4 Ways to Prepare for Season 9 of New World: Aeternum

Savvvo's Avatar by Savvvo

The next season of New World: Aeternum, the “Season of the Banner” will begin on July 29, 2025. The launch of this new season will include a handful of major updates that can greatly impact the overall power of your characters.

Although these changes won’t officially go live until July 29, there’s still a few things you can do today in order to hit the ground running on day 1 of season 9. Continue reading to learn more about certain tips and tricks you can do today to start getting prepared.

Tip #1: Doubloons & Glittering Gold Keys

The launch of season 9 of New World: Aeternum will include a major revamp to the free-for-all area within Cutlass Keys. These updates include the following changes:

  • Anti-Grouping Curse: Stay too close to other players in free-for-all (FFA), and you’ll start accumulating a debuff that reduces outgoing damage and increases damage taken. Kill to reduce stacks. Die to reset.
  • Reward Improvements: Faster chest interactions, increased doubloon drops, and max gearscore on doubloon shop items were increased and the spread was narrowed (lower min gear score.

One of the most important changes is that “Rewards Improvements” portion of the update, which will introduce new, max gearscore items within the Well of Fortune in Cutlass Keys. In order to take advantage of this new opportunity, it’s worth stockpiling as many Mystic Doubloons as possible today, so that you can start spending them all in Season 9.

Additionally, it’s worth saving your weekly Glittering Gold Keys and not using them until season 9 goes live. There’s a good chance that the locked caches you unlock with these keys will have increased rewards next season, so you might as well save these keys and pick-up the extra doubloons once this update goes live!

Tip #2: Crafting Weapon Matrices

There are two new artifact weapons being released in season 9: the Crescent’s Wave Greatsword and the Yeeterson’s Hammer. Plus, there is going to be a total revamp to the Vengeance Life Staff artifact. With this in mind, players will likely want to max out these new artifacts as fast as possible, leading to a higher demand in Weapon Matrices.

If you want to prepare for season 9, you’ll want to make sure you have enough weapon matrices to upgrade these new artifact weapons, or to sell them for some easy gold in the beginning of the season. Chances are the overall price of each Weapon Matrix will reach a new high once the demand increases!

Tip #3: Grinding Seasonal XP

At the start of a new season, you lose access to the previous season’s reward track. You can still claim the rewards you may have unlocked from the previous track, but you’ll no longer be able to gain experience towards those rewards.

Keeping this in mind, you’ll want to make sure you grind out your seasonal experience as much as possible before the season ends. To be more specific, you’ll want to make sure you unlock and claim the Lich Gloves (at level 20) and the Vampire’s Vestments (at level 80). These are both useful artifacts that you may want to use down the road for a certain build.

In case you aren’t able to achieve this by the end of the season, there will be an alternative way to unlock them. We’re unsure on what that new method of unlocking each will be yet, and it may end up being a difficult process, so it’s best practice to unlock them both while you still can through the Season 8 reward track.

Tip #4: Selling “New” Craft Mods

Within the recent season 9 Developer Video, there was a mention that the newest crafting mods that were added to the game will be more accessible to players starting in season 9. For example, the Soulheart Alternator craft mod is currently priced at about 20,000 gold each on most servers.

With this information, you should try to sell these craft mods before the start of season 9. As they become more accessible, they overall demand and price for them will drop, so make sure you sell them as soon as possible before it’s too late!

We hope you enjoy these tips, and are getting ready for season 9 of New World: Aeternum. We’ll see you there!
