Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Appears as “Resynced”

A quiet update from the European PEGI ratings board may have revealed more than just the existence of the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake. According to a newly published listing, the project appears under the name Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a title that could mean a bigger remake strategy from Ubisoft.

The listing rates the game PEGI 18 and strongly suggests the remake has already been fully evaluated by the board. This typically means the game is far enough along to be played start to finish, pointing to an official reveal in the near future. With The Game Awards 2025 just one day away, many believe that Ubisoft will reveal the first trailer during the show.

“Resynced”

The most interesting detail here is not the PEGI rating itself, but the name attached to it. By dropping the numerical “IV” and going with “Resynced,” Ubisoft seems to be moving away from the original game’s numbering altogether. That could point to a bigger plan, where future Assassin’s Creed remakes all share the same kind of branding instead of being treated as single projects.

The word “Resynced” also hints at something bigger than a simple graphic upgrade. It suggests a proper remake, bringing older Assassin’s Creed games in line with modern systems and redesigning them to fully take advantage of current-generation hardware.

A Full Remake, Not a Remaster

Based on previous reports and Ubisoft’s own comments about revisiting older Assassin’s Creed games, Black Flag Resynced will most likely be a full remake rather than a simple remaster. That likely means better visuals and animations, adjusted audio and voices, and some gameplay changes inspired by where the series has gone in more recent years.

Players are also expecting improvements to some of the game’s core systems, like combat and stealth, alongside expanded ship gameplay and better exploration. These were already some of Black Flag’s strongest elements, but they were held back by the hardware of its time, something a modern remake could finally address.

Originally released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is still seen as one of the best entries, and one of the best pirate games ever made. If the remake delivers, it will not just be a win for longtime fans, but it could also set the tone for how Ubisoft plans to bring more classic Assassin’s Creed games back.
