The State of Play stream gave us our first deep dive into 007 First Light, IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond game. And it looks like a really cool mix of Hitman’s spying with the gun-fights of Uncharted, and the stealth of Assassin’s Creed!
Who Is the New James Bond

Actor Patrick Gibson officially introduced himself as the new James Bond, joined by a cast that includes:
- Lenny James as Bond’s mentor Greenway
- Priyanka Berford as M
- Alistair McKenzie as Q
- Kira Lester as Moneypenny
- Naomi Nikai as the mysterious Ms Roth
Bond’s world is built around what is seen, and what is hidden. The showcase focused on an infiltration mission at the Kensington Gala, giving us a raw look at how espionage, stealth, and action mix in the game.
Gameplay Highlights
- Multiple approaches: You can sneak through crowds, bluff your way past guards, or go loud with a shootout.
- Spycraft systems: Eavesdrop on conversations, pickpocket keycards, or scan the environment for more vairous tactical options.
- Q Gadgets: Laser Cutter, Smoke Device, Dart Gun, hacking tools, and Bond’s signature watch that scans for opportunities.
- Stealth & combat: Non-lethal takedowns, parries, finishers, and dynamic melee fights that use the environment.
- Gunplay: Bond’s “License to Kill” moments let you use firearms when stealth fails, borrowing weapons from enemies or using gadgets in combat.
- Instinct mode: Highlights key objectives and threats.
- Driving sequences: Car chases and high-speed escapes are confirmed, and they look intense, to say the least!
The showcase made it clear! Stealth and infiltration are at the core, but Bond is not limited to one playstyle. IO is giving players freedom. If you want to slip through unnoticed, bluff and charm your way forward, or blow the place up, it is entirely up to you.
