Not much is known about the new title other than it’s a “school life” JRPG, likely in the same vein as Persona. Here’s what we know so far:
About Okada
Kouji Okada has a career stretching back to the early days of the games industry. He started out in 1985 working on arcade games like Gridiron Fight and Tehkan World Cup. As gaming technology advanced, he co-founded at Atlas and worked on the original Shin Megami Tensei as a programmer. From there he worked on the sequels as director, before moving up to producer in 1998. The most famous games he produced during this time were Persona 2 (Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment), and Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. In 2003, he left Atlus to found studio Gaia, which produced a handful of titles until it dissolved in 2010. This new project marks Okada’s return to game development in nearly 16 years.
The studio Okada is working with, Compile Heart, is nearly twenty years old, mainly known for the Hyperdimension Neptunia and Record of Agarest War series. Aside from Okada, two other Atlus alums are attached the project. Tadashi Satomi and Tsukasa Masuko contributed to the Persona and SMT franchises as writer and composer respectively.
A cryptic teaser was released on YouTube, with Compile Heart promising more info to come on January 29th. We’ll learn more about the upcoming game then, so mark your calendars.
