General Information

Below, we give you a brief overview of the abilities that Raynor has access to. You should read these ability descriptions before reading further, because the other pages of the guide assume that you have a basic knowledge of Raynor's abilities.

About the Author

1. Penetrating Round

Deals 240 (+4% per level) damage and knocks enemies back.

Penetrating Round Icon Penetrating Round deals a large amount of damage to all enemies in a straight line and also knocks them back.

Penetrating Round Icon Penetrating Round fulfills a variety of purposes. This enables Raynor to use it both defensively and offensively. If used defensively, this ability is capable of knocking enemy initiators back from Raynor, which allows him to reposition himself. If used offensively, Penetrating Round serves as an excellent bullying tool, which allows Raynor to dominate his lane.

During the laning phase, Penetrating Round acts as a solid form of waveclear capable of damaging an entire Minion Wave as they walk in a file towards you. Keep in mind that this ability can also damage several enemy Structures at the same time if used from a proper angle.

2. Inspire

Gain 30% bonus Attack Speed for 6 seconds. Nearby allies gain half of the bonus.

Inspire Icon Inspire increases Raynor's attack speed by 30% for 6 seconds. Nearby allies gain half of the bonus. This ability affects friendly Heroes, Minions, and Mercenaries.

Inspire Icon Inspire is a very impactful ability, as it buffs not only Raynor's attack speed but that of every nearby ally as well, including Minions and Mercenaries. This causes it to be particularly useful during team fights and pushes. Keep in mind that once activated, Inspire works like an aura, meaning it affects allies as long as they remain in its area of effect.

What really makes Inspire one of Raynor's key abilities is the fact that it can be improved thanks to Revolution Overdrive Icon Revolution Overdrive, which can be acquired at Level 7. Since Raynor innately lacks mobility, this talent increases his overall combat performance tremendously, as it allows him to kite his opponents more efficiently.

3. Adrenaline Rush

Automatically activates to heal for 440 (+4% per level) when Raynor is below 30% Health.

Adrenaline Rush Icon Adrenaline Rush is a passive ability that automatically activates to gradually heal Raynor for a large amount when his health drops below 30%.

Adrenaline Rush Icon Adrenaline Rush is Raynor's main source of self-sustain. Unlike other healing abilities, it cannot be manually activated (unless you choose the Fight or Flight Icon Fight or Flight talent at Level 7, which we do not recommend), but automatically triggers as soon as Raynor's health drops below 30%. While this circumstance causes it to be kind of predictable, the healing it provides still plays an important role in keeping Raynor alive during team fights.

During the laning phase, Adrenaline Rush can help you to stay in lane, which allows you to keep soaking experience. However, keep in mind that Adrenaline Rush's cooldown of 30 seconds is exceptionally high. Opponents in lane might call for a gank if they saw Adrenaline Rush go off, so make sure to play particularly cautiously while it is still recharging.

4. Hyperion

Order the Hyperion to make a strafing run dealing 66 (+4% per level) damage a second, hitting up to 4 enemies. Also occasionally fires its Yamato Cannon on Structures for 794 (+4% per level) damage. Lasts 12 seconds.

Hyperion Icon Hyperion calls in the Hyperion to move slowly towards its target location, damaging up to 4 enemies in a wide area in front of Raynor for 12 seconds. The Hyperion also occasionally fires its Yamato Cannon against enemy Structures for a large amount of damage.

Although it moves very slowly, Hyperion Icon Hyperion can be an impactful Heroic Ability, as it damages several enemies in a very large area. The Hyperion should be used when pushing towards the enemy base or when fighting over static Map Objectives, such as the Guardians on Infernal Shrines or the Temples on Sky Temple. This forces the enemy team to either fight within its area of effect and thus take heavy damage from its lasers, or to give up a Map Objective. Either way it becomes a win-win situation. This strength, however, also becomes its weakness when fighting in open space, which simply allows the enemy to walk away from it and re-engage from another position.

The maps listed below allow you to use Hyperion very efficiently.

5. Raynor's Raiders

Summon two Stealthed Banshees that attack an enemy. Each Banshee deals 50 (+4% per level) damage a second and lasts 22 seconds. Can reactivate the Ability to retarget the Banshees.

Raynor's Raiders Icon Raynor's Raiders summons two Stealthed Banshees that attack a target enemy for a small but consistent amount of damage for 22 seconds. This Heroic Ability can be reactivated which causes the Banshees to attack a different target.

While Hyperion Icon Hyperion focuses more on pushing and damaging multiple enemies at the same time, Raynor's Raiders Icon Raynor's Raiders increases Raynor's damage against single targets. The sustained damage provided by the Banshees can cause his enemies to retreat, which then allows Raynor to either focus on a new target or chase down his original one. The Banshees' superior movement speed outpaces most Heroes, which makes them very efficient pursuers.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when using Raynor's Raiders.

  • Banshees should almost always be used on priority targets, notably enemy Assassins and Specialists, to take them down as quickly as possible.
  • Banshees move faster than Heroes which makes them formidable chasers.
  • Hovering over a different Hero with your mouse and pressing R causes the Banshees to attack the desired target. This procedure also allows you to manually re-assign a different target.
  • Just like other summonable Heroic Abilities, Banshees can be controlled even after Raynor dies.

6. Advanced Optics

Raynor's Basic Attack range is 1 further than most other ranged Heroes, and his vision radius is 1 further as well.

Advanced Optics Icon Advanced Optics passively increases Raynor's attack range by 20% and also increases his vision range by 10%.

Advanced Optics Icon Advanced Optics is a very useful talent for Raynor, since it greatly increases his attack range and vision. This allows him to engage enemies from a safer distance and also makes him a very strong bully in lane. Use your superior range to harass your opponents with Basic Attacks, especially when laning against melee Heroes. To maximise your performance while laning we suggest combining Raynor's dangerous Basic Attacks with Penetrating Round Icon Penetrating Round to give your opponents a very hard time. However, make sure not to overextend and always keep an eye on the enemies' position on the Minimap to avoid potential ganks.
