New World Petition Reaches Over 25,000 Signatures as Fans Fight for Its Future

Approximately one week ago, the MMO community was hit with a major announcement – New World: Aeternum is essentially coming to an end. Many players did not know how to react – some continued to play as they normally did, some quit instantly, and some took it personally and flooded social media outlets with their thoughts on the matter.

Many MMO enjoyers were caught off guard with this announcement, especially since it was just two weeks or so after New World’s recent Nighthaven expansion, and overall player numbers were on the rise.

Still in shock – many players are trying to join forces and drive more awareness on how unhappy the MMO community is with this decision, and seeing if there’s a way to shed more light on any possibility of keeping New World: Aeternum up and running (beyond just 2026).

In order to do this, a petition was created on change.org labeled, “Reinstate AGS’ New World: Aeternum Team“, and it just recently surpassed 25,000 signatures.

Now this could be a long shot, as many members of the teams no longer have their jobs and are very likely in discussions with other organizations for their next opportunity, but the overall goal of driving awareness of the impact this decision had on the community is very much still an impact that can be made.

The petition starter, Christopher Payne, stated within the petition, “I urge the decision-makers to reconsider and reinstate the New World: Aeternum team. They are essential to maintaining the vibrancy, excitement, and community that have become hallmarks of this incredible game. Without new content, the risk of losing this vibrant community looms large, which would be a significant loss to the gaming world.”

It’s no surprise that player numbers for New World: Aeternum currently are not pretty. The announcement that no new major content updates are coming to the game, along with the servers likely to be shut down sometime in 2026 (or early 2027), was basically everything many gamers needed to hear for them to step away and start looking for a new MMO to call home.

If you enjoy(ed) playing New World: Aeternum, and want to support this petition to drive more awareness around the positive impact this game had on the community, consider signing the petition here.

In the meantime, we will continue to cross our fingers that this petition ends up in front of the right decision makers and potentially save the future of New World: Aeternum.
