Chrono Odyssey – Starter Tips, Mounts, & How to Progress

Jaym0's Avatar by Jaym0

The Chrono Odyssey beta is live, and while it encourages open exploration, it can also be a bit overwhelming for new players trying to find what to do and where you’re supposed to go. If you’re wondering where to start, how to unlock teleportation, when to fight bosses, or how to gear up efficiently, we’ve got just the thing for you: a small beginner-friendly guide that breaks down some tips and tricks so you can have a good start!

Main Things to Focus On Early

  • Follow the MSQ (Main Story Quest): It’s your primary path through the game. It unlocks key systems, areas, and gear. Don’t wander too far off-track until you’ve progressed a bit.
  • Use Eyes of Insight and Bound Stones: These are important for unlocking the map and teleporting around. Seek them out early to avoid wasting time running in circles.
  • Get Your First Gear Set Going: You will want to start gathering materials (ore, wood, linen, leather) to craft a full green-quality set. This makes a massive difference in both survivability and speed.
  • Chronogates Are Core Content: These instanced areas work like dungeons, with bosses that gate your story progress. The first one can be quite hard if you go in too early. Give it a try, but don’t feel bad about coming back later when you’re stronger.

How to Unlock Your First Mount

One early milestone players won’t want to miss is getting their first mount. Not only does it make travel way smoother, but unlocking it also introduces some fun mechanics like sneaking up on a wild horse to tame it.

We’ve got a full video walkthrough from our writer Savvo that shows how to:

  • Find the NPC with the horse quest
  • Locate and tame the white horse (yes, it runs!)
  • Claim your mount token and summon your horse
  • Customize your ride with skins, like the sleek all-black one for 100,000 gold

Quick Tips to Hit Level 15 Efficiently

  • Track down and complete Bounties. These daily quests give you gear materials and currency you can spend at vendors for key upgrades.
  • Check in at the inn (teleport point with 10-minute cooldown).
  • Visit the bounty board outside the inn and pick up your first bounty: Ravenous Bog.
  • Buy tools from merchants: they will basic, but it allows you to start gathering logs, stones, etc.
  • MSQ will also guide you to craft your first weapon.
  • First Chronogate boss is hard at level 3, an optional but rewarding to attempt since it gives you access to the Citadel, where you upgrade gear.
  • Do your Chronogates 2, 3, and 4 at higher levels for more efficiency.
  • After the first Chronogate, follow the yellow aura to the next Bound Stone and visit Ethel Drea and then Melody to complete key quest chains.
  • Pick up the quest from the “Anyone there, please help” NPC near the Bound Stone.
  • Complete as many Bounties as possible, they reward with a lot of gold and XP.
  • Solo Trials are high-reward, high-risk. You only get a few keys, so don’t waste them. These trials give excellent XP and dungeon gear, but you need to play smart.
  • Mount up and gather! Life skills like mining and skinning feed directly into crafting your gear. Leather is especially rare, so consider buying it with bounty currency.
  • Level 15 is the soft cap of the beta. Most systems open up fully by then, including more Chronogates, world bosses, and late-game gear grind.

Chrono Odyssey can be a bit blurry at the start, but with the right approach, you can gear up, travel faster, and start content without the early-game headaches.
