Wolfenstein in the Works at Amazon

“The story of killing Nazis is evergreen.” That’s the official logline for a new Wolfenstein series in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

Revealed in a Variety exclusive, the series has Patrick Somerville attached as creator, writer, executive producer, and overall showrunner.

Sommerville is the creator of the shows Maniac and Station Eleven, and he’s been a fan of the Wolfenstein games since he was a kid.

In addition, Jerk Gustafsson from MachineGames (the studio developing the new Wolfenstein games), will also serve as an executive producer.

What can fans expect?

What Can We Expect?

Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but it doesn’t take a superfan to guess what the series will focus on. Nazis conducting strange, occult experiments, and B.J. Blazkowicz going Inglorious Basterds on them, will probably be a feature.

Whether the series takes after the original Castle Wolfenstein or more recent games like The New Order is a mystery, and could affect the show’s tone. Whether it will feature over-the-top violence against Nazis or more serious, dramatic moments, the show is still in early production, so fans will be waiting a while.

Amazon Courting Gamers

Wolfenstein is the latest video game property to catch Amazon’s eye. The company released the Fallout streaming show last year to mostly positive reception. In addition, they have multiple gaming projects in the works based on God of War, Mass Effect, and Warhammer: 40,000.

Last year, they also released Secret Level, an anthology series featuring animated shorts from various gaming properties. Amazon certainly has their eye on gamers as a demographic.

Let’s hope the upcoming shows are worth the wait!
