ARC Raiders has finally released, and its launch has not come without controversy. Many players are just enjoying Embark Studios’ new extraction shooter, but a few discussions online have quickly shifted toward the game’s monetization, especially the cost of cosmetics and how the “Raider Deck” battle pass system actually works.
$20 Skins in a $40 Game?
On Reddit, several posts have gone viral highlighting that some character skins cost around $20, despite ARC Raiders itself being a $40 game (or $60 for the Deluxe Edition). Many made comparisons to Embark’s other title, The Finals, that uses a similar pricing, but that game is actually a free-to-play.
“That’s half the price of the game for a cosmetic?! Seems far too much,” one user wrote, summing up what many are feeling.
A Lot of Confusion
However, not all the information circulating is accurate. A few players clarified that the first Raider Deck (ARC’s version of a battle pass) is entirely free, and that most of the items seen inside are craftable utility gear, not pay-to-win bonuses. Future Raider Decks will also likely include both free and premium versions, much like The Finals.
Another detail that has been missed is Embark’s monetization in The Finals evolved over time, with bundle prices being lowered by 20-60% after launch. On top of that, you also often have $19.99 packs including bonus currency and full outfit sets. Players expect ARC Raiders to follow a similar path.
Still, even with these clarifications, players are divided. Some say they do not mind as long as gameplay remains fair, but others argue that a paid title should not have F2P-style pricing at all.
“In a free game it makes sense. In a $40 one? I figured it would at least be cheaper,” says one comment.
Embark has not officially addressed the backlash yet, but based on past behavior, prices and bundles may see adjustments in the coming weeks, especially if the community feedback stays this strong.
