CDPR just added 52 new developers to their workforce

While layoffs seem commonplace across the gaming industry, one company is thankfully bucking the trend. CD Projekt Red recently published a Q3 earnings report, and unlike many studios this year, their headcount has gone up. Since July, CDPR has added 52 developers to its workforce, with the total headcount now 851.

Who’s Working on What?

The big titles in the works at CDPR are The Witcher 4 and a so-far unnamed Cyberpunk sequel. With anticipation growing for The Witcher since its late 2024 debut trailer, the game has the majority of devs on the project at 447. While no release date is set for the Ciri-led sequel, some speculate a launch window in 2027. Project Sirius, a spinoff game set in the Witcher Universe, is also in development with 56 employees assigned.

While it may not arrive until at least 2030, Cyberpunk is of particular focus for CDPR. Currently, 135 developers are working on the sequel, whose premise is “Chicago gone wrong.” But within the Q3 report, CDPR states its intent to scale up the size of the team to over 300. While its offices in Vancouver and Warsaw are contributing the most to the project, Boston is the location the publisher wants to add the most employees to. The announcement comes in the wake of 2077 selling 35 million copies worldwide, split between the normal and ultimate edition bundles.

Beyond The Witcher and Cyberpunk, CDPR has one more project of note in development. Hadar has 29 developers assigned, though very little is known about the game aside that it is an original IP. Beyond that, the company also added more headcount to shared services, which include QA, data, motion capture, and more. Overall, the company’s headcount grew by 6 percent in three months, a bright spot in an industry clouded by layoffs.
