Of all the strange things you expect in Death Stranding 2, a cameo from Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii probably was not on your bingo card. But here we are. In one of the weirdest sequences of DS2 so far, Oshii appears in-game as a pizza-making NPC… and ends up in a full-on sparring match with Sam Porter Bridges. Yes, really.
What Happens
- Oshii runs a pizza oven in a short cinematic sequence
- He throws down dough like he is in an anime cooking show
- Then it cuts to Sam, and the two end up brawling (for reasons)
It lasts about two minutes, but it is one of the most fun and surreal scenes in the game so far – and that is saying something in Death Stranding 2.
Big Personalities
Kojima has always loved putting familiar faces in strange roles (Geoff Keighley, Conan, you name it). But this one stands out, because Oshii is not just a fun cameo – he actually fits thematically.

Ghost in the Shell helped inspire some of Kojima’s earliest work, so this pizza-fight moment almost feels like a personal tribute.
Players Love It
Players who spotted it in early reviews and livestreams are saying that it is one of the most memorable moments in the game.
“Oshii making pizza and fighting Sam? This is cinema.”
Spanish outlet MeriStation even called the scene “pure emotion, pure action, and pure weirdness,” which sums it up pretty well.
So, Is This the Weirdest DS2 Moment Yet?
So far? Yes, probably. And knowing Kojima, we are just scratching the surface. If there is a pizza oven fight in the first few hours, who knows what else is coming later on?
For now, though, this might be the most Kojima thing in Death Stranding 2, and that alone makes it worth watching. You can see the funny pizza scene below:
