Wild Odd Paladin Deck List Guide - Rise of Shadows April 2019
This guide contains detailed strategy, mulligan, and deck-building information to help you improve your Odd Paladin play for The Rastakhan's Rumble meta.
Odd Paladin is a powerful Hearthstone deck that arose in the Witchwood expansion. It uses cards that only have odd Mana Costs in order to gain access to the powerful effect of the Baku the Mooneater card throughout the game. Baku will provide the The Silver Hand Hero Power, providing you with a strong source of Silver Hand Recruits (also known as Dudes) throughout the game. Odd Paladin primarily aims to turns Dudes into large threats if opponents are not able to keep them in check. The overall playstyle of the deck shares a lot of similarities with Even Paladin and Dude Paladin.
Odd Paladin has not gained any new cards in the Rastakhan's Rumble expansion. However, as a strong Aggro deck, it is well positioned to perform well in the early days of the meta by preying on much less refined decks.
Despite the recent Odd Paladin changes causing the deck to initially see no play, the deck has seen a huge resurgence in popularity, proving Level Up! was not needed for the deck to be successful.

Odd Paladin has a very different mulligan strategy to other decks, as the improved Hero Power created by Baku the Mooneater will make you want to Hero Power as much as possible to maximise the number of Silver Hand Recruits at your disposal.
To supplement the constant Hero Power usage, you should be look to keep a good number of 1-Mana plays like Argent Squire, Righteous Protector, Fire Fly, and Lost in the Jungle in your opening hand. If your opponent is playing a class that commonly plays Control decks, like Warlock or Warrior, you can additionally keep a copy of Divine Favor in your hand.
During the early turns you should try to establish board control using strong 1-drops like Fire Fly, Argent Squire, and Righteous Protector. Once you have one of these minions on board, they can be additionally buffed by Acherus Veteran to become efficient tools for trading. You should also try and weave in the The Silver Hand Hero Power as often as possible to strengthen the board while also preserving cards.
Going into Turns 3 and 4, you should look to compound any board presence you have been able to establish. This can be done with either Righteous Protector or Stonehill Defender to protect your board. Alternatively, you can use Raid Leader or Unidentified Maul to buff any minions you already have on the board. Whether or not you choose to play Unidentified Maul will also depend greatly upon the type of Maul you receive. For example, Purifier's Maul and Blessed Maul are great if you have a wide board, Champion's Maul is a good tool for helping you expand your board, and Sacred Maul is nearly always only useful for the stats of the weapon itself.
Turn 5 onward is when Odd Paladin starts to become really threatening and Cobalt Scalebane and Fungalmancer are key 5-Mana cards at this stage of the game. Due to the huge boost in tempo both of these cards offer, it is often tempting to play these cards immediately, but it can often be more beneficial to hold onto them. Most opponents will hold back AoE effects like Brawl and Hellfire in anticipation of tempo plays. If you are in control of the board, you should just make full use of the value of your Hero Power and chip away at your opponent's Health instead. This will help you achieve one of two things; either you will force your opponent to waste resources clearing your Dudes or you will set up a position where you are simply able to burst your opponent down with the additional stats from your buff cards. The exception to this is against Tempo Mage decks that are able to deal 1 point of damage to multiple targets with Cinderstorm and Arcane Missiles. In this matchup specifically, you should buff our board as soon as possible so that your board is less vulnerable to single points of damage.
You should be looking to be the aggressor in almost every matchup and the deck contains many cards that greatly support it. Raid Leader allows you to greatly capitalise on a wide board by doubling the Attack value of any unbuffed Dudes you have on the board. Blessing of Might represents an efficient source of burst damage that you can either try to stick on a minion with Divine Shield in order to get value from the buff over multiple turns or as burst damage to close out games. Similarly, Leeroy Jenkins is an excellent source of burst damage that can be used to win games and can be very potent when paired with Blessing of Might. With Leeroy in hand, you should keep track of how much burst damage you have in your hand and assess how easy it is for you to get your opponent's Health down to that amount. Having Divine Favor in hand is often the most important factor when deciding if you should be aggressive. If you are likely to fall short on damage, it will allow you to refill you hand and either continue your aggression or simply return to a relatively neutral position within the game.
Heading into the late game, you will gain access to a new powerful tool, Vinecleaver. Vinecleaver is a card that serves two main purposes. Firstly, as a weapon it can be used to remove minions played by your opponent and provide extra damage to finish off your opponent. Secondly, it is a great source of Silver Hand Recruits, which allows you to generate 4 per turn when used in combination with your Hero Power, to get massive value out of Raid Leader if you still have a copy available.
Odd Paladin is quite a flexible deck outside of the core Dude package. There are many options available that synergise with the flooding ability of the deck and some suggestions are listed below:
- Raid Leader and Boisterous Bard fill the same card slot and are interchangeable.
- Witch's Cauldron can also be used as an alternative to Divine Favor to provide more consistent hand refill against Aggro decks.
- Glacial Shard can be included over Acherus Veteran or Fire Fly as a great way to stall decks that rely on big minions like Mountain Giant or Spiteful Summoner.
- Ironbeak Owl can be included if you regularly find yourself struggling against big Taunt minions.
- Void Ripper can be used as alternative way to deal with big Taunt minions, such as Spreading Plague and Mosh'Ogg Enforcer.
Quick Tips and Tricks
- Try and use The Silver Hand as often as possible. Doing so will not only save you cards, but force your opponent to fear cards like Raid Leader.
- Be aware of what AoE effects your opponent's class has available. It can often worth sacrificing a cheap minion rather than losing Health or Divine Shield in a stronger one to better protect yourself against board clears.
- Stonehill Defender and Righteous Protector are excellent tools and protecting your board and stalling opponents.
- You can afford to be much more aggressive if you have Divine Favor in your hand.
