With the launch of Genshin Impact Version 5.7, the game’s official patch notes have confirmed something many players had been speculating for months: both Paimon and Keqing have received English voice actor replacements.
While hints about these changes had circulated in beta leaks and through subtle database updates, Version 5.7 marks the first time HoYoverse has formally updated the casting. Keqing’s new voice credit has been changed to list “Kayli Mills & Anonymous” on the official HomDGCat database, implying that a different actor is now handling either partial or complete dialogue duties-most likely tied to her appearance in the new Traveler Anecdotes event.
New Paimon VA Examples
The bigger change, however, is with Paimon, our Traveler’s ever-present companion. Although HoYoverse has not named the new VA, players have quickly pointed out the difference in her Cadence.
Reddit user Wasauserbefore posted a quick spoiler-free line from Paimon’s new voices.
The new voice retains Paimon’s signature feel but with a slightly softer, less shrill delivery. Many fans have praised it as a welcome return to her more tolerable Version 1.0 tone, before the character became increasingly high-pitched and exaggerated in later patches.
Why the Change Happened
Officially speaking. this shift follows statements from Corina Boettger, Paimon’s original English voice actress, who confirmed recently that they would not return to Genshin Impact unless the game became union-supported. This left the door open for a recast, and it now appears HoYoverse has begun rolling that out with Version 5.7.
While we cannot confirm for certain, the timing is incredibly unlikely that this was the real situation. We recently reported on the interview where Corina stated this just a few weeks ago making the timeline next to impossible to be able to hire a new VA, especially one that sounds so similar, and then do a patch’s worth of lines.
While it may be that the ultimatum was presented by Corina shortly after, or even before 5.6’s recording began, and then quickly thrown out of the window by HoYo. Occam’s Razor suggests that the simpler explanation with fewer assumptions should be used, and therefore that Corina was simply fired for the harassment, drama, and crashouts on twitter. All of which are incredibly unprofessional.
