Gearbox just dropped a massive update for Borderlands 4 that marks the game’s first month since launch! It is full of balance changes, performance improvements, loot fixes, and even a new limited-time event!

The October 23 patch focuses on refining stability, multiplayer performance, UI, and class balance. It is all in order to improve late-game and build diversity.

You can check out the complete patch notes on the official Borderlands 4 website, but here is a quick recap of the main changes and additions!

Horrors of Kairos Event

Running from October 23 to November 6, Horrors of Kairos brings Halloween to Pandora! Players can hunt down new limited-time loot, including:

  • Murmur Legendary Tediore Assault Rifle
  • Skully Legendary Order Grenade

Both drop from world bosses during the event and will be sent to the Reward Center once obtained.
A spooky SHiFT code also rewards you with the “Gourd Your Loins” Head and “Hex Appeal” Weapon Skin:

  • 3S6BB-ZXT93-KRT3W-BT3T3-JW6TZ

Loot, Progression & Achievements

  • Respec costs massively reduced (from 5,000 to 1,500 Eridium).
  • Lost Loot Machine now prioritizes higher-quality items and behaves better in multiplayer.
  • Fixed issues with achievement, mission progression, and collectible tracking.
  • Golden Chests and SHiFT key redemption now work consistently in co-op.

Overall, loot systems got really better! It will make farming feel nicer, and drops will also feel more fair.

Vault Hunter & Gear Balance

Each class also received a few changes and adjustments aimed at keeping build variety strong and reducing bugs or overperforming setups:

  • Harlowe the Gravitar performance fixes for builds that slowed UI or Fight For Your Life timers.
  • Vex the Siren got buffs to Double Trouble and Apex Beast skills.
  • Rafa the Exo-Soldier and Amon the Forgeknight got cooldowns and damage scaling adjusted.

On the gear side, dozens of Assault Rifles, Heavy Weapons, and Class Mods were buffed:

  • ARs like Lucian’s Flank and Rowan’s Charge got +33-100% fire rate or +40-50% base damage boosts.
  • Gamma Void Heavy Weapon damage up to 450% (!).
  • Melee and Action Skill builds got a global buff across mods and gear.

UI, Audio & Accessibility

  • Legendary Loot Indicator added to radar, so no more missing that shiny purple glow.
  • Menu sorting, toggles, and “Apply Settings” prompts now behave correctly.
  • Better subtitle timing, VO balance, and fewer repeating lines in combat.
  • More accessibility, including proper controller Air Dash and session privacy changes.

Stability & Performance

Gearbox rolled out a lot of backend fixes to improve matchmaking, prevent multiplayer crashes, and fix the graphics loading. PC players using NVIDIA GPUs need to update to driver 581.57. This one addresses the multiple crash issues.

Weekly Rotations

This week’s activities include:

  • Weekly Big Encore Boss: A tougher variant with upgraded loot.
  • Weekly Wildcard Mission: Dark Subject (Vampiric, Cold Hearted, Invisible) featuring the Kickballer Legendary.
  • Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine has rotated again with new gear and new location!

So basically what you need to remember from this big patch is bigger explosions, and even more loot, business as usual for Borderlands 4!
