Wild Kingsbane Rogue Deck List Guide - Rise of Shadows April 2019
This guide contains detailed strategy, mulligan, and deck-building information to help you improve your Kingsbane Rogue play for The Rastakhan's Rumble meta.
Kingsbane Rogue is a unique deck that arose from the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion. The deck is heavily reliant upon the Kingsbane weapon, which is used as an evergrowing source of damage and healing. The weapon is primarily used to control the board throughout the game to grind down opponent's resources and force them out of the game once they are no longer able to contest the board.
Following the balance adjustments to Leeching Poison, Wild Kingsbane Rogue is no longer viable at a high level in the Standard format. However, it remains a very solid deck in the Wild meta.

Kingsbane Rogue is heavily reliant on Kingsbane and your Mulligan will primarily focus on obtaining it and early buffs to make it a threat as quickly as possible.
You should Mulligan aggressively to ensure you have Kingsbane, Cavern Shinyfinder, or Raiding Party in your opening hand. If you already have one of these cards, you can additionally look for Deadly Poison or Toxicologist. If you specifically have Raiding Party, you can also keep Preparation.
Against Aggro, you can additionally keep early removal like Doomerang.
In the early game, you should focus on getting your Kingsbane equipped as soon as possible. This will usually involve playing it directly, or drawing it via Cavern Shinyfinder if you do not yet have it available. Once it is equipped, you should try and use small buffs like Toxicologist, Cutthroat Buccaneer and Deadly Poison to get its Attack high enough to be able to handle all early-game threats.
Before playing buffs, you should consider both whether the buff is necessary at this stage of the game and if there are any better moves available. For example, during the first 3 turns, a single Deadly Poison to create a 3-Attack weapon is enough to kill almost any minion. If you have a second Deadly Poison available, it is often better to make more Mana efficient plays such as playing a Cutthroat Buccaneer or Raiding Party. The impact of this line puts you in a better position for future turns and allows the Deadly Poison to be used with Valeera the Hollow.
During the mid-game turns, you will be looking to generate resources for yourself and try to keep the board under control for the late game. You should be using your Kingsbane almost exclusively to remove your opponent's minions as attacking your opponent directly will yield very little at this stage. If there is minimal pressure being applied, you can go ahead and continue drawing cards using Raiding Party and bolster your board with Captain Greenskin. If there are multiple threats on the board, you should focus on using additional removal tools in addition to your weapon to keep the board under control.
The removal spells in the deck all function very differently, making it very important to use the right tool for the job. Against a board containing a small number of powerful minions, Walk the Plank, Sap, and Doomerang can be used as single-target removal. It is generally best to use Walk the Plank first as it is the most expensive card and is usually the hardest to get out of your hand. Sap should be considered next. It is best used if your opponent has a full hand or if the target is a high enough Cost that it will slow your opponent down significantly to replay it. Doomerang should be considered last as it gains more and more value as your Kingsbane gets buffed and will also gain offer healing from Leeching Poison. It should generally be used if it can kill a large threat in one hit or your weapon is low on durability and you do not have another weapon draw in your hand.
In addition to single-target removal, the deck also contains Blade Flurry and Vanish to deal with wide boards. They should be used as a last resort and the process for determining which one should use is the same as choosing between Doomerang and Sap. If you are able to fill your opponent's hand, then Vanish may be able to kill any minions that your opponent cannot hold. If this is not possible, then Blade Flurry is usually the better option. However, as it becomes more effective as your Kingsbane becomes stronger throughout the game, it should be used as late into the game as possible.
When it comes to winning the game, there is no predefined time this happens in the deck, but you will eventually be able to overpower your opponent with your weapon over time. A general turning point for games is when you are able to play Valeera the Hollow. The passive Stealth generated by the card will usually provide you with the time to compose yourself after any pressure your opponent has put on prior. You will usually want to follow Valeera the Hollow up with a board clear such as Vanish or Blade Flurry before beginning to use Shadow Reflection in combination with buffs from Captain Greenskin, Cutthroat Buccaneer, and Deadly Poison to allow your weapon to reach a critical mass. From this point on, you can indefinitely pressure your opponent and avoid fatigue damage by using Shadow Reflection or Dagger Mastery to destroy your Kingsbane each turn so that you always have a card in your deck.
Kingsbane Rogue is a fairly flexible deck and has a range of cards that can be included to suit your playstyle.

- Avoid using Vanish and Blade Flurry until absolutely necessary.
- Avoid using weapon buffs that are not absolutely necessary until you have played Valeera the Hollow.
