After previously announcing that the Call of Duty franchise was finally breaking the yearly release cycle, Activision is back with another announcement, and this one looks promising. The next entry in the series will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
The Return of COD
Today, the developers dropped the initial reveal trailer and some juicy details that many classic COD fans will be excited to hear.
Initially, impressions of the campaign and its setting look vastly better than the previous game, with the return of a more grounded, realistic setting. But despite not dropping a trailer about the multiplayer yet, we already know some details. Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer will have:
- Red dots on the mini map
- Map voting
- Updated movement – new mantle system, ledge hang, & slide canceling
- Theater mode
- No bloom
- 12 6v6 maps, plus Gunfight & Big War
- Classic Prestige & Classic Perk system
- Operator & streaks per loadout
Infinity Ward said matchmaking will “not revert back to pre-Black Ops 7.” Thus, we can expect something similar to BO7’s Open Matchmaking playlist. They want to be more transparent about it this time, so hopefully, they will communicate better with the fanbase.
When Does Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Release?

Surprisingly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will drop in four months, on October 22. So it won’t be too long a wait for COD fans to get their hands on it. As for the state of Warzone, at the time of writing, there are few to no details on how the popular mode will move forward.
There’s also the question of whether Battlefield 6 will continue to keep up with COD after this new release. Especially since the release of BF6, the old fires between the communities have been rekindled.
But what do you think? Are these changes enough to make you finally hype for Modern Warfare 4, or will the cycle continue to loop?
