Orange's Summer World Championship Highlander Priest Deck

Last updated on Oct 17, 2017 at 13:16 by Pesty 14 comments

Table of Contents

This variant of Highlander Priest aims to assemble its combo of Shadowreaper Anduin and Raza the Chained faster than any other variant. It uses Gadgetzan Auctioneer to gain additional bursts of card draw in the mid-game. It was used as part of Orange's lineup to finish second place at the 2017 Summer Championship.

3. Comments On The Variation

This variant contains a few small changes to help improve its matchup against other slower decks, such as Jade Druid and other Highlander Priest decks.

The biggest change in this variant is the addition of Gadgetzan Auctioneer in place of Lyra the Sunshard. Although the cards function very similarly, the fact Gadgetzan Auctioneer draws cards instead of generating means that it allows two key cards, Raza the Chained and Shadowreaper Anduin, to to be drawn much faster. The drawback of this is that the deck ends up having much fewer playable cards overall without Lyra, making running out of cards and dying to fatigue more likely.

This variant also contains additional tech cards in the form of Auchenai Soulpriest, Circle of Healing, and Wild Pyromancer. These cards provide additional AoE effects to help deal with more aggressive decks while also providing more potential card draw when used in combination with Northshire Cleric or Acolyte of Pain.

3.1. Pros and Cons

This variant aims to be as streamlined as possible in order to assemble its powerful game-ending combo. This makes it much better positioned against decks that rely on their late-game strength to end the game. However, there is a lack of anti-Aggro tools such as Golakka Crawler and weapon removal, opening up a slight weakness to most Aggro decks.

3.2. Quick Mulligan Guide

As a Highlander deck you should be looking for powerful cards such as Kazakus and Raza the Chained in your opening hand in every matchup.

Against Aggro decks you should look for additional tools to help contest the early-game board, such as Northshire Cleric, Holy Smite, Potion of Madness, Shadow Word: Pain. and Wild Pyromancer if you have The Coin.

Against slower decks you should mulligan much more aggressively to try and get Shadowreaper Anduin in your opening hand in addition to Raza and Kazakus.
