The ARC Raiders community is once again talking about one of the game’s biggest problems – the tutorial. A recent Reddit post pointed out that many players had no idea the game even has a communication and emote wheel, a tool that lets you say things like “Need help” or “Let’s group up” without using a mic.
It is a great feature, but the game never explains it. There is no tutorial moment that makes you use it, no hint that it exists, and no visual prompt when you start playing. Most players only find out after someone online (either on Reddit, social media, or even a friend) tells them, or they stumble into it by pressing the right key in-game.
The Tutorial Is Atmospheric, But Not Helpful
Players agree that the ARC Raiders intro looks and sounds great, but it skips over some of the most important mechanics. You learn how to move, loot, and fight, but not much else. Many never realize that rolling is bound to Left Alt on PC or double-tap crouch on console. So yeah, some players had no idea you could ping loot or use the emote wheel to talk to teammates.
As one Reddit user joked, “This needs to be in the tutorial, because half of us only found out it existed after 10 hours of dying.”
It is not that the system is hidden; it is just not shown. And in a game that mixes PvE fights against ARCs with unpredictable PvP encounters, not knowing how to call for backup can make the experience quite rough.
Communication Tools Like The Emote Wheel Deserve Spotlight
ARC Raiders includes proximity voice chat, a ping system, and that handy emote wheel. You can whisper or shout preset lines to coordinate without a mic. This is especially great for solo players or anyone playing late at night. The issue is that none of this is surfaced clearly, so most players just go silent or assume others are ignoring them.
The same problem affects the team-up system. You can ask to group with nearby players, but there is no formal squad setup or shared healthbars. That means trust is rare and betrayal is common, especially during extractions. Better onboarding would help players understand how to cooperate instead of instantly shooting each other.
Players Want Better Onboarding And Tutorial Fixes
Players have been asking for a tutorial update that actually teaches key systems. Common suggestions include:
- A short mission that makes you use the emote wheel to call for help
- Prompts that explain rolling, pinging, and crafting
- Better control diagrams for PC and console
- A more reliable team-up system with less risk of betrayal
These are simple changes, but they would make a big difference for newcomers who just want to survive the first few fights without being confused by missing mechanics.
ARC Raiders has the style, atmosphere, and potential to be great, but its tutorial keeps players in the dark about important mechanics. The emote wheel, ping system, and roll mechanic are all useful features that deserve proper attention. The good news is that the community is still very positive and hopeful that the developers will polish these parts over time.
