Shadow Priest 6.2

Recommended Posts

Having a rotation issue. The guide advises maintaining the dots on targets (boss). I have tried this and have found dps lacking. I have watched other SP in raid and some don't bother with pain and vampiric touch at all. Essentially they use Blast, Mind Spike, Mind Flay and Devouring Plague. They use Mind Spike as a filler.

This is just basic rotation, not counting special abilities.

I have compared the two on the target dummy in garrison and in raid and not using dots actually does significantly more damage.  Why would that be?

Clarity of Power is a level 100 talent that increases the damage dealt by a number of your abilities IF you don't have SWLPain or Vampiric Touch on that target.  It's possible that you were using this talent when maintaining your DoTs which would cause you to not benefit from the increased damage.

"The Shadow specialisation is currently able to deal medium to medium-high single target damage and high AoE damage, in PvE encounters. It presents players with a rotation that is both easy to understand and easy to master.

The Shadow Priest playstyle is very reliant on DoTs, and this means that they also do very well in situations where they can multi-DoT several targets."

Um no? I have been playing this class for many years. It is neither easy to learn nor easy to master particularly when you compare this class to hunters and mages. I know this because I Raid with both of those classes as well.  These alts are a thousand times easier to play and effortlessly generate copious amount of dps in comparison. Nice to check a guide and the first claim you see is totally bogus. Twintops approved this??? Either this "guide" is out-dated or Twintops has lost touch with reality.

Only AS is reliant on massive DOTs, but CoP which is the "spec" almost all top Spriests are using these days only uses one dot (devouring plague) and that is just to weave in insanity between MBs and MSs. VT and SW:P never get touched unless you want to throw out an instant SW:P when you're about to be on the move for an extended period of time.

Furthermore, Spriest AOE can be described as mediocre since the DP nerf when compared with the aforementioned classes specially with Mythic on farm. The only time a Shadow Priest can really shine is on Council playing AS or Fel Lord Zakuun and the Iron Reaver play CoP and that's ONLY if you get the CoP rotation utterly perfect.

"easy to understand and master" my foot!

Nobody dot weaves anymore. Check all the top Spriests. They only weave in DP for insanity. SW:P only gets used if you're going to be on the move for an extended period of time like Mannoroth when you get feared. This is what your rotation should look like when you have the 4 set and RoW.

MB and MS as filler until 3 orbs (never EVER miss an MB and do your best to keep the trinket up at all times)

MS
DP
Insanity (2 ticks)
MB
Insanity (4 ticks)
MS
MB

Don't miss an MB or Insanity weave for SW:D unless you're desperate for orbs.

Cache of Timewarped Treasures obtained from Black Temple Timewalking quest this week has a chance to contain Ashes of Al'ar!
Don't forget to complete this week's Timewalking raid! If you're having trouble getting into a group, create your own one, invite 2 tanks 4-5 healers and around 14 DPS and you are all set! Visit Shattrath, and talk to the Timewalking NPC to queue up for the raid.
The raid is extremely easy to compete and what's more, you get item level 493 loot along your way.
Upon defeating Illidan Stormrage and completing the quest, you will receive Cache of Timewarped Treasures that has an increased chance of containing Ashes of Al'ar or another piece of gear.
Demon Hunters shouldn't forget to get their warglaives transmog arsenal from Illidan and the reputation buff will help you add a couple of mounts to your collection!

Tama's Dragonflight Helper is a Weakaura that displays a weekly to-do list in the game and it's been updated for Dragonflight Season 4!
The WeakAura is very useful for keeping track of everything in the game at max level. It shows you a to-do list with the weekly tasks, provides you with the locations of rares, super rares, information about your current Renown standing, and more.

You will find Tama's Dragonflight Helper at wago.io. Please note that you must first download and install WeakAuras 2 to import the string.

Cataclysm's Grim Batol has been added to the Mythic+ Dungeon rotation in The War Within Season 1, and one boss received a brand new model recently on the Alpha.
General Umbriss, the first boss of the dungeon, got a shiny new model, which is quite different from his previous one. Below is a screenshot of the old a new model.

Blizzard have clarified why players are able to get a full Spark of Awakening through the two available Splinters in the first week of Dragonflight Season 4, and it seems it's only for this week and only due to catch-up rules being enabled!
      Splintered Spark (Source)
Just want to confirm this with some details.
Everyone essentially started Season 4 in catch-up mode. Players were able to get 1 Splintered Spark of Awakening from the weekly quest, whether that’s the weekly “Last Hurrah” quest or the PvP weeklies offered by Malicia.
And then you’re able to get another splinter / half-spark from any valid catch-up sources, such as Mythic+, Awakened Raids, and PvP wins.
Next week and thereafter, only one Splintered Spark is obtainable every week. And like Seasons 2 and 3, with the increasing cap on Splintered Sparks per week, and if you ever fall behind you will be able to get Splintered Sparks from any catch-up source.
