ANANTA is one of the most ambitious new projects showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2025, and multiple developer interviews from IGN-Japan and denfaminicogamer gave us new details about the game’s scope, systems, and future.

With no gacha, cinematic combat, and an evolving open world, ANANTA might actually redefine what a free-to-play RPG can be.

Here is the main information that were shared during both interviews!

Gameplay & World Design

Everything shown in the game’s trailers is playable, from fighting with street furniture to exploring dense city streets. Inspired by Jackie Chan films, ANANTA emphasizes on environmental combat. This means that you can pick up chairs, trash cans, or even cars to use as weapons.

The world is strictly urban, starting with a city the size of Manhattan and expanding into multiple Asian cities like Tokyo. You will also find cool details such as NPC smartphones, social media posts, and hidden side quests (like a prank kidnapping) that make the city feel more alive.

Just like in GTA, you have freedom to act as you want, but crimes come at a cost. Committing illegal acts lowers your reputation, making it harder to move around unnoticed.

Characters, Story, and Perspective

Unlike most free-to-play games, ANANTA completely avoids gacha. Every character is earned through the story or encounters in the world. You start with the Captain (male or female, depending on your choice), and gradually recruit allies like Taffy as the story unfolds.

Each character has their own routine and daily life in the city, and they can naturally be bumped into as you explore. Switching between them changes the perspective, giving different story angles and gameplay experiences, from police officers to delivery jobs.

Producer Ash compared the design to Marvel films, where characters pursue their own lives but come together for major story events.

Combat & Cinematic Feel

The combat system is designed to be cinematic and accessible. We will get clear hit frames, counters, and realistic reactions rather than just some flashy special effects.

The inspirations come from Hong Kong action films and comics. They want to deliver Jackie Chan-style choreography in an interactive way.

Exploration, Mini-Games, and Immersion

ANANTA wants its city to feel lived-in. Basketball courts are playable, UFO catchers are interactive, and NPCs react to your behavior. For example, they will get angry if you steal their phones, or expose you on social media for misbehaving.

On top of that, movie theaters, amusement parks, and other facilities will expand over time, making the city richer with every update as well.

Multiplayer & Monetization

ANANTA has multiplayer, but is not an MMO. Instead, it focuses on co-op with friends. You can select characters and explore together. More details about the multiplayer will be revealed closer to release!

Importantly, the game avoids gacha entirely. Monetization will revolve around cosmetics. This means outfits, furniture, vehicles, with possible future housing systems.

A season pass is under consideration, but not finalized yet.

Development, Platforms, and Release

The game is being co-developed between teams in China and Montreal, with around 700-800 staff. Built on a heavily optimized Unity engine, ANANTA will launch on PC, console, and mobile, aiming for the same quality across all platforms.

No release date is set, but the team is planning global tests soon, with Korean players getting early participation. Full multi-language support is also confirmed.

Producer Ash summarized ANANTA’s vision as “a game where you can freely live as your own character in a free and fun world.” ANANTA could be one of the most unique RPGs, and we can’t wait to test it out!
