Etheria: Restart just launch, and you might be wondering if there are any free characters, and if those are even good. In most gacha games, the free units are usually not the best. However, Etheria actually gives you a few very good characters for free!
These characters will help you push through the story and early content. Let’s take a look at every free character you can get in Etheria, how to unlock them, and which ones are actually worth playing.
Starter Characters – Unlocked in the Prologue

These characters join your team automatically during the opening missions of the game.
Gray – Versatile Buffer and AoE Attacker
- How to unlock: Prologue.
- Worth it or not: Worth it, great in many PvE situations.
Gray is a strong early-game character who boosts your whole team’s CRIT Rate by 30%. He also gets to play a second time right after buffing, which allows you to follow up with a powerful AoE attack. Given that Etheria is a turn-based game, being able to play twice in a row is very valuable. His S3 skill even has a chance to lower enemy defense by 60%, which makes bosses and big groups much easier to deal with.
Sybil – Single-Target Damage Dealer
- How to unlock: Prologue.
- Worth it or not: No. You will most likely replace her as soon as you get another character.
Sybil focuses on hitting one target at a time and can boost her own Speed. She’s decent at first because you don’t have anyone else. Even the game sort of pushes you to replace her early by giving you better DPS characters.
Cachi – Buffs and Turn Meter Control
- How to unlock: Prologue.
- Worth it or not: Not really. You will use him early, but you technically should not have too much trouble getting someone who just does the same but better early enough.
Cachi helps allies go faster by boosting their ATK and instantly filling their turn meter. He also lowers cooldowns and can stun enemies or slow them down. While useful at first, stronger support units will eventually take his place.
Dorothy – Reliable Early Healer
- How to unlock: Prologue.
- Worth it or not: Great early healer. Worth it until you get a better heal.
Dorothy can heal single allies or your entire team, and she also removes debuffs. Her S2 applies Healing Over Time that turns into a shield if the target is full HP. She’s easy to use and works well for most early fights.
Guaranteed Summon Character

Lian – Strong AoE DPS
- How to unlock: Tutorial Summon.
- Worth it or not: Worthy DPS that remains useful in some endgame PvE content.
Lian is a great DPS who deals a lot of damage to multiple enemies. Her attacks scale with the number of buffs she has, so pairing her with support characters makes her even stronger. She’s useful all the way through early, mid, and even late game content.
Event Unlock – Log In and Complete Missions

Lingluo – Amazing Free Healer With Buff Utility
- How to unlock: 7-day login commission Event.
- Worth it or not: Definitely worth. She is one of the best healers of the game, so you definitely want to level her up!
Lingluo becomes available after completing a week’s worth of simple daily missions. She’s one of the best healers in the game, and she’s free! Make sure to keep checking the 7-Day Commission event tab to track your progress and don’t miss out on her. You would lose a valuable character.
Which Free Characters Should You Keep Using?
If you’re wondering where to spend your resources, here’s a quick tier-list of the early free characters:
Etheria: Restart gifts you quite good free characters, including two SSR which are still used during endgame, and is not something you often see. Between the tutorial summon, the prologue unlocks, and the 7-day login event, you’ll have access to a full team of strong, useful characters, including one of the best healers in the game.
So when you start, focus on Gray, Lian, and make sure you unlock Lingluo, they’ll carry you far into the game without needing any luck from the gacha system.
