Blizzard Kills Popular Prot Paladin PvP Gear Trick Ahead of MoP Classic Launch

Blizzard has decided to shut down one of the sneakiest gearing routes for Protection Paladins in Mists of Pandaria Classic ahead of the title’s launch on July 21.

What Was the Strategy?

The strategy revolved around farming 4 pieces of the Strength-based Retribution Paladin PvP set, which would have cost 8,000 Conquest Points.

The four-piece bonus gave you 1 Holy Power every time you took damage, on an 8-second cooldown. That’s huge for Protection, since Holy Power fuels your Shield of the Righteous iconShield of the Righteous, which provides a 3-second physical damage reduction every time you use it.

This smoothed out one of the worst parts of early Prot Paladin gearing in MoP Classic: Haste starvation.

Normally, you’re stuck waiting for global cooldowns (GCDs) and praying for Holy Power. But with this set bonus, it felt like you were swimming in it.

The Stealth Nerf

As of this week, Blizzard has nerfed the 4-set bonus to no longer grant Holy Power in PvE content, meaning dungeons and raids, so it will only work in PvP.
