Battlefield 6 Customization Will Be Realistic, Says DICE

The developers behind the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 have recently shared insights about the types of skins and customizations planned for the game. Unlike previous titles and competitors, they aim to keep their customization options more grounded.

In a recent report by DBLTAP, design director Shashank Uchil commented on the skins they intend to include in the game, contrasting them with those in Call of Duty. Uchil stated, “It has to be grounded. That is what BF3 and BF4 were—the focus was on soldiers on the ground. It’s going to be like this.”

Battlefield 6 Won’t be Getting Crossover Skins

Uchil also addressed the topic of crossover skins, saying, “I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj. Let’s keep it real, keep it grounded.” Call of Duty features a plethora of outlandish skins, including recent crossovers with shows like American Dad and unexpected characters such as Beavis and Butt-Head. Some players have expressed that games like Call of Duty lack their original grounded or consistent style, which has pushed many players away over the years.

Battlefield aims to maintain a grounded approach not only through customization and skins but also in its gameplay, ensuring everything fits within the game’s universe.

Grounded Combat & Gameplay

Further reports from Comicbook, which interviewed multiple key figures at DICE, confirmed that this grounded ideal is central to the vision for Battlefield 6. Alexia Christofi, a producer at DICE, emphasized, “What’s really important to us is that things feel grounded. We want people to express themselves and showcase cool skins, saying, ‘I look pretty cool, and I have this great weapon skin.’ However, we want it to feel authentic to the franchise; that’s the approach we’re taking.”

They also mentioned that customization impacts not only the overall look of the universe but also class identity. David Sirland, a senior producer at DICE, explained, “For example, there is a ghillie material on the Recon skins, and that material is not used on the other classes to really emphasize their differences. There are rules in place, but they are looser than ‘It’s always going to look like this.’ It needs to feel like it fits the universe. I believe one reason we’re receiving positive feedback is because it feels reminiscent of Battlefield 3 and 4 in that sense. I think that’s really important.”
