The official Borderlands 4 story trailer was revealed during yesterday’s Fanfest livestream, and it looks like things are taking a darker turn in the next chapter of the series.
This time around, you are not really a Vault Hunter. Not by choice, anyway. On the planet Kairos, something, or someone, is taking control of people’s free will, and you are caught in the middle of it.
Here are some quick takeaways from the trailer:
- Players are under mind control on Kairos, no longer acting of their own free will.
- A powerful voice claims it controls your fate and identity.
- Some characters push back, insisting their minds are still their own.
- One speaker pledges loyalty to the Timekeeper, who wants to rule forever.
- Vault Hunters are being gathered again, but this time it is for something bigger.
- A new recruit joins the team and seems a bit too excited about it.
- One character calls you their savior.
- Someone shouts “This will hurt!” mid-fight, so that is promising.
- A toast is made in your honor… before everything goes sideways.
- One villain questions why you should be free if all you do is cause destruction.
- A strike team prepares to hit the enemy fortress and get revenge.
It is definitely a darker setup than usual, and the Timekeeper seems like a huge step up from the usual ‘corporate psychos’.
