Elden Ring: Nightreign is full of subtle mechanics, hidden interactions, and quality-of-life features that are rather easy to miss. From class tech to smart gear swaps, here are 20 useful tips the community has discovered so far:
Exploration & Map Tricks
- Churches Grant Extra Flasks
Visiting churches scattered around the map can raise your flask count from the default 3 to as many as 6-7. - Mage Towers Offer Quick Upgrades
Mage Towers are easy to access and often contain valuable magical items or buffs. They are always worth a quick detour when nearby! - Strategic Map Exploration
Start by clearing the outer areas of the map before moving inward. It helps you level up more safely and prep for tougher zones. - You Can Queue Party Members from the Map
Open the map (touchpad on PS5), tab over to Nightfarers, and you can quickly invite friends or reconnect after getting booted. - Stealth Has Real Use This Time
Enemies are slower to detect you and easier to sneak past. Perfect for scouting or setting up an ambush, especially as Duchess or Recluse. - Spirit Streams and Traversal
Launch yourself onto rooftops or hidden spots using spirit geysers. Great for reaching secrets and skipping enemy packs.
Combat, Classes & Reviving
- Nightlords Have Specific Weaknesses
Each Nightlord boss shows a weakness (like fire or holy) next to their name. Exploiting it can stun them and boost damage significantly. - Fastest Revive Weapons Are Daggers and Claws
Light weapons break revive bars faster thanks to attack speed. Bring one if you are reviving a lot in co-op. - Recluse’s FP Management
Recluse can restore FP by absorbing elemental residue. Starlight Shards are especially useful during boss fights when you need FP but cannot stop to chug. - Weapon Buffs Stack
Passive buffs apply just by equipping. Red-boxed buffs require active use– the rest are always on. - Downed Players Can Crawl Into Cover
While in Near-Death, you can slowly reposition toward teammates or behind walls. Use this to avoid being finished off early. - Rest and Level Up at Sites of Grace
Touching a Grace resets the revive gauge. This keeps future revives fast, and lets you level up before key fights (which many players forget to do). Note: Enemies can disable Sites of Grace if they stand directly on them. - Beware of Rune Loss on Death
Failing to revive someone costs them a level and all carried runes. Act fast when teammates are down. - NPC Party Members Can Trigger Revives Too
In some areas, temporary NPC allies can revive you or teammates – if they stay alive long enough. Keep an eye on them.
Gear, Builds & Hidden Tech
- Swap Gear Mid-Fight to Bypass Cooldowns
Switching out certain gear pieces or weapons can refresh active effects. Risky, but handy in long fights. - The Mentor You Pick Boosts Hidden Stats
Mentors passively enhance certain stats (like stamina regen or crit chance) on top of their skill trees. Experiment to find the right synergy. - Traversal Skills Scale with Weight
Grapples, climbs, and other mobility moves feel faster if your gear load is low. Lighter builds get more freedom in vertical areas. - Jump to Cancel Animations
Jumping at the right time can cut recovery animations short, especially useful with fast weapons or item usage.
Other Tips & Bonus Advice
- You Can Ping for Help (or Loot)
Pressing in your left stick (L3) sends out a ping that your team can see. Use it to mark loot, call for help, or signal danger. It works even without voice chat and has been a quiet MVP tool for many.

Not every boss shows their full form the first time. Some have rare conditions, like health thresholds or using specific skills, that trigger hidden second phases. Be ready for surprises!
Bonus Tip: Do Not Hoard Nightreign Keys!
Some keys reset between expeditions. If you find a door or locked chest, use them right away instead of hoarding them, especially in timed runs.
