Elemental Shaman 6.2

I use echo of the elements as I find that is nice to cast 2-4 lava bursts in a row, this means you get good sustained dps. I was wondering if you could test that Damien. The procs are not very random and I find this synergises well with elemental fusion and by using 2 lava bursts at around 17 stacks of LS you don't need to cast lightning bolt to get all your stacks.

Hello everyone

First off, thank you for the guide and the helpful comments. I have two things to ask. First, I want to get some clarification about the use of earthquake in the single target rotation; are we still using that when we get to lvl 100? You mentioned that when you get more multistrike it becomes not worth it to cast, is there a certain "magic number" to simplify this? Also, will the elemental blast talent no longer be beneficial at higher item levels because wouldn't the buff from the talent put you over 100% in some of the secondary stats it buffs? At that point would it be better to go with Unleashed Fury?

I hope these questions are clear,

Thank you for any feedback you can offer

Hi, great guide!

Im just wondering, now with the 10% damage increase on Elemental Blast, is it more viable than the others, or is it still just as good as the others?

It remains mostly the same, because you cast Elemental Blast for the stat buff it provides, not for the raw damage it deals smile.png

How is Crit even viable? Forgive my ignorance, it just feels slow and clumsy. I read somewhere that Lava Burst had a internal chance on crit to produce another multistrike? Surely haste or even mastery is better? (sorry been away for ages and sooooo out of the loop)

According to SimC, it has the same value as Haste.

Why do mastery and haste keep moving around in the priority list? I'm already trying to fit crit into my gearing style despite every other expansion ever, and I just need to know whether I can be happy with some haste or if I should swap it to mastery if possible. They keep switching places on the list.

Computing stat priorities is not an exact science. First, there is the tool that we use, SimulationCraft, which often gets updated and bug fixes can sometimes slightly change the values of stats. Second, Blizzard applies hotfixes to the game every week and some of them change stat priorities. This is what happened with the recent change in the priority.

you should put at the minor glyph section the glyph: ''Glyph of Gostly speed''

It's amazing good, it can be used everywhere except bg and arena.

It gives you total 190% running speed!! (only when cast out of combat)

Done smile.png

Why is earthquake still in the single target rotation?

I'm removing it from the rotation. It is a DPS gain in some situations, but the conditions that enable these situations are so complex that I have trouble understanding them. Purge tried several times to explain them to me, but we never managed to produce something comprehensible. So, I think that it is less confusing to simply remove Earthquake from the single-target rotation.

I just reactivated my shaman from the early WotLK days and I'm a bit cofused about Fulmination:

the guide says I should stack to 17 / 20, but my stacks cap at 15.

Does this change at 100, did I forget to glyph something, or is the guide in that case simply not up to date?

Thx for any answer that would help smile.png

One of the leveling perks you will get while levelling up to 100 will grant you 5 extra stacks.

I can't quite figure out if it's worth using earthquake in my singletarget rotation :/ Because it only does 5366 physical dmg over 10 sec with a 2.15 sec cast, while lightning bolt does 8893 nature dmg with a 1.72 sec cast? I'm just thinking with unleashed fury procced too, the earthquake will never do as much dmg as a lightning bolt would.

See above.

Echo of the Elements is not bad, but it is about 1% behind in terms of single-target DPS, which is why we don't advise people to take it.

See above for Earthquake.

You are correct about Elemental Blast, but we are a long way from this happening smile.png

Just to let you all know, if you have elemental blast talented, it consumes your unleash flame prior to your fire shock during the opening rotation.

Why is the Elemental guide approved by a person who isn't even playing elemental and apparently has no idea what he's doing with it this expansion? Everything about it has been horridly wrong including rotations and stat weights. Can you either fix it or take it down please. It's absurd to have this as a knowledge base for people to come here and look at.

He's the person who maintains the SimC profiles for Elemental Shamans (in addition to being one of the top Enhancement Shamans). I trust him. Now, if you can point things out, I will give it a look, but your comment is too vague for me to do anything about it.

Hey, Can I help in updating this guide. It's got some issues.

For example, your tier 7 talent assessment is completely incorrect. Liquid Magma does more damage than the other two talents, even on single target fights. Especially when you factor in procs from multistrike needing to be used on fulmination, you sometimes get to use the 80% buff from Elemental Fusion, but probably 1/3 of the time you're actually only going to get a 40% buff. Even with E.F. 80% flameshock increase at 100% uptime, Liquid Magma still does more damage when used on cooldown, on single target fights, and especially when there are more than 1 target, stacked.

As a second example, you shouldn't use Unleash Flame to buff your flame shock. It's a straight DPS increase to use Unleash Flame to buff a Lava Burst, over Flameshock.

As a third example, the stat priority explanations aren't explanations at all. I can write explanations for you.

Hi Ryan, I'm afraid I can't speak to the specifics of your message (I'm the Resto reviewer), but Damien checks this thread regularly and will undoubtedly take a look at your suggestions. Thank you for this constructive feedback, and I expect Damien will either have already discussed something like this or will be able to discuss these points with a third party reviewer.

As a third example, the stat priority explanations aren't explanations at all. I can write explanations for you.

Unfortunately, this is not so constructive. If you could explain why you feel that the stat priority discussion in the guide is insufficient, then that would be lovely. Bear in mind, though, that this is designed to be easily digestible and therefore we tend not to go into long explanations.

Finally, I have removed your email address from your post. In future, please send a Personal Message with such details instead. We do not recommend putting your personal contact details in forum thread replies.

I think these would be better for stat explanations:

Intellect is your primary stat. You should look for this stat in all of your upgrades. It provides you with Spell Power, which increases the damage of your spells.

Multistrike causes your abilities to have an increased chance to hit/heal a second and a third time, each time dealing 30% of the initial damage/heal.

Multistrike is your most important stat. Thanks to your Elemental Overload passive, you have a base amount of 20% multistrike and your multistrike damage is increased by 35%. It means that your multistrikes deal 40.5% of the damage of your attacks, instead of only 30% for other classes. Also, multistrikes with Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning grant charges of Lightning Shield, thanks to Fulmination. Multistrike also increase your chance to proc Lava Surge. This explains why Multistrike is so important for Elemental Shamans.

Critical Strike increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities. Your Lava Burst also has a third multistrike chance, the third chance being equal to your critical strike chance.

Haste influences the cast speed of your spells and the number of ticks of your Flame Shock to increase your chance to proc Lava Surge; and Earthquake.

Mastery increases the damage that Mastery: Molten Earth Icon Mastery: Molten Earth and Earthquake Icon Earthquake do.

Versatility is a flat-out damage done increase and damage taken reduction.

SimC is not using Elemental Fusion optimally, yet it still performs better than Liquid Magma for single-target.

Same for your comment on the opener. It doesn't make a real difference if you consume your Unleash Flame with Flame Shock or Lava Burst.

If you have results to back up your claims, I'd happily review them.

Multistrike also increase your chance to proc Lava Surge

How?

I added your stuff about the 3rd Multistrike for Lava Burst.

Thanks for your comments.

Can anyone explain, why crit is ranked that high?

Most of my damage comes from Lava Burst and since Lava Burst always crits, the crit stat does nothing for your bread&butter spell. How come it ranks that high?

Because it gives you 1 more chance to multistrike (only on lava burst)

Hello,

is there any Multistrike, Crit and/or Haste cap or soft-cap?

Thank you.

Not that I can tell.

Then update the rotation to the one suggested in SimC... finally, please.

And add some notes about T17.

Currently this guide isn't awesome.

This time around, our reviewer is Arold, the currently top Elemental Shaman on warcraftlogs: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/rankings/7#boss=-1

He suggested no change to the rotation we have on the website. And before him, purge never suggested we should change it. Now, if you have anything to back up your claim, then I would be more than happy to look into things, but saying the guide is not awesome, when experts of the spec find very little to say about it, is not helping.

Thanks, this guide helped me catch up with stats and priorities :)

However, the talk about Thunderstorm really puzzles me. There are three concerns about how you talk about it as a good AoE DPS cooldown.

1) There's almost no consideration given to the fact that the knockback is EXTREMELY disruptive to everyone's DPS and definitely isn't going to make the pack die faster. You say the minor glyph "may be useful", but it is absolutely mandatory if you want to use Thunderstorm like this, and that should be mentioned in the AoE section too. Before anyone follows that advice and gets raged on.

2) I don't think you give the utility of a properly timed knockback enough credit. Now this may not apply much to raids but in a challenge mode or any other smaller group challenging content I wouldn't dream of using it for its damage when it can buy so much breathing space if a pull becomes overwhelming.

3) EQ and CL can be used from a distance, TS can not, and I think the fact you need to work your way into and out of melee range and the risks that may bring should be given a mention.

I am glad the guide helped you, but I think you are nit-picking here. Everything you say is valid, but I don't see the point of going through such depth to describe an ability that so rarely sees play.

This guide lists inv_60legendary_ring1c.jpgMaalus, the Blood Drinker as our ring, but as far as I understand, that's the agi dps ring. Shouldn't we be taking inv_60legendary_ring1e.jpgNithramus, the All-Seer instead?

You are right. Not sure how I wrote that, but I did and I will fix it immediately. Thank you smile.png

Today's hotfixes are still very Plunderstorm-heavy, but we do get fixes for more achievement-related mount issues and PvP catch-up, in addition to the limited time event's adjustments.
      March 27 (Source)
      Achievements
Fixed bugs causing mounts related to A World Awoken to be unavailable, including Bestowed Ottuk Vanguard, Bestowed Trawling Mammoth, Bestowed Thunderspine Packleader, Bestowed Sandskimmer, Bestowed Ohuna Spotter, Coralscale Salamanther, Stormtouched Bruffalon, and Taivan. Player versus Player
Fixed an issue that prevented Splintered Sparks of Dreams from dropping from PvP sources while eligible for catch-up. Plunderstorm
The Storm’s fury swells! Lightning strikes during the final stage of the Storm are faster and more dangerous than before. There is now a delay of 20 seconds after being revived where players no longer drop collected Plunder. Additional enemies now spawn at Witherbark Village, the wild area northeast of Go’Shek Farm, and the wild area between Witherbark Village and Boulderfist Hall. Fixed an issue where swapping back to default sword and gun appearances were not saving correctly. Fixed an issue so that now, picking up an additional rank 2 spell while the same rank 2 spell is equipped properly grants the rank 4 version of the spell. The Captain’s Orders quest “X Marks the Spot” now requires 1 item to be picked up (was 2 items).
    • By Staff
Well that didn't take long! We found out someone had broken the 700,000 Plunder milestone yesterday evening, and we're already done with the full amount now! Soularpower_ managed to grind it out a couple of hours ago in duos, and grabbed the Plunderkind achievement, so huge congratulations! It's been a week and a day since the event was released, and despite there being plenty of Plunder drop buffs since then it's still great to see someone get it all done already.

Unsurprisingly, the first thing Soularpower_ after reaching that goal was... play more Plunderstorm! He's actually still at it if now you want to check the stream out.

Here's our first post-patch look at the Mythic+ log rankings. While the patch didn't really touch any of the DPS or tank specs, there's still some movement there, especially in the raw DPS chart. Healers got some solid changes in the patch, and the definitely had an effect.
      Warcraft Logs Points
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
      All Keys
      95th percentile DPS
The top percentiles are extremely stable, which makes sense since the patch didn't really bring any significant changes for DPS specs. We have to go down to number 7 to see the first bit of movement, as Destruction moves two up, leaving its fellow Warlock down in 9th, as Arms gets between them, gaining 3 spots. Havoc closes out the top 10 three down, and right behind it we find the newly buffed Elemental moving three up. While Augmentation is being properly calculated, we still find an Evoker in the bottom 3, as Devastation drops one down and takes Marksmanship's place.

Mythic+ All Keys 95th Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      All Percentiles
It took Shadow a little longer to get into the top in the generalist bracket, as we find it in 3rd now, pushing Outlaw down one. Balance also moves up, 2 spots into 6th, as it and Arms take advantage of Havoc's fall. The Demon Hunter finds itself 3 down in 9th, while Fury remains stable at the very end of the top 10.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Raw DPS U.GG DPS Rankings
U.gg's rankings are based on actual DPS taken from Warcraft Logs data, focusing on the top players and span the past two weeks.
While Outlaw remains at the top, pretty much everything's changing beneath it. Shadow and Retribution joined forces and moved two up together, breaking into the top 3. Fire is also on the rise, gaining 3 spots, and right behind it we find another big leaper, as Arms moves a whopping 5 spots up.
Mythic+ All Keystone DPS rankings by u.gg.

      All Percentiles Tank (Points)
There's actually some solid movement here, as we see Paladin take 2nd away from DK and Druid take Monk down, with Warrior remaining in last place and DH being far ahead of the pack.
Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.
      Healer (Points)
Healers had some significant changes with the patch, but it hasn't stopped Monk from remaining at the top. Druid moves into 2nd, taking Discipline Priest down a peg, and it seems the Holy Priest patch reworks helped it out, as it gains a spot in 4th.

Mythic+ All Keys All Percentile Data by Warcraft Logs.

For even more in-depth data for each individual key head on over to Warcraft Logs and u.gg. And if you're interested in more info on the specs themselves you can always check out our class guides, as well as our Mythic+ guides and Mythic+ tier list.

In Dragonflight Season 4, Awakened/Fated raids will be on a weekly rotation.
Upon accessing the Adventure Guide and navigating to the Raids section, you'll notice a green gem icon beside the raid that's Awakened for the current week.

When a raid is Awakened, bosses are more powerful and loot drops are upgraded to a higher item level. The upcoming season revisits the Fated system introduced in Shadowlands Season 4.
