“So uh, did anyone else’s Sumeru City disappear?”
That’s how Reddit user u/Iskaru begins their unusual journey through what was once the bustling green heart of Sumeru. In an unexpected twist of fate (and probably a glitch in the Matrix… or Mihoyo’s engine), the entire city simply vanished: geometry, buildings, stairs, NPCs, everything was gone.
What followed? Naturally, a brave expedition into the architectural void.
When Sumeru Vanishes, You Go Exploring
After teleporting to the usual waypoint near Katheryne, the player was met with an odd version of Sumeru City: floating terrain fragments, invisible walls, and ghostly outlines where structures once stood. Rather than panic, or immediately reload, they did what any true Traveler would do: hit record and dive into the chaos. You can take a look at the footage here:
The expedition took them:
- Into the depths of Lower Sumeru City (or what was left of it)
- On a climb to the top of the glitched world
- Past a few stray chests still waiting to be looted (because treasure respects no bugs)
- Into a mysterious flying pond
- And finally, into the ever-reliable Lambad’s Tavern, which, thankfully, survived the snap.
So… What Happened?
No one’s quite sure. The post doesn’t provide any specific trigger for the bug, just a casual teleport and poof, the city was gone.
Fortunately, reloading the area brought everything back to normal, suggesting this was a rare rendering or loading issue. Still, players in the thread couldn’t help but joke about Kaveh’s questionable architectural choices finally catching up with him.
“Kaveh got his hands on the city plans again. This is what happens.” – basically everyone in the comments.

Bugs in Genshin: A Feature?
Genshin Impact is no stranger to bizarre bugs, from Yeeting Paimon into space to walking on water, and now, urban-level disappearances. While these glitches are often harmless, they sometimes lead to unexpectedly beautiful or hilarious moments, like this one.
It’s a reminder that even in a game like Genshin, the occasional rendering anomaly can give you a front-row seat to the backstage of Teyvat!
