The current state of Ashes of Creation is up in the air after a series of unfortunate events – and it’s not looking promising.
This series of events listed below started on January 31, 2026. As more information is confirmed and verified, we will update this post to ensure the community gains full visibility on the situation.
The first action that was noticed by the Ashes of Creation community was the posting of multiple LinkedIn posts from a handful of Intrepid Studios employees. These posts highlighted their experience with Intrepid Studios, and a mention that they are now actively looking for new job opportunities. Additionally, most of these individuals updated their LinkedIn profile images with the green “open to work” banner.
Included in these postings were Margaret Krohn, the previous Director of Communications for Ashes of Creation, and one of the most public-facing team members of the organization.
One of the comments on this post stated, “Terrible to hear. I hope we can get some context on what happened to this very promising project. Best wishes for you and your new quest.”, where Margaret responded by stating, “Everyone was part of a layoff. It’s awful.“
Hearing that everyone was affected by the layoff flooded the official Ashes of Creation Discord with questions, comments, and concerns.
Eventually, Steven Sharrif, Creative Director of Ashes of Creation, shared the following update via Discord.
With Steven resigning, and a majority (if not all) of the existing Ashes of Creation employees headed out the door, the future of Ashes of Creation is not looking good.
There are many, many theories and rumors on additional actions that may have led to all of this, but none have been fully verified and confirmed yet.
