CDKeys Is Now Loaded – But Gamers Aren’t Happy With the Change

The popular alternative online retailer CDKeys, which sells digital keys for all gaming platforms, has just rebranded to ‘Loaded.’ While it’s common to see companies rebrand or change their logo these days, when it comes to the new name, Loaded, fans aren’t in support of this sudden change.

Why Did CDKeys Rebrand?

Fans have been asking why CDKeys has rebranded after over 10 years of being on the market. In a recent blog post about the rebrand, the company stated that:

“After more than 10 years of selling digital game codes using a name that made sense when games were discs in a box, we’ve decided it’s finally time to move on – we are rebranding… Much like the floppy disk, DVDs, and the dial-up tone, CDs are a thing of the past. The term belongs to the era of the Spice Girls and Limp Bizkit. And as a result, CDKeys sounded dry and dated.”

The company also states that its name doesn’t fit with where the industry is heading, and they want to stand out. However, what’s most confusing is that they also state that the name “causes confusion”.

“Some people don’t distinguish between CDKeys the company and “CD keys” the product, which can lead to us being mistaken for rival stores and marketplaces…It’s 2025, and we want something bolder, brighter, better.”

A Change for the Worst?

The idea behind the rebrand doesn’t add up, claiming that the name and the idea were stuck in the 90s, but having the new name Loaded…doesn’t sound better. Fans have already begun to discuss the rebrand, and the majority are in favor that this wasn’t the right move.

One user commented: “If anything, it feels somewhat negative, loaded makes it sound like it’s rigged, which isn’t exactly great for a company that already operates in a sort of grey area”.

The company also commented on why it chose the new name, Loaded, by stating:

“Loaded describes our stock of more than 15,000 titles. It describes how our store is stacked with deals to make your wallet happy. It describes the speed of how quickly we deliver, and it describes how we’re always ready to play”.
