Borderlands 4 Rafa’s Exo-Powered Abilities Breakdown

Another new Borderlands 4 video was just revealed, and this time it is all about Rafa! From chaotic explosions, melee combat, a really cool Exo-suit, and a ton of turrets, Rafa is definitely an interesting character to play!

You can watch the video here:

The Exo-Suit

Rafa’s entire kit revolves around his high-tech Exo-suit. This was built by Tediore, who are basically the Borderlands’ gun shop. Beyond gameplay, the suit is also an important part of his overall story. It symbolizes how Rafa (and soldiers like him) are often treated as disposable by the big corporate forces. The suit looks really cool, and it is also powerful! What’s not to like!

Arc Knives

When using Arc Knives, Rafa switches to a third-person view, and he will start to dual-wield some sort of laser swords. Those are called Arc Knives. Rafa will have the capacity to chain melee attacks that mark enemies, followed by a really impressive AoE finisher called Blade Fury. The build is really more melee focused, and that’s a pretty unique gameplay compared to other characters.

Some skill tree upgrades include:

  • AoE shock damage
  • Movement speed boosts
  • Damage buffs
  • Replacing the dash with a leap, and changing the element to Corrosive damage

When Rafa uses his Arc Knives, he is fast, agile, and looks pretty cool.

Peacebreaker Cannons

Rafa is not just a melee character. He can also pop out shoulder turrets and fire at anything that moves! The Peacebreaker cannons are basically located on his back, behing his shoulders, and you just have to aim at what you want to see die. The cannons auto-fire, you don’t have anything to do (mostly).

There are multiple ways to customize those Peacebreaker Cannons. You can add things like:

  • Rockets
  • Shotguns
  • Lasers

Apophis Lance

This one is basically some sort of plasma cannon. You pull it out, shoot it at enemies, and it will blast everything in rage. It is a deployable cannon that you can manually trigger for big bursts. When using it, it slightly nerfs your gun handling, so it is really meant for very specific use, not constant spam.

Similar to the other two weapons, you have many ways to customize it:

  • Increase the number of charges
  • Buff stats like Crit Rate
  • Lower the action skill cooldowns

Grenade Builds

For those who still want to wear the Exo-suit, but don’t want to bother with turrets or knives, you have one last option with Rafa: Grenades. Basically, you can build him to play entirely around throwing grenades. Constantly. For big explosions.

You can thank one of the devs for this one, as he just loves explosions, and it shows with Rafa!

You will have multiple ways to trigger grenades:

  • Gunfire
  • Action skills
  • Certain skill tree choices
  • You can even double your grenade count with the right build.

From ninja-like melee to turret control to full-on explosive builds, Rafa’s skills are all about freedom and variety. Borderlands 4 is pushing way deeper into character customization, and Rafa looks like he is the perfect representation for this!
