With the rebranding of Overwatch 2 back to Overwatch, Blizzard introduced five new heroes, but none have caused as much chaos as Jetpack Cat.
The flying orange tabby support has quickly become one of the most talked-about additions to the roster. Not just because of gameplay, but because players genuinely do not believe the official story.
And on top of giving free rewards, Blizzard just doubled down on the cat problem.
The Official Lore: Brigitte Built a Cat Jetpack

In the latest Overwatch animated story video titled “Project: Jetpack Katt”, narrated by Matilda Smedius (Brigitte’s voice actor), Blizzard explains the character’s origin.
According to the video, Brigitte rescues a stray cat from rocket debris at Gibraltar. Inspired by old childhood jetpack designs, she decides to build a propulsion rig. The cat, named Fika, “helps” solve engineering issues by knocking over blueprints. Brigitte designs stabilizers, tail-weight balancing, and even a joystick usable without opposable thumbs. She also adds grappling tech to keep up when Reinhardt inevitably charges ahead. Healing projectiles are even dubbed “purr-jectiles.”
Blizzard clearly wants to remind everyone that Jetpack Cat is just a normal cat equipped with advanced tech.
Players Are Not Buying It
A lot of players are very sceptical about this whole “it is just a normal cat” story. To many, Jetpack Cat must be something else, or else how is it controlling advanced technology?
Some very funny reactions include:
- Jetpack Cat is clearly a Talon agent
- This is Doomfist’s master plan
- Comparisons between the cat’s Ultimate and Doomfist’s Meteor Strike
- Theories connecting the cat to intelligent animals from Horizon Lunar Colony lore
- Suspicion that Moira knows more than she lets on due to in-game voice lines
Even if Brigitte engineered the hardware, players are basically questioning the “software.” And in this particular situation, the software is the cat.
The Cat Is Chaos

Jetpack Cat is not just a meme, she is strong. The small airborne hitbox, mobility, and ability to reposition teammates mid-air have already made her one of the most frustrating heroes in ranked.
Blizzard has reportedly even asked players to stop auto-banning the character in certain modes.
When a tiny flying support can “carry” entire fights, it is hard for players to accept that she is just a stray with a harness.
As other outlets also mentioned, this would not be the first time Overwatch lore planted seeds early. They have pointed out:
- The Horizon Lunar Colony already introduced genetically enhanced animals
- Overwatch has a history of hidden villain arcs
- The meta joke of Brigitte “revisiting old designs” feels intentionally self-aware
Blizzard, however, maintains that Jetpack Cat is exactly what she appears to be.
Just a cat. With a jetpack. But is it really?
