If you had asked Zelda fans to name one remake they wanted Nintendo to make, Ocarina of Time would probably have been near the top of the list.

Well, it is finally happening.

The final announcement of today’s Nintendo Direct was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, bringing Link’s iconic Nintendo 64 adventure to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

Nintendo did not provide an exact release date, but the short reveal trailer was enough to instantly become one of the biggest reveals of the show.

A Game That Defined a Generation

Released in 1998, Ocarina of Time was the first fully 3D Zelda game and introduced many mechanics that would become important in the series for years to come.

For a lot of players, it was also their first trip through Hyrule. Exploring Kokiri Forest, pulling the Master Sword, riding across Hyrule Field, and stepping into the Temple of Time are moments that still get brought up whenever fans discuss the series.

Nintendo previously revisited the game on Nintendo 3DS, but this is the first time the company has gone all in on a modern remake.

A New Generation for a Classic Adventure

The reveal confirmed a 2026 release window on Nintendo Switch 2, but they did not yet discuss gameplay changes, new features, or any additional content.

The trailer only lasted a few minutes, but it was enough to get longtime Zelda players hyped for a few months. With no exact release date announced yet, just 2026 as a year, we are guessing between September and December, but Nintendo has not confirmed anything.

Either way, one of the most requested remakes in Nintendo history is finally real!
