka and can confirm that gear from the weekly quest cache cannot be catalyzed. I received the Grips of Damnation from the Essence boss yesterday, and found that the item was ineligible for conversion at the Catalyst.

Here's how you can upgrade your legendary weapons in Dragonflight Season 4 next week!
This one is for Fyr'alath and Nasz'uro owners. You must first farm 2 Antique Bronze Bullions. However, you can only acquire 1 Antique Bronze Bullion per week from Awakened Raid bosses. The bullion will drop in Raid Finder difficulty too.
Next week, the cap will be raised to 2 and a catch-up method will be implemented, so players who didn't have the chance to get their first bullion can get it from the weekly quest in Valdrakken.
Anyway, the soonest you can upgrade your legendary to the base item level of 502 is during the week of April 30th (so next week).
Once you have 2 Antique Bronze Bullions, head to the Parting Glass in Valdrakken.

Evokers need to buy Scale of Awakening from Iszinormi for 2 Antique Bronze Bullions. Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors need to buy Scale of Awakening from Iszinormi for  2 Antique Bronze Bullions. Once purchased, use the consumable to upgrade your legendary to item level 502, the base item level for Season 4.
After that, you can further upgrade your legendary using Flightstones and crests. Check out our gear upgrading guide for more info!

Cache of Timewarped Treasures obtained from Black Temple Timewalking quest this week has a chance to contain Ashes of Al'ar!
Don't forget to complete this week's Timewalking raid! If you're having trouble getting into a group, create your own one, invite 2 tanks 4-5 healers and around 14 DPS and you are all set! Visit Shattrath, and talk to the Timewalking NPC to queue up for the raid.
The raid is extremely easy to compete and what's more, you get item level 493 loot along your way.
Upon defeating Illidan Stormrage and completing the quest, you will receive Cache of Timewarped Treasures that has an increased chance of containing Ashes of Al'ar or another piece of gear.
Demon Hunters shouldn't forget to get their warglaives transmog arsenal from Illidan and the reputation buff will help you add a couple of mounts to your collection!

Tama's Dragonflight Helper is a Weakaura that displays a weekly to-do list in the game and it's been updated for Dragonflight Season 4!
The WeakAura is very useful for keeping track of everything in the game at max level. It shows you a to-do list with the weekly tasks, provides you with the locations of rares, super rares, information about your current Renown standing, and more.

You will find Tama's Dragonflight Helper at wago.io. Please note that you must first download and install WeakAuras 2 to import the string.
